"Where is the accountability": Mahua Moitra reiterates TMC's five questions from Centre related to Pahalgam attack
New Delhi [India], June 17 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra on Tuesday reiterated the five questions raised by her party from the Union Government over the Pahalgam terror attack.
Criticising the Centre, Mahua Moitra asked for accountability on how the terrorists infiltrate such a high-security zone of Jammu and Kashmir. She stated that it has been more than two months since the attack, but still, there is no clue regarding the identity of the terrorists.
'It has been two months since the dastardly attacks on 26 innocent civilians in Pahalgam. Who were these terrorists, and how did they manage to infiltrate this high-security zone and kill 26 civilians? Where is the accountability? How did a massive breach of security take place in what is arguably the most secure part of India, definitely the one with the highest security personnel to civilians in any part of India? Where is the accountability?' Mahua Moitra said in a self-made video.
In her second question, Mahua Moitra asked the government why the Intelligence Bureau chief was given an extension a month after the Pahalgam attack. The TMC MP asked the government whether they are rewarding the ones who should be held accountable for the security breach in Pahalgam.
'Second question, if there was such a breach of intelligence, which there was because we still don't know how this happened, where was the chief of IB (Intelligence Bureau) given an extension. He was given an extension a month after the attacks happened. Where is the accountability, are we now rewarding the powers responsible?', Moitra said in her self-made video.
Asking about the identity of the terrorist and where they came from, the TMC MP said that the Centre have no answers related to these questions.
'The third, where are these terrorists? No one seems to be asking these questions. Who were they? Do we know their names? Were they across the border or homegrown terrorists? Are they dead or alive? Are we looking for them? There are no answers after 56 days after the attacks', the TMC MP said.
Questioning the role of US President Donald Trump and PM Narendra Modi's silence over the cessation of hostilities agreement between India and Pakistan, Mahua Moitra asked how a president of a 'third' country, 'tom tomming' in the whole world, that he brokered a 'ceasefire' between India and Pakistan.
She said that India is a nation of 140 crore proud Indians, and the armed forces went into Pakistan to teach them a 'lesson' following the Pahalgam attack.
'The fourth question, which is surprising, you have a president of a third country, President of the United States Donald Trump, claiming that he brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. We are a nation of 140 crore proud Indians. We went into Pakistan to teach them a lesson on what happened in Pahalgam. How does a third party come in and broker a ceasefire? Every single political party came out of their lines and supported the government and said Whatever you are going to do, we are behind you, behind the armed forces', Mahua Moitra added.
Raising questions on the cessation of hostilities agreement between India and Pakistan, Mahua Moitra asked PM Modi why the 'ceasefire' happened and who wanted it.
'Despite a mandate like that, how does the Prime Minister stay quiet when the President of the United States claims to the whole world that he has brokered a ceasefire. Who wanted this ceasefire, why did this happen, why we have silence on it?', the TMC MP asserted.
Mahua Moitra mentioned that MPs went to 33 different countries in the global outreach program, but in the end, the IMF and World Bank gave financial aid to Pakistan. She mentioned that the Union Government has also refused a special session of the Parliament. The TMC MP stated that the government has maintained silence on every single question, due to which the AITC is asking for its answers.
'The fifth thing, today we have an outreach, delegations of MPs and again every single party supported the government on this. We went out and reached out to over 33 countries with the delegation of MPs, the external affairs minister talking to everybody. What has happened at the end of that, the IMF and World Bank come out and give aid to Pakistan to the tune of 1 billion and 40 billion', Mahua Moitra said.
'How many people came out to express their support for India? how many. Also, Pakistan, which is like a joke, is vice-chairing a Security Council committee on countering terrorism. Is this a cruel joke? Where are the answers? We have kept quiet because we didn't want to politicise anything. But you have refused to give us a special session of Parliament, which every single Opposition member was demanding. But the Government has refused to do that. In the face of that, we have had complete silence from the Government. So it is high time we needed some answers and accountability. So the AITC is asking for them,' she added. (ANI)

American B-2 stealth bombers head to Guam: Will US use GBU-57 on Iran's nuclear sites before Trump's announcement?
The United States has deployed B-2 Spirit stealth bombers from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri to a strategic airbase in Guam, according to a Jerusalem Post report. The deployment came amid escalating tensions in the Middle East following recent Israeli airstrikes on Iran. The move has also raised concerns about a potential US involvement in Iran, as President Donald Trump will soon announce his decision regarding the Iran-Israel conflict. Donald Trump would make his decision regarding a possible strike on Iran in two weeks, White House said. The deployment came days after US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth declared that the US military was ready to carry out any decision President Donald Trump makes regarding Iran. President Trump recently stated that Iran had missed its opportunity to negotiate before Israeli strikes began. He reportedly has issued a two-week deadline to Tehran to reach a deal. Also Read: Israel-Iran conflict: World War III memes go viral as Trump mulls intervention Israel has also stated that it struck 'at the heart of Iran's nuclear enrichment programme,' Eurasian Times reported. However, it does not have the capability to completely destroy Iran's nuclear program. Israel needs American help to hit Iran's Fordow nuclear plant, the report claimed. The facility is the most heavily fortified nuclear site in Iran and is situated deep inside a mountain. An American-made bunker-busting bomb is the only way the facility can be damaged. The GBU-57, a bomb buster that can break through more than 200 feet of strong concrete is among the capabilities that the B-2 can carry, the Jerusalem Post report added. The 30,000-pound warhead, also named Massive Ordnance Penetrator, can only be deployed on the B-2 bomber. The deployment of the stealth fighters to Guam has ignited concerns about whether the US could strike Fordow. On Friday, the White House said that Trump would make his decision regarding a possible strike on Iran in two weeks. B-2's stealth and strike capabilities The B-2 Spirit, manufactured by Northrop Grumman, can carry both regular and nuclear weapons while staying under the radar, due to its stealthy design. Each B-2 costs about $2.1 billion making it the priciest military plane, the report stated. Only 21 of them were ever built because of budget cuts after the Cold War with one lost in a 2008 crash at Guam. With a flying range of over 6,000 nautical miles non-stop, and the ability to refuel in the air, the B-2 can hit heavily fortified targets like nuclear sites. It can carry up to 40,000 pounds of bombs, including the GBU-57A/B. The bomber can reportedly carry other types of bombs, like JDAMs, JSOWs, and JASSMs, which makes it useful for different kinds of missions. It is a vital part of America's nuclear defense, able to hold up to 16 B83 nuclear bombs. With its tech that helps it dodge radar, low visibility, and a two-person crew, the B-2 is designed for sneaky, safe, and flexible missions, making it a key player in the Pacific. FAQs Q: What caused the B-2 crash in Guam? A: A B-2 bomber crash in Guam in 2008 was caused by moisture in the aircraft's sensors, leading to faulty airspeed readings and a subsequent stall shortly after takeoff. No fatalities occurred. Q: How many B-2 stealth bombers does the US have? A: The United States Air Force currently has 20 B-2 Spirit bombers in its active fleet, with one previously lost in the 2008 Guam crash. Q: Are there B-2 bombers in Guam? A: While not permanently stationed, B-2 bombers are periodically deployed to Guam as part of the US Indo-Pacific Command's bomber rotation. Q: How much is a B-2 stealth bomber worth? A: Each B-2 Spirit costs approximately $2.1 billion, including development, making it the most expensive aircraft ever built.

BJP worker found dead in Bengal's Hooghly, party alleges ‘political murder'
A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker, Sheikh Bakibulla, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his house at Goghat in Hooghly district in West Bengal on Saturday (June 21, 2025). Mr. Bakibulla was reportedly found hanging in his house this morning. The BJP has alleged that it was a 'political murder'. The police sent the body for post-mortem on Saturday and initiated an investigation. 'In this specific case at the Goghat police station, a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against unknown persons under section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (murder). After the post-mortem examination, the surgeon verbally opined that the death was due to hanging,' a high-ranking official of the West Bengal Police told The Hindu. The father of the deceased, Sheikh Abdullah, told reporters that Mr. Bakibullah was an activist of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) before he joined the BJP. 'Out of pain and misery, he joined the BJP. When he was in the CPI(M), the Trinamool (ruling Trinamool Congress) was after his life. They had assaulted him multiple times in the past,' Mr. Abdullah said on Saturday after his son's body was discovered. Mr. Bakibulla's bereaved widow said that her husband had gone to bed along with her the previous night, and that she was unaware of anything unusual happening until morning. 'His hands were tied, and there was blood at the spot. It is clear that this is a murder. We have a clear demand for the police administration — immediately send the body for post-mortem and find out who did it. This cannot be covered up,' Biman Ghosh, the BJP MLA of Hooghly's Pursurah, said. The saffron party also took to X to accuse 'TMC-backed goons' of being behind Mr. Bakibullah's death. 'Sheikh Bakibulla, a BJP worker from Goghat, was hanged with hands tied. TMC-backed goons did it. No arrest. No action. This is not just a murder, this is targeted political violence in Bengal under Mamata Banerjee,' the post by BJP West Bengal read. Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress denied the allegations and accused the BJP of 'adding political colour' to the tragedy. In other developments, at least two people died and several were injured in a crude bomb explosion in the Labpur police station area of West Bengal's Birbhum district on Saturday.

Zelensky urges Western allies to allot 0.25% GDP for Ukraine's defense industry
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Ukraine's Western partners to allocate 0.25% of their GDP towards helping Kyiv ramp up weapons production, reported Reuters. Ukraine is in immediate need of improved weaponry and better ammunition.(REUTERS) "Ukraine is part of Europe's security and we want 0.25% of the GDP of a particular partner country to be allocated for our defence industry and domestic production," Zelensky said. "We have launched a program 'Build with Ukraine' and in summer we will sign relevant agreements to start exporting our technologies abroad in the format of opening production lines in European countries," Zelensky said. This year Kyiv had secured $43 billion to finance its domestic weapon production, he added. As Russia is bigger and more equipped than Ukraine, and the strife between the two has been escalating in the past few weeks, Zelensky's country is in immediate need of improved weaponry and better ammunition. Kyiv plans to launch joint weapon production outside of the country and will start exporting some of its military production technologies, the President affirmed. In the remarks released for publication by his office on Saturday, Zelenskiy said Ukraine was in talks with Denmark, Norway, Germany, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Lithuania to launch joint weapon production. According to the report, Ukraine's 40% defence needs are presently covered with domestic production, and the government is on the lookout for ways to boost this production in the future. Zelensky attended the G7 summit in Canada last week. He especially wanted to meet US President Donald Trump to discuss the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, help impose stronger sanctions against Russia and urge increased military support for his country. This effort went in vain as Trump left the summit a day early to address the Israel-Iran conflict in Washington. The Ukrainian President is likely to attend the upcoming NATO summit, where he will be meeting several Western leaders. He would also make a second attempt to meet Donald Trump after the G7.
