Sameera Reddy once revealed Vijay Mallya did her kanyadaan and opens up about her love story with husband Akshai Varde.
Vijay Mallya is no stranger to headlines—be it for his flamboyant lifestyle, legal controversies, or his past connection with the IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore. But amid all the buzz around RCB's recent IPL win, an unexpected story from his personal life has caught public attention: his special role in actress Sameera Reddy's wedding.
In a 2014 interview with DNA, Sameera revealed that it was Vijay Mallya who performed the kanyadaan at her wedding. 'Only Vijay Mallya, who is related from my mother's side, gave me away to the groom. That apart, there were only friends and family," she had shared. Though not a direct blood relative, Mallya, connected through her maternal side, was the one who walked her down to the mandap in a touching gesture that many fans hadn't heard about before.
The wedding itself was a low-key affair, attended only by close friends and family. But before the big day, Sameera's love story with now-husband Akshai Varde had its own twist of fate—and it didn't start off as perfectly as one might expect.
Speaking to the Free Press Journal, Sameera once described how her relationship with Akshai began during a promotional event for her film Tezz. As part of the campaign, she had to ride a motorcycle, and that's when she met him—he owned the company involved with the event.
'It was my lucky day because the owner of the company Akshai Varde, came too. It was love at first sight for me. I was besotted and I almost dropped the bike while riding it. He seemed to be more worried about the bike than me. Funny that he didn't even consider dating me or look at me in that way. I had to make all the first moves and yes I asked him for his number first!" she had said.
That bold move led to a real-life romance, and the two eventually tied the knot.

Beyond Father's Day: Prega News ad about expectant dads continues to resonate

Father's Day is long gone, but some campaigns to mark the moment refuse to fade with the date. This year, Prega News—a brand synonymous with pregnancy tests—quietly shifted the spotlight onto a subject that's rarely addressed in advertising: the invisible, everyday role of expectant fathers. Released around 15 June, the film features stand-up comic Aashish Solanki trying on a pregnancy empathy belly. It begins with humour—he struggles to sit, bend, or sleep comfortably. His wife watches, amused. But soon, the mood pivots. She's joined by friends, and what follows isn't mockery but acknowledgement—not of his imitation, but of his lived efforts. Also read: More noise, less nudge: IPL ads fail to stand out The film subtly unpacks the small but significant things men do during pregnancy that rarely find a place in narratives. From managing finances and running errands to simply being emotionally available—these aren't dramatic gestures, but they are acts of partnership. This campaign is a marked shift in Prega News's storytelling. Traditionally, pregnancy ads have focused on the mother—rightly so—but this one gently widens the lens. The message is clear: fatherhood doesn't begin in the delivery room. It begins from the moment of those two pink lines. What makes the ad work is its simplicity. There's no soaring music or overwrought monologue. It's observational, almost documentary-like. The camera lingers just long enough for viewers to vicariously recognize themselves—or people they know—in these everyday scenarios. The campaign is backed by compelling data: 95% of Indian fathers today believe parenting is a shared responsibility, and 94% say they actively help with household chores. But the emotional impact goes beyond statistics. It validates a quiet truth of modern Indian parenting—that men, too, are deeply involved, even if their contributions often go unseen or unspoken. Recognition can be subtle. The brand, in doing so, transitions from being mother-centric to embracing a more inclusive, co-parenting narrative. The campaign resonated strongly online, striking a chord with both men and women, many of whom called it 'honest" and 'long overdue." And in a year filled with flashy tributes and branded sentimentality, this ad stands out simply because it feels true. Also read: Mint Quick Edit | Ads on WhatsApp: What's up, Meta? Even a week later, it stays with you. Because some roles are not invisible—they're just not always acknowledged.

"In Middle Of...": Rohit Sharma Narrates Tale Of His Romantic Proposal To Wife Ritika Sajdeh

India ODI captain Rohit Sharma opened up on his romantic marriage proposal to wife Ritika Sajdeh. Rohit announced his Test retirement last month and is currently not part of the Indian team for the ongoing Test series against England. He was last seen in action during the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) season. During an interaction with former India spinner Harbhajan Singh and his wife Geeta Basra, Rohit narrated the tale of how he orchestrated a surprise proposal by taking Ritika to his childhood cricket ground. Rohit also revealed that he took Ritika to the ground under the pretense of having ice cream. "My proposal was quite romantic. I took her to the place where I started playing cricket. We were here only (somewhere along Marine Drive apparently). She had brought food from home. We ate it. So, I was just sitting. Then I told her let's go out to eat ice cream, I'm bored. Then we took the car out, we left. We left from Marine Drive, crossed Haji Ali, Worli. So, she asked where is the ice cream shop? She does not know anything after Bandra. I told her there's a good one in Borivali, where I live. You've never come, so let me show you," revealed Rohit. Rohit recalled that he got down on one knee to propose Ritika in the middle of ground, a moment which was beautifully captured by his friends. "It was a ground and it was pitch dark and she didn't realise it was a ground. Then I had already told my friend to set up something there at the ground and just be there to capture the moment. We parked the car. Then I went on my knees, in the middle of the pitch. Then, I proposed to her," he added. Rohit's retirement from Test cricket came days before former India Virat Kohli also made the shock announcement that he won't be playing in the whites again for India either. Both Rohit and Kohli had also retired from T20Is last year, following India's win over South Africa in the T20 World Cup final.
