Meghan Markle says a 'lie can't last forever' as she addresses 'false' public narrative about her
Meghan Markle has taken a fresh swipe at the Royal Family as she hinted at an ongoing "lie" about her which she says has been going on for "eight years" in a new podcast interview
Meghan Markle has said that if she was able to rewrite her own public narrative, she would simply "ask people to tell the truth". In a brand new podcast interview with the Duchess of Sussex, the former royal alluded to a "lie" that has persisted for the past eight years.
Meghan said: "A lie can't live forever. Eight years is a long time, but not forever." Flashback eight years to 2017, Meghan was an actress in the hit legal series Suits, and had just started dating her now-husband, Prince Harry.
As their relationship continued, she prepared to transition into life as a member of the Royal Family after Harry asked for her hand in marriage in November 2017, following 16 months of dating, six of which were kept a secret from the public at the time. That year also included Meghan's first meeting with Kate Middleton and the beginnings of Prince William's fallout with Harry after he urged his younger brother not to rush into the relationship.
Entrepreneur Emma Grede asked Meghan on her Aspire podcast: 'I want to say this to you in the best way, because I wonder if you could rewrite your public narrative from scratch, is there anything that you would do differently?'
Meghan replied calmly: 'Yes, I would ask people to tell the truth.'
The duchess did not give any specific context regarding whom she was referring but later hinted at a 'lie' told eight years ago.
Grede said: 'You're very measured about it. I would just get so angry if I felt like everyone was lying about me all the time.'
Meghan replied: 'Peaks and valleys… Of course, I've gone through those chapters and you do a lot of work, you do a lot of self work and go, what's the why? It's happening for a reason.'
She added that her "dear friend" tennis champion Serena Williams, who recently visited Scotland to attend a wedding with her husband, told her 'a lie can't live forever'.
The duchess said: 'She told me years ago, a lie can't live forever. Eight years is a long time, but not forever.'
In her infamous 2021 Oprah interview, Meghan said she could not be expected to stay quiet if 'the Firm is playing a role in perpetuating falsehoods' about her and Harry.
She also publicly singled out Kate for allegedly making her cry in the run-up to her wedding and said it was important for people to 'understand the truth'.
It was a dispute over flower girl dresses but according to Harry's memoir Spare, this happened in 2018, four days before the wedding.
Meghan said the Palace failed to correct reports which said she left Kate in tears.
In the YouTube footage of the podcast interview, Meghan acknowledged her life now was 'very different' from when she was an actress.
She also addressed her recent twerking video, which showed her dancing to the Baby Mama song with Harry while heavily pregnant with Princess Lilibet in the hospital as she tried to hurry the birth on.
She described the moment as a reminder of a 'real authentic fun life".
Meghan said it felt freeing to be back on social media where she can share things on her own terms.
The 43 year old previously ran her lifestyle blog, The Tig, but was forced to delete it after she started dating Prince Harry.
Speaking of the 'twerking' clip, she said: 'That wasn't yesterday. That was four years ago so it's also a really great reminder that with all the noise or whatever people do, there's still whole life, a real, authentic, fun life that's happening behind the scenes.
'I'm just grateful that now, being back on social as well, I have a place where I can share it on my own terms. It feels liberating.'

King Charles' sweet frozen-in-time tribute to loved one who died decades ago
When one of King Charles's loved ones passed away over two decades ago, he was left totally bereft, experts have revealed in a new documentary - and he was so heartbroken he has kept several tributes to them in one of his royal homes King Charles has a seriously sentimental side - and this heartbreaking tribute to a lost loved one proves just how deep it runs. More than 20 years ago, Charles lost someone who had been incredibly important to him, and experts have revealed that to this day, he has kept a few key aspects of their belongings in his home in exactly the same place - as if they might walk back in the door any moment now. The revelation came in the new Channel 5 documentary, Birkhall: The King's Secret Sanctuary, which details the monarch's relationship with one of his absolutely favourite residences. Birkhall is positioned very near the Royal Family's famous Balmoral estate, where they gather every summer and spend weeks engaged in countryside pursuits like fishing and picnics, in the privacy afforded to them by the Scottish countryside. The nearby Birkhall is a much more modest home compared to the grandeur of Balmoral, and since his childhood, it is said by the experts to have been one of Charles's favourite places to spend time - in part because of who it previously belonged to, his beloved grandmother, the Queen Mother. "For Charles, she was this haven of security and affection, and laughter and love," explained former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond. The expert continued that during Charles's unhappy school years in the north of Scotland, his grandmother's home of Birkhall, and the warm relationship they shared, offered the young prince some welcome respite. "When he was at Gordonstoun school in the north of Scotland, he would, whenever he could, take the two-hour journey to Birkhall to be with his beloved granny." When the Queen Mother died in 2002 at her home of Royal Lodge, Windsor - at the ripe old age of 101 - the Scottish retreat of Birkhall went to Charles, who was left utterly bereft at the loss. "For Charles, the loss of his grandmother was absolutely devastating," explained Jennie, but after taking over the property, he started undertaking essential refurbishments, updating the heating systems, and redecorating much of the place with the help of his now-wife Camilla. However, Charles made sure that the Queen Mother's presence is still felt in the house, "Her coats are still hanging up, on the is really sweet," revealed expert Afua Hagan. This heartbreaking nod to his grandmother in his favourite home is not the only way he has paid tribute to the Queen Mother, the expert also revealed that he has kept the barometer she used to use to check the weather hanging up. The Queen Mother was also a huge fan of clocks, the experts revealed, and used to have eight in the dining room alone - all set to "slightly different times" so they would chime out of sync with one another. The Queen Mother's guests were said to have been sent round the bend by this - but this reaction was something the quirky royal "thoroughly enjoyed". Charles has kept her clocks hanging up, it is revealed in the documentary, "He kept all eight of those grandfather clocks in the dining room," Afua explained, "but he set them all to the same time, so it didn't drive everybody as bonkers as it had done before." A royal author has previously claimed that the Queen Mother was actually "more of a mother" to her grandson than the late Queen Elizabeth herself - putting this down to the former monarch's gruelling schedule as head of state. "In some ways, the Queen Mother was a mother figure to Charles just because the Queen became Queen when Charles was so young. There were a lot of tours of the Commonwealth and every time the Queen had to go away, Prince Charles stayed with the Queen Mother," Gareth Russell, who has written a biography of the Queen Mother explained to People magazine. "They had a great sense of humour, and she always encouraged him." Birkhall: The King's Secret Sanctuary, airs Saturday 21 June at 7.30pm on Channel 5.

Meghan Markle's brand As Ever sells out in minutes but fans are skeptical
Some fans have accused the Duchess of playing the 'sold out' game with her products. Meghan Markle took to social media to share her delight as her As Ever products once again sold out in minutes. However, some fans are sceptical - with some suggesting the Duchess of Sussex is playing the 'sold out' game. In an Instagram story shared yesterday, Meghan could be seen telling her followers that she 'couldn't believe' that nearly all of her items had sold out - even the flower sprinkles which she said she knew would be a hit once again with customers. She said that her team at As Ever 'spent time' making sure they had enough stock for the new sale, so customers could get their hands on a new honey and an apricot spread. On top of this, the Duchess also did a restock of six items from her initial sale, which was said to 'fly off the shelves' two months ago. In the post, the mum of two said: "We spent so much time making sure we had so much more inventory. That's why we took the time and you guys are doing it again. We are nearly sold out on everything. '"And I can't believe it - even flower sprinkles which I knew would be the big one again. So that has more inventory than all of it and that is also about to sell out." While many fans may have been waiting in anticipation of the restock and new products, others were a bit more dubious about how quickly the stock was said to have sold out on Friday. On social media, one person said: "She is playing the 'sold out' game and thinking we are all stupid. You fool no one Meghan Markle." With a second person adding: "Wait the only new thing she dropped was the apricot spread. And it sold out after 20 mins. Meghan must think people are really stupid." A third user also commented: "Wow they have super small quantities. The apricot and tea already sold out." While fans noticed the new apricot spread and honey within yesterday's sale, those waiting for Meghan's new Napa Valley rose wine will need to wait until July 1 for it to be available. This rose is Meghan's first step into the wine market and the wine is said to be sourced up the west coast from her Montecito mansion in California. Described by her brand as having "soft notes of stone fruit, gentle minerality and a lasting finish", this "bespoke blend" is said to be launching just in time for some summer entertaining. In Meghan's first sale, she launched nine As Ever products, which included a raspberry spread that came in a keepsake packaging or in a normal jar, flower sprinkles, wildflower honey with honeycomb, a crepe mix, a shortbread cookie mix and three herbal teas - lemon ginger, peppermint and hibiscus. All of these products were said to have sold out in 45 minutes after their initial release. For the restock, the Duchess brought back the three herbal teas, the flower sprinkles, crepe mix and shortbread cookie mix. Before Friday's sale, Meghan said: "We are pleased to share that many favourites from our debut As Ever collection are back – and, we've added something new. We hope you find some special treats that bring extra joy to you and your loved ones."

Why has Thomas Markle NEVER met Prince Harry? There can only be 3 reasons and the third is bad news for Meghan, says pro
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) FATHER'S Day has just been and gone, but one dad who was not given a royal shout out was Thomas Markle. The former lighting director, 80, is estranged from Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, 43, and hasn't even met her husband Prince Harry or his grandkids, Archie and Lilibet. Speaking on The Sun's Royal Exclusive show, he said: 'Why did Mr Markle never meet Prince Harry? 'There can only be three reasons for that. 'One that she was ashamed of him, which I think is a bit unattractive. 'Two, possibly that she thought he'd done something, but when Prince Harry rang Mr Markle up and asked if he could marry his daughter, he said 'you can marry her as long as you never raise your hand against her'. 'Of course we don't talk like that, so maybe he lives in a world where people have done that sort of thing. 'I dispute that as well. I don't think that's the case. 'The third reason is that I think she was worried that he might actually have warned Prince Harry - this is not what you're getting, this girl.' Thomas famously didn't attend his daughter's globally-televised royal wedding to Prince Harry in 2018 due to suffering two heart attacks - although her mum Doria Ragland did. He watched the wedding of Meghan and Harry from a £23-a-night Airbnb in the country. Meghan shares videos of Archie and Lilibet to wish Harry a Happy Father's Day After the pensioner - who divorced Doria in 1987 - was unable to walk his daughter down the aisle, they've not been in contact since. Hugo continued: 'Mr Markle should have been at the wedding and they should have flown him over and stuck him in a health farm in the Shetlands or somewhere. 'Prince Harry should have gone up to see him and if he couldn't have walked the aisle he should have been sitting there, because, as you rightly say, he did a lot for that girl and she even admitted it in the early days before she distanced herself from him.' Due to their estrangement, Thomas previously confessed he has resigned himself to the fact he will most likely never meet Archie, six, or Lilibet, four. 9 The Sun's royal editor Matt Wilkinson talking to Hugo Vickers and Samara Gill on our royal exclusive show Credit: The Sun 9 Thomas has not yet met his grandkids, Lilibet and Archie Credit: Instagram 9 Meghan's mum Doria has met the royal family and is active in her grandkids' lives Credit: PA This is despite him living just 250 miles away from Meghan for years, in a home filled with pictures and accolades of his daughter - who he affectionately dubs "Megsy". Now Thomas has left his California home after 10 years and has relocated to South East Asia to spend his time with "kinder people". The Duchess' estranged father also admitted that while he doesn't like some of Meghan's behaviour, his "door is always open". However, Meghan has previously shared the hurt and "betrayal she felt" by her father. She opened up about her relationship with her estranged dad and said she was left feeling crushed when he lied to her about not talking to the media. In her sensational interview with Oprah in 2021, Meghan said: "I'm trying to decide if I'm comfortable even talking about that. 'It was... if we were going to use the word betrayal.' Meghan Markle on how dad Thomas Markle 'betrayed' her IN her candid interview with Oprah, the Duchess of Sussex opened up about her relationship with her dad and said she was left feeling crushed when he lied to her before the wedding. Meghan said she tried to 'protect' her parents from the 'media frenzy' sparked due to an 'obsession about anything in my world'. It was the first time Meghan has publicly discussed her dad, who she has not spoken to since before her wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018. Thomas, an ex-Hollywood lighting director, has spoken about her daughter's relationship publicly and described their decision to walk away from the royals as embarrassing. Their relationship soured in the run-up to their 2018 Windsor Castle wedding, when he admitted agreeing to stage pictures of himself. Meghan was asked if it felt like a 'betrayal' when she found out her dad was working with the Press, and replied: 'I'm trying to decide if I'm comfortable even talking about that. 'It was… if we were going to use the word betrayal.' Meghan added: 'Because when I asked him, when we were told by the comms team, this is a story that was going to be coming out, which, by the way, the tabloids had apparently known for a month or so and decided to hold until the Sunday before our wedding because they wanted to create drama, which is also a really key point in all this. 'We called my dad and I asked him and he said, no, absolutely not." Oprah then said: 'He said no, absolutely not. He hadn't been talking to them. So he basically lied to you.' The full transcript of the interview can be read here. MEGHAN'S FATHER'S DAY SNUB This follows Meghan sharing a rare video showing Archie and Lilibet to wish Harry a Happy Father's day. The heartwarming footage was posted on Instagram with Jason Mraz's hit 'Have It All' playing in the background. "The best," she captioned her post. "Happy Father's Day to our favorite guy." The compilation showed photos and videos of Harry laughing, dancing and spending quality time with his children through the years. While Thomas - and also King Charles - was omitted from the post, Meghan did post a tribute to Doria on Mother's Day. The Duchess has been more open with posting her children this year, amid her new business ventures, including her As Ever brand and her Netflix cooking show, With Love, Meghan.
