Sebi fines IAGF, trustee and managers ₹29 lakh for AIF rule breaches
Capital markets regulator Sebi has imposed penalties totalling Rs 29 lakh on six entities, including India Asset Growth Fund, its manager Essel Finance Advisors and Managers, and trustee Vistra ITCL (India) for multiple violations of AIF rules. The regulator levied a fine of Rs 11 lakh on IAGF, Rs 10 lakh on Arpan Sarkar and Jaykishan Kikani (jointly and severally), Rs 6 lakh on Vistra ITCL (India), and Rs 2 lakh on Essel Finance Advisors and Managers (EFAM), its Chief Executive Officer Vishnu Prakash Rathore (jointly and severally). The regulator, in a 39-page order, found the entities guilty of serious lapses in regulatory compliance during the inspection period from April 2021 to March 2022, Sebi said in the order on Friday. The markets watchdog observed that India Asset Growth Fund (IAGF) failed to disclose disciplinary actions and litigation history of its sponsor, manager, trustee, and key officials in its placement memorandum (PPM), as mandated under the norms. Later, the fund submitted a revised PPM containing such disclosures during a change of control application, which was neither approved nor circulated to investors, resulting in a breach of the disclosure framework of the code of conduct of the alternative investment fund (AIF) regulations. Sebi also pulled up the fund for providing valuations based on underlying assets instead of the securities it held, as well as for delayed registration with the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU-IND), non-disclosure of the investor charter and distribution waterfall, and a 10-day delay in filing its PPM audit report. The regulator found that the fund took over a month to respond to an investor grievance, breaching the 30-day deadline. It noted that although the fund eventually completed the winding-up process and distributed proceeds to all investors by January 2024, the regulatory breaches were material. The regulator concluded that the violations had the potential to mislead investors, and disrupt regulatory oversight of AIFs. Sebi highlighted that EFAM being manager of IAGF is responsible for such non-compliances. It noted that Rathore, Sarkar and Kikani were the key managerial personnel who failed to abide by the code of conduct as per the rules. Therefore, the allegations against them stand established.

Dalits have been truly empowered under NDA rule, says BJP
The BJP on Sunday asserted that Dalits were truly empowered under the NDA Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and accused the Congress party of using the name of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar only for political gains, while ignoring his vision and disrespecting his ideals. Addressing the media after the State Executive meeting of the BJP SC Morcha at the party office here, MP and SC Morcha national general secretary Bhola Singh said its activists across the country had been actively taking the NDA Government's welfare initiatives to the grassroots. Despite chanting 'Garibi Hatao', the Congress party failed to eradicate poverty, or uplift the poor, Mr. Singh alleged. 'From Nehru to Rajiv Gandhi, no Congress leader truly worked for the poor,' he said. Lauding Mr. Modi's leadership for launching numerous welfare schemes and significantly expanding healthcare infrastructure, he said, 'In the last 11 years, the number of medical colleges has grown substantially, benefitting the underprivileged.' The 'AmritKaal' that Mr. Modi had ushered in saw women empowerment and SC representation in governance, he claimed. 'It is under Mr. Modi's rule that Dalits have been given power. They have been made Governors, Deputy Chief Ministers, and Union Cabinet Ministers,' Mr. Singh said. He also recalled Mr. Modi's tribute to Dr. Ambedkar through development of the 'Panch Teerth' — the five sites marking the birth, education, and contributions of the late leader. Referring to Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Singh said the State was benefitting from the 'double-engine sarkar'. Dalit Sammelans State BJP president and Rajamahendravaram MP D. Purandeswari said the party planned to organise 'Dalit Sammelans' across Dalit colonies to create awareness about the party's welfare initiatives and counter misinformation. 'The BJP is the only party that has truly honored Dr. Ambedkar,' she said, recalling Mr. Modi's visit to Dr. Ambedkar's London residence and the government's development of Panch Teerth. Condemning the Congress party for using Dr. Ambedkar's name for political gains, she questioned, 'Can the Congress explain what it has truly done for Ambedkar?' 'Malicious propaganda' Mr. Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047 envisaged inclusive development, benefiting farmers, women, and youth, she said. Rejecting the claims of opposition parties that the BJP was anti-Dalit, she pointed to the expansion of welfare programmes, representation in top offices, and SC-focused policies. 'Despite malicious propaganda, people trust Mr. Modi's leadership,' she asserted. Defending the government's constitutional amendments as pro-people, she denounced the Congress for historically disrespecting Dr. Ambedkar and his ideals. 'Only the BJP has respected and implemented Dr. Ambedkar's vision,' she claimed. Earlier, the executive meeting decided to pay tributes to Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on June 23 (observed by the party as Balidan Diwas) and undertake a special plantation drive to mark the imposition of Emergency, encouraging citizens to plant a sapling in their mother's name. Ms. Purandeswari also expressed delight that Andhra Pradesh secured two Guinness records on International Day of Yoga, and described it as a proud moment for the State. The meeting was chaired by SC Morcha State president Gudise Devanand. Ms. Purandeswari, SC Morcha national secretaries S. Kumar and P.S. Ashok, BJP State general secretaries B. Sivannarayana and P. Nagabhushanam, and former MLA D. Sambayya were among others who participated.

T S Singh Deo questions Amit Shah over US travel advisory on women's safety in Chhattisgarh
RAIPUR: Former Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister and senior Congress leader T S Singh Deo on Sunday has sparked a political firestorm, questioning Union Home Minister Amit Shah on a recent US travel advisory, which warns American citizens, particularly women, against traveling alone in India, with a specific caution against visiting Naxal-affected regions like Chhattisgarh. Taking to X, T S Singh Deo cited the advisory and asked, 'The US govt has clearly stated that women should not travel alone in India, especially in Chhattisgarh. Why? Because rape, violence, and terrorism are out of control.' Calling it a serious global embarrassment for India, he said the advisory is an indictment of the law-and-order situation under both the Modi govt at the Centre and the BJP-led state govt in Chhattisgarh. ''Beti Bachao' has been reduced to just a slogan and posters,' Singh Deo wrote. 'This is a collective failure of both govts that has now tarnished the nation's image on the international stage.' He further challenged Home Minister Amit Shah, who was in Raipur for official engagements, including laying the foundation of forensic institutes, to go beyond speeches and conduct a serious review of internal security and women's safety, areas that fall directly under his ministerial responsibility. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo 'When the Home Minister is here in Chhattisgarh, he must address why such alarming advisories are being issued about our state,' Singh Deo added. Singh Deo didn't stop at the advisory alone. He stepped up attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's global leadership claims, calling them 'hollow,' and alleged that even 'Modiji's closest allies are now exposing the truth behind the façade of the so-called 'Amrit Kaal'.' 'If urgent reforms are not brought in, India under Modi's 'New India' slogans will continue to be met only with warnings and humiliation on the global stage,' he warned. What Does the US Advisory Say? The US Department of State's travel advisory specifically cautions its citizens—especially women—against traveling alone in India, citing rising incidents of rape and sexual violence, particularly in tourist hotspots, transit centers, markets, and shopping malls. The advisory further warns against travel to Naxal-affected regions including Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, and eastern Maharashtra, due to the ongoing Maoist insurgency. It also discourages visits to Manipur, citing violent unrest and high crime rates. The US government emphasized that its ability to provide emergency assistance in rural and remote areas is limited, further underscoring the risks for solo travellers, especially women.
