Second black box recovered from Air India's crash site

AHMEDABAD : Investigators in India on Sunday recovered the second black box from the London-bound Air India Boeing 787 that crashed in the city of Ahmedabad, killing at least 279 people, authorities announced.
The cockpit voice recorder has been found, PK Mishra, a senior aide to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said in a statement. The flight data recorder was recovered on Friday, one day after the crash.
Only one passenger survived among the 242 travellers and crew on board the Air India jet when it crashed Thursday into a residential area of Ahmedabad, killing at least 38 people on the ground.
'The AAIB has launched a detailed investigation, and the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is conducting a parallel probe under international protocols since the aircraft is American-made,' Mishra said in a statement.
'Officials confirmed that the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) have been located and secured.'
Multiple experts have said it is too soon to say why the jet crashed shortly after takeoff.

'The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries penalties of imprisonment and whipping upon conviction,' he said in a statement today. Newton urged the public not to disrupt the investigation by speculating on the assault or circulating unverified information, especially as it could compromise the rights of the victim. India arrests two for allegedly harbouring gunmen behind Kashmir tourist killings
SRINAGAR, June 22 — New Delhi's counter-terrorism agency said today it has arrested two men in India-administered Kashmir for allegedly harbouring Pakistani gunmen behind a deadly attack on civilians that sparked a days-long conflict between the two countries. India's National Investigation Agency (NIA) said the two suspects were from the Pahalgam area, where gunmen killed 26 people two months ago. 'The two men had provided food, shelter and logistical support to the terrorists, who had... selectively killed the tourists on the basis of their religious identity,' a statement by NIA said. The majority of those killed were Hindu men. The agency identified the two men as Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar and Bashir Ahmad Jothar, claiming the duo 'have disclosed the identities of the three armed terrorists involved in the attack', and have confirmed they were Pakistani nationals affiliated to the proscribed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) group. New Delhi has accused Pakistan of backing the attack without making public any evidence, and Islamabad has denied the charge. The April 22 killings triggered a series of tit-for-tat diplomatic measures by the nuclear-armed countries and led to intense exchanges of missile, drone and artillery fire. The four-day conflict left more than 70 people dead on both sides. Muslim-majority Kashmir has been divided between the South Asian rivals — claimed by both in full — since their independence from British rule in 1947, and the neighbours have fought two wars over its control. Police slam ‘irresponsible, damaging' report linking new IGP Mohd Khalid to PKR, say won't tolerate attempt to undermine force
KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 – The police have today refuted a report by Malay daily Sinar Harian linking newly appointed Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Mohd Ismail to a political party. In a statement, the police criticised the media outlet for failing to verify the information before publication, calling the report irresponsible and damaging to the reputation of both the police force and the individual concerned. 'Journalistic ethics demand that all published reports undergo fact-checking, cross-verification, and uphold integrity in reporting,' the police force's secretary Datuk Kamaruzaman Abdullah said. The statement emphasised that the police force operates on the principles of neutrality, integrity, and professionalism. They reiterated that Mohd Khalid has never been a member of, or held any position in, any political party as alleged in the article. 'The statement is false, misleading, and creates a negative perception that casts doubt on the credibility of the national security force,' they said. Kamaruzaman added that the police would not tolerate any attempts to undermine public trust in its officers or operations. Yesterday, PKR has clarified that Mohd Khalid has never been a member of PKR, let alone held any position within the party. PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said that the circulation of an inaccurate profile linking the IGP to a political party could undermine his image and credibility. She added that it could also fuel negative perceptions of PKR as the ruling party if members of the public believe that Mohd Khalid's appointment was politically motivated. Mohd Khalid — who succeeded Tan Sri Razarudin Husein — began his policing career in 1987 and has served in various key roles including deputy director of Special Branch, the police intelligence division, and as security liaison officer in London. Prior to his new appointment, the 60-year-old served as director of the Special Branch and retired on April 8 but was reappointed on a contract basis from that date until now.
