Eega makers issue copyright infringement notice to Lovely team
The makers of SS Rajamouli's 2012 film Eega have sent a notice to the team behind the Malayalam film Lovely, which released this May, alleging 'unauthorised use of copyrighted character.
' Lovely, directed by
Dileesh Nair
and featuring
Mathew Thomas
, features a housefly, the design of which the Telugu filmmakers claim has been stolen from their film. Lovely features a housefly by the same name who befriends a youngster who has been wrongfully imprisoned.
What the notice says?
In the legal notice, Eega makers allege that the housefly design is their sole property and, "Our client (the production house) holds exclusive rights to all visual, artistic, and narrative elements of the film (Eega), including the said character.
Any reproduction or imitation of this character, without our client's explicit consent, constitutes copyright infringement under said law."
They claim, "The central character, a reincarnated housefly, was conceived and developed through advanced VFX methodologies including macro photography, anatomical modelling and behavioural studies of real flies. These visual effects were led by professionals including RC Kamalakannan and Pete Draper of Makuta VFX, establishing the housefly as a unique and recognisable creation owned solely by our client (the production house).

How can one say that we can't use anything in housefly category as a character? Dileesh Nair
Speaking to us, Dileesh Nair said, "How can one say that we can't use anything in the housefly category as a character? We have all the properties related to the development of this character, including the mesh. Also, Eega was released in 2012. Why would we take an outdated model? There is a big difference in quality (of the visuals of the housefly). We will respond to the notice suitably.
Stating that the character announcement for the housefly was made two years back, the director adds, "They are demanding royalty from our film's revenue, but it didn't do that well theatrically. Filing a suit this close to OTT release of the film seems like a planned move to us."

Meghan Markle gets slammed for her 'too runny' jam; gets questioned about the ingredients
Meghan Markle , the Duchess of Sussex, recently launched her 'Summer Drop' with new products and restocks of her lifestyle brand, As Ever. The 43-year-old proudly endorsed her brand new apricot jam, only to get negative feedback just after a couple of hours of sale. Meghan Markle's jam is too... According to Daily Mail, the critics of the food industry aren't holding back when it comes to the actress' brand-new launch. Donna Collins, the champion who has won more than 40 jam-making competitions, called Markle's apricot jam - 'too runny' - and proceeded to insult further by calling the product - a fruit spread - which in the chef's terms is something that is a failure. 'It's a real disappointment that Meghan is selling a fruit spread, which is what you make when your jam fails. In the jam industry, a spread is what we call something that didn't work,' Collins said, before adding, 'It can have the best ingredients, but if I had a jam that was too runny, I'd slap a label on it and call it a spread. There's no excuse for this. It should be perfect.' Donna Collins questions the ingredients... Furthermore, Meghan's brand was further ripped apart when the jam champion asked about the ingredients used to make the summer product. Collins questioned, 'Why should she include conventionally grown apricots, which will have used pesticides?' 'And why is she using pectin, which is a gelling agent, unless it's because her spread was too runny? Most spreads don't use pectin,' she said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo When Meghan launched her brand in April by introducing raspberry jam, the netizens trolled her for debuting something that is ill-suited for spreading on bread or a toast. As the excited fans tried to buy the products during the summer sale, they were disappointed to learn that the apricot jam had already sold out. "They really don't know what they are doing.' 'Her apricot spread sold out in minutes, just like her earlier raspberry spread, which may mean they only made a small batch,' Donna Collins said, and added, 'I don't know who's making her spread, but we all know it's not Meghan. It sounds like they really don't know what they are doing.'

Sonakshi Sinha supports Deepika Padukone's 8-hour shift demand, reacts to her exit from Spirit: 'It's very fair reason'
The debate around a structured work environment and an eight-hour shift for actors began in the industry after Deepika Padukone reportedly exited Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit due to her demands for the same not being met. Since then, many actors have weighed in on the issue. Now, in an interview with India Today, Sonakshi Sinha has also backed Deepika, stating that everyone needs time for themselves. Sonakshi Sinha reacts to Deepika Padukone's 8-hour shift demand. Supporting Deepika, Sonakshi said she's fully in favour of the eight-hour work shift and, reacting to Deepika's reported exit from Spirit, added, "I don't even know if it's true or not. But if it is, it's a very fair reason. I've worked with actors who don't work beyond eight hours. So, I don't see why it should be any different for female actors as well. It also depends on the requirements of the project and all. You can schedule it in a way that accommodates those hours. There are a lot of other things to shoot with other people, which you can finish off in the same time. I think it's very achievable." She said that in her 15 years in the industry, she has met actors who worked less than her and sometimes actors who worked longer hours, and added, "That's fine. But like, you do need time for yourself beyond the shoot as well. Today, if I'm doing a film where I'm required to be extremely fit, I need those two hours to go to the gym. Well, if you put me on set for 12 to 14 hours, I won't be able to do it. If I don't need to do that, I'll give you 12 hours happily. I'll give you 10 hours happily. But where it's not required, then I'm sure adjustments can be made.' Deepika had reportedly made a few demands before exiting Vanga's Spirit, which included an eight-hour workday, a share in the film's profits, and not speaking her dialogues in Telugu. The director reportedly declined these requests. Later, Deepika was replaced by Triptii Dimri as the lead opposite Prabhas. Sonakshi Sinha's upcoming movie Sonakshi will next be seen in Nikita Roy, directed by her brother and debutant filmmaker Kussh S Sinha. The supernatural thriller also stars Paresh Rawal, Arjun Rampal and Suhail Nayyar in key roles and is scheduled for theatrical release on 27 June 2025. The film is set to clash at the box office with Kajol's horror film Maa, backed by Ajay Devgn.
