India Today12-06-2025

July is going to be a busy month for smartphone launches in India. From mid-range devices to premium flagships, at least eight new smartphones are expected to launch in July — some already confirmed, others heavily rumoured. Either way, it's clear that brands aren't planning to take a break anytime soon. Also, this isn't just about one brand or one segment. We're talking phones ranging from around Rs 20,000 all the way up to the ultra-premium Rs 2 lakh mark.advertisementWhether you're in the market for an affordable upgrade or a top-tier foldable, there's something on the way for everyone. And so, if you're planning to buy a new phone, you might want to hold off just a little longer. Here's a look at all the big upcoming launches expected this July. Let's dive in.Nothing Phone (3)After a two-year gap, Nothing is finally ready with its next flagship — the Phone (3), officially launching worldwide on July 1. This will be the company's first high-end device since the Phone (2) came out in 2023. While Nothing has been busy with its more affordable Phone (3a) and CMF lineups, the Phone (3) is expected to mark a return to the premium space.
Carl Pei has already hinted that the Phone (3) won't come cheap, with a possible price of around 800 Pounds (roughly Rs 93,000). However, if past launches are any indication, Indian pricing should be more competitive. Expect the starting price of the phone to be around Rs 70,000.advertisementIn terms of design, an early render shared via Max Jambor on X (formerly Twitter), shows a departure from the usual Glyph Interface lighting — it might be gone altogether — though the transparent back could remain. The phone is said to feature a 6.77-inch AMOLED display with 3,000 nits peak brightness, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, and a triple rear camera setup, including a 50-megapixel primary sensor along with a 32-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calls.Vivo X Fold 5 and X200 FEVivo is rumoured to launch two new smartphones in India on July 10 — the X Fold 5 and X200 FE. While there's no official confirmation yet, both phones have shown up in leaks and certification listings, suggesting an announcement is just around the corner. In fact, the X Fold 5 has been officially confirmed to launch in China on June 25.The Vivo X200 FE is expected to be a rebranded version of the S30 Pro Mini, which recently launched in China. It is expected to feature a 6.31-inch OLED display, 120Hz refresh rate, and possibly a MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ or 9400e chipset. The phone may also feature a 50-megapixel Sony IMX921 main camera, a 50-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x zoom, and a 50-megapixel front camera. Other expected features include a 6,500mAh battery, 90W fast charging, and an IP69 rating.advertisementThe Vivo X Fold 5, on the other hand, is Vivo's answer to Samsung's premium foldables. It's said to pack an 8.03-inch inner AMOLED screen, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, and a 6,000mAh battery. Vivo might also lower the price this time around, making it one of the more tempting foldables in the ultra-premium space. Interestingly, Vivo has also teased that the upcoming flagship foldable will feature compatibility with a range of Apple devices and services, including the Apple Watch and iCloud.OnePlus Nord 5 and Nord CE 5OnePlus is likely to unveil the Nord 5 and Nord CE 5 in India soon, with July 8 being the rumoured date. While the company hasn't officially confirmed anything yet, tipster Yogesh Brar previously mentioned the date on X, though the post has since been deleted. That said, leaks have already given us a good idea of what to expect. The phone is expected to launch in the second week of July. The OnePlus Nord 5 is expected to offer a major upgrade over its predecessor. Rumours suggest the phone could be powered by the powerful MediaTek Dimensity 9400e chip, a large 7,000mAh battery, and support for 100W fast charging. The phone might also feature a flat AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The camera setup could include a 50-megapixel main sensor and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, similar to the Nord 4.advertisementMeanwhile, the OnePlus Nord CE 5 is tipped to feature a 6.7-inch AMOLED display, Dimensity 8350 processor, and a slightly larger 7,100mAh battery with 80W fast charging. Pricing is expected to stay competitive, with the Nord 5 likely priced under Rs 35,000 and the Nord CE 5 around Rs 25,000.Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7 and Z Flip 7 FESamsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and, for the first time, a more affordable Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE at its next Galaxy Unpacked event, tipped for July 10. Yes, this is the same date which is also rumoured to be the India launch date for Vivo's upcoming devices, mentioned above. Nevertheless, there's no official word yet, but most likely, July is the month when we expect Samsung to unveil its three foldables at its Galaxy Unpacked event — possibly alongside a teaser for the triple-fold Galaxy G Fold.advertisementStarting with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, this one's expected to be sleeker and lighter than ever before. While the design changes are likely to be subtle, Samsung could be focusing on making this the thinnest Fold yet. Rumours suggest the phone could be as slim as 3.9mm when unfolded. It's also tipped to come in silver, black, and blue colours. As for the Galaxy Z Flip 7, it may bring a slightly larger cover screen this year, with an Exynos chip powering the phone — a change from the usual Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. The Galaxy ZFlip 7 is rumoured to come in black, blue, and coral red colours, and just like last year, we may see 256GB and 512GB storage options, both paired with 12GB RAM.The big surprise this year could be the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE — Samsung's first-ever Fan Edition foldable. If rumours are accurate, this model could retain the core Flip experience while offering it at a more affordable price. Storage variants might include 128GB and 256GB, and it's said to launch in black and white colours.

Bad news for employees of this company as it plans to sack over 1000 employees, not Narayana Murthy's Infosys, TCS, Google, IBM

(Representational image: freepik) New Delhi: American multinational corporation and IT giant Microsoft Corporation will cut more than 1000 jobs as the conglomerate is rearranging its staff to support its ambitious Artificial Intelligence initiatives. This will be Microsoft's third significant layoff wave of 2025. Most of the jobs that will be eliminated in early July will be from the sales department. Microsoft's new fiscal year This particular time of early July coincides with the beginning of the company's new fiscal year, according to Bloomberg and the Times of India. As mentioned above, Microsoft is reshuffling its staff to support its ambitious Artificial Intelligence initiatives for which it is doubling down on efficiency and strategic realignment as AI investments mount up. Sales Division in third round of layoffs This third round of layoffs is considerably more focused on customer-facing positions than the earlier two rounds, which were mainly focused on engineers and developers. The most affected would be the employees in Sales and Marketing department which accounts for about 45,000 of Microsoft's 228,000 workers. In the first two rounds of layoffs, Microsoft fired around 2,300 employees in Washington this year. Earlier in 2023, the company had fired 3,200 people, which was the biggest layoffs round. Reportedly, Microsoft had dropped a hint about this move in June 2024 as it relieved 1,000 mixed-reality and Azure roles. Apart from that, the company started selling software to outside companies in April as it concentrated on small and mid-sized business sectors. Experts say that apart from the sales positions, other departments might also be impacted. In May, the company had laid off more than 6,000 people in a 3% cut of its workforce. Out of which 1,985 employees affected were from Washington. Investments in realm of Artificial Intelligence In the proverbial 'keeping up with the times' and adapting to current trends, Microsoft is now emphasising more on AI as it tries to stay ahead in a fast-changing technology landscape. The tech giant is investing heavily into data centres and AI research to support growing demand from businesses that are adopting AI tools and services. The Bloomberg report further said that Microsoft has planned capital expenditure of around Rs 6.6 lakh crore ($80 billion) for the ongoing financial year. A big chunk of this expenditure will go into expanding data centre infrastructure as the aim is to reduce pressure on existing facilities that support AI services. Layoffs in the tech sector are continuously troubling IT professionals. Recently, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has warned that the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the corporate workforce will eventually lead to job cuts. After the COVID-19 pandemic, big tech companies like Amazon, Meta and Google laid off thousands of workers to reduce their staff. Now, another tech giant, Microsoft, has given a live, sombre, and somewhat gloomy presentation.

Nothing Phone 3 To Debut With Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 And Major Updates

Last Updated: Nothing Phone 3, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset, launches in India on July 1. In less than two weeks from now, Nothing will launch its Nothing Phone 3 smartphone in the international market. The UK brand has been teasing key details about the upcoming device on social media. Recently, Nothing co-founder and Head of Marketing Akis Evangelidis hinted towards the software update policy of the company for the new handset. It would mean that the tech brand is looking forward to providing the longest software support for Nothing Phone 3. On X, Evangelidis shared that the upcoming smartphone will be the company's 'first true flagship and a major step up from Phone (2)". For this, they have opted for the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset, which he stated was 'Qualcomm's latest top-tier chip with an all–big core setup, making it even more efficient." Phone (3) is our first true flagship and a major step up from Phone (2).For it we went with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 – Qualcomm's latest top-tier chip with an all–big core setup, making it even more efficient. Paired with all the optimisations we've made in Nothing OS, the… — Akis Evangelidis (@AkisEvangelidis) June 17, 2025 In the comments section, one X user asked why they did not go for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. In reply, Evangelidis wrote, '8 Gen 3 has a weaker GPU, NPU, connectivity and ISP – and default software support is 4 & 4. Phone (3) will have 5 & 7." While Evangelidis did not provide enough details, his post indicates Nothing Phone 3 will be made available with '5 and 7" software update and not '4 and 4". This means the new smartphone will receive five years of Android OS updates as well as seven years of security patches. If it happens, this would mark a major upgrade over the earlier software support cycles. The Nothing Phone 2, which came out in 2023, offered three years of major Android updates along with four years of security updates. The company assured that the recent Nothing Phone 3a Pro will have three years of Android upgrades and six years of security updates. Notably, tech giants like Google and Samsung have been offering seven generations of Android upgrades with their flagship devices. Meanwhile, Evangelidis has teased that the image quality on Nothing Phone 3 is getting a 'big upgrade with the new Spectra 18-bit Triple ISP." 'It allows for real-time segmentation of up to 12 layers and helps separate and enhance different elements in your photos – so you'll see much better detail, colour accuracy, etc," he added. Nothing Phone 3 will be launched in global markets, including India, on July 1, 2025. Fans can buy it on Flipkart in the country.
