AEW President Tony Khan fires back at WWE's counter-programming: 'This won't end like JCP'
Tony Khan didn't hold back after AEW Double or Nothing 2025. The AEW boss made it clear that WWE's counter-programming isn't going unnoticed. Speaking to the media, Khan said this is the most consistent head-to-head scheduling he's seen since WWE went after Jim Crockett Promotions in the 1980s.
'It's pretty consistent,' Khan said. 'I'd say it's the most consistent event head-to-head scheduling since Jim Crockett Promotions. And I can tell you this will go a lot differently than that did.'
AEW is not backing down from the fight
In the past, Vince McMahon went after JCP by running Survivor Series at the same time as Starrcade in 1987. Then came Royal Rumble on the same day as Bunkhouse Stampede. JCP couldn't handle the pressure and had to sell the company to Turner Broadcasting in 1988. Khan knows the story but believes AEW will not meet the same fate.

This weekend, WWE ran NXT Battleground opposite AEW's Double or Nothing. In July, AEW's All In Texas will go up against an NXT premium live event and Saturday Night's Main Event. AEW had announced their show almost a year earlier. WWE also has a European tour lined up during AEW's Forbidden Door in London this August.
Khan didn't reveal AEW's next steps but made it clear they are ready. He also spoke about Scorpio Sky, saying he still has plans for him but the timing wasn't right yet.
The message from Khan was clear. He sees what WWE is doing, but AEW won't back down. This rivalry might remind fans of the old days, but Khan believes the outcome will be very different.

Is WWE planning to change Cody Rhodes' iconic entrance theme song ‘Kingdom'?
(Image via Getty Images/WWE) Former Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes who is currently trying to prove his position in WWE, his entrance theme song 'Kingdom' was also supposed to go through a change. As WWE is bringing on a lot of new changes with its creative elements, especially with the wrestler entrance themes, speculations suggested that Cody Rhodes theme song was also to be replaced with a new theme song. So, is it going to be replaced by the creative team of WWE? Let's find about it more in this article below. Will WWE replace Cody Rhodes' theme song with a new song? Speculation had swirled among fans that Cody Rhodes might have to abandon the theme that has become inseparable from his WWE . The good news is that fans can breathe a sigh of relief as The American Nightmare 's iconic entrance music is reportedly not going to be replaced and will be continued with the current theme, ' Kingdom ' by Downstait. This was further confirmed by Sean Ross Sapp recently. During a Q&A session backstage, Sean Ross Sapp from Fightful was asked whether Cody could be compelled to change the theme song that has become a signature element of his presentation. Sapp clarified that, due to Cody's current position in the company, that won't be happening in the near future. Sean Ross Sapp said, 'I think that guy has enough pull to avoid that. It's such an integral part of his presentation and the WWE presentation in general. Like, you wanna go there and do the 'Whoa,' you wanna listen to the song, all that good stuff. I think that would be really bad.' He further added, if Cody himself ever decided to change it, that'd be a different story—but WWE forcing the switch? it is highly unlikely. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo 'Now, if he wanted to change it, I'm sure that it would be changed, but I would be shocked if they changed that one. Cody Rhodes makes an electric entrance: Money in the Bank 2023 highlights Earlier, Rhodes floated the idea of replacing his theme song 'Kingdom' by letting his young daughter Liberty re-record the famous 'Wrestling has more than one royal family' intro to add a personal touch that's seen as a tribute to his wrestling lineage. 'I recorded that weeks after I left WWE the first time (in 2016). To this day, we still use that audio sample. My goal, actually, I don't know if she would want to do this, but the beginning of my song and the voiceover that exists, I'd love my daughter [Liberty] to do it at one point. I want her to have a good experience in this. I had the best experience. Certainly, you can't predict the highs and lows and all it's going to be. Opportunity showed, opportunity knocked, I was able to answer. Very lucky.'
