Nassourdine Imavov isn't waiting for a title shot, he's forcing the UFC's hand at UFC Paris
The post Nassourdine Imavov isn't waiting for a title shot, he's forcing the UFC's hand at UFC Paris appeared first on ClutchPoints.
Nassourdine Imavov, the surging French middleweight and current No. 1 contender, has made his intentions crystal clear as the UFC returns to Paris on September 6. In a statement that signals both his ambition and readiness, Imavov declared:
This mindset encapsulates Imavov's approach since breaking into the elite of the division. Not content to wait idly for opportunity, Imavov is set to serve as the official backup for the blockbuster UFC 319 main event between champion Dricus du Plessis and the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev on August 16 in Chicago. Should either fighter be forced to withdraw, Imavov will be ready to step in on a moment's notice for a shot at UFC gold. If not, he's already plotting his next move, headlining in front of a raucous Parisian crowd at the Accor Arena.
The Road to No. 1: Imavov's Meteoric Rise
Imavov's place atop the middleweight rankings is no accident. Over the past year, he has compiled a four-fight win streak, capped by a stunning second-round TKO of former champion Israel Adesanya in February, a performance that earned him his first UFC 'Performance of the Night' bonus. Prior to that, Imavov dispatched Brendan Allen, Jared Cannonier, and Roman Dolidze, notching two finishes over top-five opposition in the process.
His resume now reads like a checklist of the division's most dangerous names, and his confidence is justified. 'I cleaned the weight class in one year, four fights, two wins against top ten competition, two finishes against top five competition,' Imavov asserted after his win over Adesanya.

Yet, the middleweight title picture remains crowded. With du Plessis and Chimaev set for a high-stakes showdown at UFC 319, Imavov must wait just a little longer for his crack at the belt, or seize it if fate intervenes in Chicago.
UFC Paris: The Perfect Stage for 'The Sniper'
The UFC's return to Paris on September 6 marks its fourth consecutive year in the French capital, a testament to the sport's explosive growth in France. Imavov, who emigrated from Dagestan to France as a child and developed his fighting skills in Paris, is now the country's top MMA export. The Accor Arena will be electric if he headlines, with French fans eager to see their homegrown contender in action.
Imavov's plan is simple: if he doesn't fight for the title at UFC 319, he'll call out a top contender for UFC Paris. 'If no one pulls out, we'll call someone out for Paris. That's the deal with the UFC!' he said, underscoring his refusal to let his momentum stall.

With du Plessis and Chimaev battling for the title, the question becomes: who is the ideal opponent for Imavov to secure an undeniable claim to the next title shot?
Sean Strickland, the former champion, sits at No. 2 in the rankings and remains a high-profile name, but he's coming off a loss to du Plessis and may not be immediately available. Robert Whittaker, another former champion, is also coming off a defeat to Chimaev and is scheduled to face Reinier de Ridder. Israel Adesanya, whom Imavov just finished, is unlikely to get a quick rematch.
One name stands out: Caio Borralho. The Brazilian is riding a 14-fight win streak, is undefeated in the UFC, and recently called for a fight with Imavov, believing their styles would make for a compelling main event. Borralho has also just bested Jared Cannonier, another divisional stalwart, and is hungry for a signature win to cement his own title credentials.
Another possibility, though less likely, is a rematch with Sean Strickland, who previously defeated Imavov by decision. However, given Strickland's recent loss and the UFC's penchant for fresh matchups, Borralho remains the most logical and marketable option.

For Imavov, the stakes could not be higher. Headlining UFC Paris would be a career-defining moment, but the real prize is ensuring he is next in line for the middleweight crown. A win over a streaking contender like Borralho in front of his home fans would make his case undeniable.

Rennes interested in signing English defender Archie Brown
According to a report from Sacha Tavolieri, Stade Rennais are interested in signing Archie Brown (23) from KAA Gent during the summer transfer window. The English full-back is expected to leave the Jupiler Pro League club after he failed to report back for training on time. The former England youth international was expected to return to training, but reported that he was sick. Tavolieri understands that this was a misunderstanding between Brown and the Belgian club's management and that the issue has been resolved. However, a potential transfer still looks likely this summer. Rennes face competition from Genoa and Torino for the defender's services. One in, one out? It could be a busy summer in defence for Habib Beye's side this summer. Lillian Brassier's loan move has already been made permanent from Marseille. In respect of departures, the Ligue 1 club have received an offer in the region of €5m for Christopher Wooh from Trabzonspor, L'Équipe understands. GFFN | Liam Wraith

BKFC 76 results: Jessica Eye wins first fight back from retirement, beats UFC veteran Mariya Agapova
Jessica Eye is going home with a couple of cuts and some new bruises but a win on her record as the one-time UFC title challenger returned from retirement and beat Mariya Agapova at BKFC 76. The story of the fight was volume and accuracy with Eye outlanding Agapova by a wide margin as she consistently pressed forward to close the distance and then unloaded with a barrage of punches. When it was over, Eye had clearly done enough to earn the victory with the judges scoring the contest 49-45, 50-44 and 49-45 in her favor as she moves to 1-0 in the BKFC ring. Advertisement 'These bruises heal but the evil lives on,' Eye shouted to the Texas crowd. 'That's what you guys came here for. Are you not entertained?' The flyweights traded body shots to open the fight with Agapova then looked to use her reach at distance while Eye was methodically stalking her across the ring. While she did end up with a cut over her eye from an early exchange, Eye showed a lot of confidence while coming after Agapova while trying to set up a heavy right hand. Eye continuously looked to get inside while pressing Agapova against the ropes and then unleashing a barrage of punches. A couple of wild exchanges saw both fighters land some solid shots but Eye was landing with better power. The end of the third round saw Eye finally unleash her biggest succession of punches as she went hard to the body and then back up top to the head just before the bell sounded. Advertisement The crowd was getting a little restless as Eye was constantly pressing forward, pushing Agapova into the ropes and then trying to throw punches on the inside. That inevitably led to the referee breaking them apart and resetting in the center of the ring. Eye did manage to clip Agapova with a stiff right hand just before the fourth round ended that definitely got her attention. With two minutes remaining, Eye kept moving forward aggressively when she popped Agapova, who stumbled backwards before hitting the canvas. While Agapova complained that she got shoved rather than knocked down, the referee administered the required count before allowing the action to continue. Eye went back to the body again with another blistering combination just before the fight came to an end. Overall, Eye threw over 300 strikes during the fight and she connected with more than 200 shots, which was far more than Agapova across the five round fight. Advertisement Following nearly three years out of action, the 38-year-old veteran returned with a win on Saturday and it appears Eye plans to keep going with a new career started as a member of the BKFC roster. REMATCH: An undeniably fun but flawed game with bags of potential
REMATCH, the football video game developed by French studio Sloclap, generated a huge amount of hype during its beta period earlier this year, but has it delivered on the hype upon full release? The online multiplayer game draws immediate comparisons with Rocket League but, despite its appearance, it's less arcade action and more of a pure football simulation. Advertisement You take full control of a single footballer and their actions during 3v3, 4v4 and 5v5 matches. Whereas in EA FC everything is almost automatic, the ball moving between players and darting towards the goal like a magnet, here it is completely up to you to put the ball in the right place. The skill bar is set very high. It's very easy to underhit a pass or send a shot totally waywards. That's because REMATCH plays a lot more like a third-person shooter than your traditional sports game, aiming your shots with a reticle as you would in Helldivers 2 or Grand Theft Auto. Confusingly, passes are instead aimed with the analog stick. Getting used to this takes a lot of practice and patience, but once you do it can lead to tonnes of fun and fluid gameplay. That said, the control scheme is not intuitive, although Sloclap say that button mapping is on the way. I can't say I've gotten particularly good at the game just yet and my struggles have been compounded by consistent glitching. During one of my turns in net I was ready to collect a harmless long punt up the field, only for the game to stutter momentarily and so the ball flew past me into the goal. Read – Wirtz explains why he chose Liverpool over Bayern and Man City Regardless, I've been coming back for more, eager to try more tricks and flicks, maybe finally pull off a bicycle kick after bouncing the ball off the wall, and get one of those sweet, sweet overtime wins at the end of a back-and-forth contest. Advertisement As enjoyable as REMATCH is, there is a distinct lack of content on offer. There's the online matches, practice mode, character customisation (and the monetisation that comes with that) and… that's it. Not even a single player mode. For the £20.99 price tag you might be forgiven in expecting there should be more available at launch. Its free-to-play equivalents provide a wider array of content, although they have obviously been around longer. Still, Sloclap could be in danger of losing the attention of their already large player base. One day after launch they revealed REMATCH attracted one million unique players across all platforms. On Steam it peaked at over 92,000 players on its first day, retaining the majority of them over the following days. How long before they crave something new and move on to the next thing? Another drawback is the fact there is no crossplay at the time of writing, meaning you can only play with players on your system of choice. Again Sloclap say that will be remedied in due course. Advertisement REMATCH is an undoubtedly entertaining game set against some wonderful artwork, with arenas ranging from your standard giant bowl stadium to the desert and, my personal favourite, a jungle (sometimes it even changes between goals). But it does come with its flaws. You will definitely be seeing viral clips of this game pop up on your feed over the next few weeks, and potentially months, maybe even years – if it can meet its vast potential. Rating: 7/10 Platforms: Xbox Series X|S (GamePass subscription required), PlayStation 5 (PS Plus subscription required), Windows PC.
