Evan Ferguson to Celtic transfer timeline and when loan deal from Brighton could really be announced

Evan Ferguson could be a realistic target for Celtic before the end of the window.
But only if no other club take a gamble on the permanent transfer for the struggling Brighton star, according to Record Sport's Keith Jackson.

The Ireland international made just three appearances for West Ham without scoring - after being shipped to London on loan after falling out of favour under Fabian Hurzeler.

The 20-year-old netted just one Premier League goal last season - a far cry from his breakthrough season in 2023/24 which saw the striker touted with £100million moves away from the AMEX Stadium.

That has lead to Celtic emerging as a potential destination for the frontman as he looks to kickstart his career.
Reflecting on Ferguson's early promise, Jackson told Hotline Live: "At that time, he was one of these guys that would come onto the pitch and visualise himself scoring a goal, as if he was going to manifest it.
"He knew he was going to score goals. He didn't think about it or overthink it - it was just all so natural to him at that point. He was phenomenal, and that is what he got the comparisons with Harry Kane.
"I don't think that was over the top at the time, because he was going goal for goal with Harry Kane at the time, and looking like a younger, stronger, faster version."

Host Daniel Caw felt that a loan move to the Scottish champions "made sense" for the campaign noting he would "fly" under Brendan Rodgers.
Jackson responded with a comparison to Max Aarons potential loan move from Bournemouth to Rangers - which has hit a roadblock over the Cherries' pursuit of a permanent exit.
He said: "I don't disagree, but as we said with Bournemouth and Aarons - these clubs are not in the business of doing favours for people.
"There would need to be a reason for Brighton to loan him out - I think he still has a few years left on his contract.
"If there is a manager down there who thinks they can make him a Premier League player, and they can get a fee that is similar with what Bournemouth are looking to do with Max Aarons right now - in terms of 'why would I put you out on loan if I think I can get £8million-£10million?'

"That is for a right-back, so what about a striker who has proven what he can do in the Premier League? What kind of price does that carry?
"If it gets to the end of the window, and nobody has taken a punt on him, that is when I think Celtic becomes a realistic possibility."

N24 Red-Flagged in Second Hour Due to Power Outage in Nürburgring Pit Building

Last year, a seven-hour red flag was raised at midnight due to extreme fog; this year, it's a red flag for the pit building losing power. The ADAC Ravenol 24 Hours of Nürburgring can not catch a break when it comes to weird stoppages. Just 90 minutes into the 24-hour race, action was halted when the pits momentarily lost power. Although the power came back relatively quickly, the red flag lingered, as the fueling rigs needed to be reset. Teams also needed to reboot their computers that were plugged into the power as well. Luckily, the tower didn't lose power, which would've resulted in a much longer pause to racing action. Nine leaders had started on lap 10 when the red flag came out and had to complete the 12.9-mile circuit to return to the pits slowly. In the Intercontinental GT Challenge, when a red flag is thrown, the race resets to the final lap completed by all drivers. The race will restart with nine laps completed. The red flag was raised after the field completed their first round of pit stops, with the Kondo Ferrari holding onto the lead ahead of the No. 17 GetSpeed Mercedes and the No. 34 Walkenhorst Aston Martin of Mattia Drudi. 'I couldn't be more prepared' – Elliott set for Ko

Oban Elliott has not fought since his win over Bassil Hafez in November 2024 [Getty Images] Welsh welterweight Oban Elliott insists he is in peak condition as he prepares to face South Korea's Seokhyeon Ko at UFC Fight Night in Baku, Azerbaijan on Saturday. Elliott, nicknamed "The Welsh Gangster" was originally set to fight on 31 May at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas against Ramiz Brahimaj. Advertisement That bout was cancelled due to visa issues, but the UFC moved swiftly to keep the 27-year-old active, rescheduling him for this weekend's card. Elliott, who has been training across Europe with some of the sport's elite, believes the late switch in opponent will not affect his performance. "I couldn't be more prepared," Elliott said. "The only difference this time is Ko is a southpaw, but with my main sparring partner being Roberto Soldic, it's the best preparation I could've asked for. "I feel very good. I'm ready. There's nothing I haven't seen." Advertisement Also known as "The Korean Tyson," Ko Seok-hyeon comes into the contest with an impressive 11-2 record, He is coming through the same path as Elliott in Dana White's contender series, but the Welshman remains respectful of the challenge ahead. "He's a great fighter. I respect anyone chasing success in this sport," Elliott added. "This is the biggest fight of my life." Elliott's preparation has seen him travel extensively, training with top-tier fighters across Germany, France, Croatia and the Netherlands. "I've trained with every style you can think of – the best guys in the world," he said. "It's been great experience for me." Advertisement Mental toughness, Elliott believes, will be the defining factor on the night. "Everyone is composed in the gym. A training camp is 90% physical and 10% mental," he explained. "But when the fight comes around, it flips. Then it's 90% mental, because everybody is physically ready. "I couldn't be more prepared for it. For me, it just feels like another day in the office." Looking beyond Baku, Elliott has his sights set on the UFC rankings and is not shy about his ambitions. "These rankings – someone, somewhere, made that list," he said. "But on my list, I'm number one. Whoever they send to me is coming for my spot, so send whoever you want… just don't expect to get them back." Advertisement The Merthyr Tydfil native hopes to one day compete for a UFC title in front of a home crowd at Cardiff's Principality Stadium, while also highlighting the rapid growth of mixed martial arts across the UK. "Paddy [Pimblett] could get his title fight at Anfield, and I could get mine in the Principality Stadium one day," said Elliott. "We've got the power to take over the UFC, that's for sure." His remarks come at a time when British fighters are enjoying a surge of success in the UFC, with talent from across the UK continuing to make a strong impact on the sport's biggest stage.

Nottingham Forest boss Nuno signs new three-year contract

Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo was rewarded for guiding his side into Europe by signing a new three-year contract on Saturday. The 51-year-old led Forest to a seventh-place finish in the Premier League last season, securing European qualification for the first time since the 1995/96 season. Advertisement After battling relegation for much of their first two campaigns back in the Premier League after a 23-year absence, Forest were on course to qualify for the Champions League last season. A late slump in form saw them settle for a place in the Europa Conference League instead and included a flashpoint when owner Evangelos Marinakis confronted Nuno on the pitch after a 2-2 draw against relegated Leicester. Former Manchester United captain and leading pundit Gary Neville said the Portuguese coach should have resigned in protest at that incident. However, the former Wolves and Tottenham boss has committed his future to the City Ground and thanked Marinakis for his support since he was appointed in December 2023. Advertisement "I am delighted to be able to continue our journey at this fantastic football club," Nuno said in a club statement. "Since we arrived at Forest, we have worked extremely hard to create a special bond between the players, the fans and everyone at the club, which helped us achieve great things last season. "I would like to thank our owner, Mr Marinakis, for his constant support and backing. It is important to me to share a strong relationship with our ownership and we have thoroughly enjoyed working together ever since I arrived at Forest." Marinakis paid tribute to the impact made by Nuno and reiterated his desire for the two-time European champions to be contenders for major trophies once more. Advertisement "We enjoy a strong and solid relationship together," said the Greek shipping magnate. "Above all, we share the same dream and ambition of writing a new history for Nottingham Forest, competing in the Premier League and in Europe and winning trophies for our great club." kca/nr
