Letter: President not living up to campaign promises
During his 2024 campaign for the presidency, Donald Trump made numerous promises. Secure the border, end the Ukraine/Russia war (remember that one?), and chief among them, lower grocery prices. 'On day one,' he pledged. Oh, and tariffs.
Trump duped voters into believing that the economy was bad, even though America's economy was the envy of the world as it rebounded better than other countries worldwide post-COVID 19. Still, he convinced people that they'd be better off under a second Trump term. He admitted that grocery prices helped him win the election.
Now, his out-of-control tariff policies are threatening to tank the same American economy that he vowed to make better. And there is the potential gutting of the Department of Veterans Affairs, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security and other federal agencies and programs; not to mention the lawlessness, the blatant disregard of the Constitution, defying federal court orders and a zeal to enact a massive tax break for his billionaire buddies.
Voters elected Trump to tackle grocery prices. He knew it would be a heavy lift but campaigned on it anyway. Economists estimate household costs could increase substantially with the Trump tariff insanity.
Regarding those who voted for this nonsense, it makes you wonder: Are any of them experiencing buyer's remorse yet?

The protest featured several speakers and closed the block around the federal building at Seventh and Mission streets, with many protesters chanting, 'Free, free Palestine.' Bay Area protests against Israel's war with Hamas have cooled in recent months, though activists have found new energy since Trump retook office in January. Last Saturday's No Kings Day protests drew tens of thousands of people to events in dozens of Bay Area cities decrying Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids nationwide. Weeks earlier, demonstrations against Tesla CEO Elon Musk drew huge crowds to the vehicle's showrooms across the Bay Area condemning the onetime Trump ally, whose relationship with the president has cooled in recent weeks. 'At home, the war continues through ICE raids, family separations, and repression of migrants — all part of the same violent system,' the organizers said. 'We reject this imperialist war machine and stand with all people resisting Zionism and U.S. domination.'
