2.35 Lakh houses approved under PMAY-Urban 2.0 during 3rd meeting of CSMC
Total number of sanctioned houses under PMAY-U 2.0 stands at 7.10 Lakh
The Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) in its third meeting held on 18 June 2025 has approved construction of 2.35 lakh houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0). the meeting was held under the chairmanship of Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
The total houses approved are 2,34,864 in nine States namely, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
PMAY-U 2.0 is being implemented through four verticals Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), Affordable Rental Housing (ARH) and Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS). The houses approved in the CSMC meeting are under BLC and AHP verticals of the Scheme. So far, the total number of houses sanctioned under PMAY-U 2.0 is 7,09,979.
During the meeting, Secretary, MoHUA directed the larger States to prepare affordable housing policy and bring the proposals under AHP vertical of PMAY-U 2.0. States/UTs may study the affordable housing policy of the State of Maharashtra and adapt it according to their local requirements. States/UTs were also advised to identify and attach beneficiaries under the AHP vertical at initial phase of approval to avoid unoccupancy issues at a later stage.
Among the houses approved today under PMAY-U 2.0, more than 1.25 lakh houses have been sanctioned for the women alone, including single women and widows, ensuring empowerment of women. The scheme also promotes inclusiveness and social equity among different underprivileged groups with 42,400 houses allotted in name of for SC beneficiaries, 17,574 houses for ST beneficiaries and 1,13,414 for the OBC.
Under PMAY-U 2.0, 1 crore families will be provided financial assistance to construct or purchase a pucca house in urban areas. The Scheme focusses on upliftment of poor and middle-class families by giving them secured houses to focus on the betterment of their lives. Individuals/families, who do not own a pucca house anywhere in the country, are eligible to purchase or construct a house under PMAY-U 2.0. Central Assistance of up to Rs 2.50 lakh per housing unit is provided.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban (PMAY-U), launched in June 2015, was revamped and launched as PMAY-U 2.0. Under PMAY-U, more than 93.19 Lakh houses have already been constructed and delivered to beneficiaries. With launch of PMAY-U 2.0, additional 1 crore EWS/LIG/MIG families of urban India will be provided pucca houses.

As BMC polls near, BJP again seeks rehab for first-floor slumdwellers in Mumbai
Mumbai: BJP has again started lobbying to make slumdwellers living on the first floor of hutments eligible for free or affordable housing. Officials said the proposal will soon be sent to the state cabinet for approval. If cleared, said political observers, it will be seen as an attempt by BJP to woo voters ahead of BMC polls. In Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) schemes, only families living on the ground floor of slums are eligible for free housing or under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).by paying Rs 2.5 lakh. Those living on the first floor are not eligible even if they are living there from before 2000. Following former BJP corporator Vinod Mishra's demand for rehab of first-floor slumdwellers, Mumbai Suburban guardian minister Ashish Shelar on Thursday held a review meeting and asked officials to submit a proposal before the cabinet. "The meeting was positive," Shelar told TOI. "There are many legal chawls in declared slum areas that are ground-plus one or two structures. These first- or second-floor residents will be made eligible in SRA schemes. As far as other slums are concerned, the first-floor structures will be surveyed and will be made eligible for PMAY, as per rules." In 2023, a govt resolution (GR) was issued fixing the cost for all such post-2000 beneficiaries at Rs 2.5 lakh (estimated construction cost). "Under the slum protection policy, if a structure came up between 2001 and 2011 and if the resident is able to produce documents to show that the hut existed anytime during this period, she/he will be eligible for a rehab flat on the payment of Rs 2.5 lakh. If a decision is taken, then this same format will be applicable for those living on the first floor," said a senior official. Pointing out that Housing for All is the PM's dream and the Devendra Fadanvis-led Mahayuti govt has been positive about this initiative, Mishra said: "Officials said the file was with the finance department and will be soon placed before the state cabinet. Once that is done, a GR will be issued." In his letter to Shelar, Mishra stated: "We had drawn attention to this issue in 2023 too. The SRA CEO had submitted a proposal to the housing to include the ineligible residents of the first floor in slum rehab schemes. The CM also took a positive the legislative assembly. The housing department conducted a thorough verification of relevant documents was completed. It was concluded that there is no the final approval and GR are still pending. If this decision is taken, it will strengthen state govt's role."

55,000km of rural roads built in Bihar in 10 years, says PM
Patna: Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on Friday said around 55,000km of rural roads have been constructed in Bihar over the last 10 years. Addressing a public rally at Jasoli in Siwan, where he launched development projects worth over Rs 9,000 crore, Modi greeted the crowd in Bhojpuri and highlighted the state's infrastructural progress under his govt. "Despite overnight rain, a large number of people came to bless me. I promise a new beginning in Bihar," he said. The PM laid the foundation stone for a 500MW-hour battery energy storage system project, aimed at strengthening the state's power infrastructure and supporting renewable energy. The Centre has approved Rs 135 crore as viability gap funding, calculated at Rs 27 lakh per MWh or 30% of the capital cost, whichever is lower. Batteries ranging from 5MW to 20MW will be installed at substations in Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Bettiah, Bhagalpur, Sitamarhi, Fatuha, Mushahari, Jamui, Kishanganj and Siwan. He also flagged off the Patliputra Junction-Gorakhpur Vande Bharat Express and the first consignment of diesel locomotives manufactured at the Marhaura plant in Saran, which is being exported to the Republic of Guinea. "They used to call Saran backward, but now engines made here are being sent to Africa. Bihar will be hailed in Africa too," he said, taking a dig at the opposition RJD-Congress alliance. "Three crore more houses will be built. I will not sleep peacefully. I will keep working day and night because you are my family. All our schemes prioritise the poor," he said. "What pleases me most is that many of these houses are registered in the names of women who never had property before," the PM added. Over the past few years, tap water has reached more than 12 crore households across the country, including 4.5 lakh families in Siwan, he said, adding that pipelines and STPs have now been approved for dozens of additional cities in Bihar. Goods like makhana, fruits and vegetables from Bihar will also reach international markets, he said.

PM Modi launches projects worth ₹5,200 crore in poll-bound Bihar
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday unveiled a slew of development projects worth over ₹ 5,200 crore in Bihar's Siwan, reaffirming the Centre's commitment to transform the state into a prosperous and forward-looking region. The announcement comes ahead of the November assembly elections and is being seen as a strategic move to appeal to voters through large-scale infrastructure and welfare initiatives. The prime minister emphasized the projects would not only accelerate infrastructure growth but also improve the quality of life for residents. The major initiatives included the new Vaishali-Deoria railway line, constructed at a cost of over ₹ 400 crore, and a new train service on the route. He also flagged off the Vande Bharat Express between Patliputra and Gorakhpur, which will operate via Muzaffarpur and Bettiah, improving rail connectivity in northern Bihar. In the housing sector, Modi released the first instalment to over 53,600 beneficiaries of the PM Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) and handed over keys to newly built houses to mark the 'Grih Pravesh' of over 6,600 families. 'More than 5.7 million pucca homes have been built in Bihar under this scheme,' he said, noting that many are registered in the names of women, which he called a symbol of social progress. He cited the World Bank data that 250 million Indians have come out of poverty in the last decade and claimed that nearly 40 million people in Bihar have exited poverty in the same period. He praised Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar's governance, saying that the state's transformation is a result of a coordinated effort. 'This is not just about statistics. These are lives changed,' he said.
