Haryana emerges as a rising power in logistics and supply chain: CM Nayab Saini

KURUKSHETRA: Haryana is set to become a major force in India's logistics and supply chain sector, chief minister (CM) Nayab Singh Saini announced during the inauguration of the Inland Container Depot (ICD) and PM Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal at Dhirpur in Kurukshetra.
Describing the terminal as a transformative milestone, the CM emphasized its potential to drive prosperity among farmers, entrepreneurs, and traders while creating new employment opportunities for the youth.
Highlighting the state's growing appeal for global investors, Saini lauded the Saraf Group from Dubai for investing in the region. "This investment reflects strong confidence in Haryana's pro-business environment and represents the deepening economic ties between India and the UAE," CM Saini stated.
The state-of-the-art terminal, spread across 18 acres, offers integrated facilities such as customs clearance, warehousing, and cold storage under one roof—amenities once exclusive to metros like Delhi and Mumbai. The CM asserted that such infrastructure would significantly boost the ease of doing business and open up new avenues for investment in Haryana.
The project is a key part of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, aimed at building holistic infrastructure.

CM Saini stressed that the terminal is not just a logistics hub for Haryana but also a strategic gateway benefiting neighbouring states such as Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. 'This is a shining example of integrated infrastructure development and our commitment to making India a developed nation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision,' he said.
The Saraf Group is also operating a Multimodal Logistics Park on 115 acres in Palwal, while developing a transshipment hub on 30 acres in Rewari, further reinforcing the state's growing logistics network.
CM Saini attributed this progress to the vision of former CM Manohar Lal, who endorsed the project during a visit to Dubai. 'This ICD project is a seal of approval on our simple yet powerful economic and logistics policies,' he said. He also highlighted the role of Haryana's Department of Foreign Cooperation, which is supporting businesses and facilitating skilled manpower for global markets.
The terminal is expected to reduce logistics costs by 20–30% and significantly cut down delivery time.
This will increase the credibility and global demand for Haryana's products. 'As transportation, packaging, and logistics services grow, it will also generate thousands of job opportunities for our youth,' CM Saini remarked.
Calling the Dhirpur depot a 'Gateway to Global Trade,' the CM urged young entrepreneurs to take full advantage of this facility and contribute to making Haryana India's top export hub.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries including former minister Subhash Sudha, Saraf Group vice-chairman Sharafuddin Saraf, chairman Salah Saraf, Kurukshetra deputy commissioner Neha Singh, SP Nitish Aggarwal and other prominent persons and officials.

FMCG companies roll out the red carpet for kiranas amid quick commerce boom
Leading companies like ITC , Nestle , Coca-Cola , Tata Consumer, Dabur and Parle are making fresh moves to improve trade and relationships with general trade distributors , such as supplying more premium products and offering higher margins amid rapid growth but increased scrutiny on quick commerce. This is a reversal from last year, when companies had slashed stocking in general trade amid a protracted slowdown which saw quick-commerce companies gain share for not just impulse categories such as soft drinks and snacks, but also large staples packs of 5 kg and 10 kg. "For general trade, we have made a wider portfolio of premium packs," Sandeep Sule, divisional chief executive, trade marketing and distribution at ITC , which makes and sells Engage perfume and Master Chef ready-to-cook and frozen foods, said. "Coca-Cola is empowering general trade via our super power retailer programme. Now, close to one million retailers in India and Southwest Asia are ordering on this platform," a spokesperson for the beverages maker said. On June 16, the All India Consumer Products Distributors Federation (AICPDF) wrote an open letter to FMCG companies alleging "lack of binding agreements with distributors and vendors." The entity, which represents over 4.5 lakh distributors and 13 million kirana retailers, asked companies for "a single, channel-agnostic market operating price" across general trade, quick commerce or modern trade. "We follow a GT-first (General Trade-first) policy. Among our latest initiatives is to escalate replenishment of stocks with trade partners, so their returns on investment are optimised, and their capital is put to best use," said Mayank Shah, vice president of Parle Products. Faster stocking cycles reduce storage costs, directly improving return on investment. A spokesperson for packaged foods maker Nestle India said the company "is actively enhancing its direct coverage and further deepening its relationships, as traditional trade remains the cornerstone of its business." Sunil D'Souza, MD at Tata Consumer Products, said in a recent earnings call that it has "increased retail margins" on some of its brands in general trade to build momentum back under the business.
