UAE issues warning over Iran-Israel war

Abu Dhabi – A senior United Arab Emirates official has urged a quick end to the Iran-Israel war, warning of a 'difficult aftermath' if the conflict is prolonged. Anwar Gargash, diplomatic advisor to the oil-rich UAE's President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, said the war was 'setting back' the wealthy Gulf region. 'The longer a war takes, the more dangerous it becomes,' he told journalists in a briefing on Friday. 'I think any extended confrontation or war between Israel and Iran will only bring a very difficult aftermath.' US President Donald Trump has given Iran a 'maximum' of two weeks to negotiate before possible US air strikes, but Tehran said it would not hold talks while under attack. 'De-escalation is extremely important,' Gargash said. 'We still feel that there is a path back to negotiations on these issues.' The Middle East is still dealing with the repercussions of the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq, which toppled Saddam Hussein but left the country divided and destabilised. One major risk of the current war is disruption to the Strait of Hormuz between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula, which carries one-fifth of global oil output. 'This war flies in the face of the regional order the Gulf countries want to build, which is focused on regional prosperity,' Gargash said. 'We feel that this is setting us back, not only us in the UAE, but I would say the region.'

Iraq urges US to prevent Israeli Airspace violations

Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs renewed its call on Saturday for the United States to take urgent action to prevent Israeli aircraft from violating Iraqi airspace. According to a statement by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, during a meeting with Steven H. Fagin, the chargé d'affaires at the US Embassy in Baghdad, the Deputy Foreign Minister for Bilateral Relations, Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al-Uloom, expressed Baghdad's deep concern over what he described as repeated Israeli incursions into Iraqi skies. 'A recent breach of sovereignty was recorded on Friday, when Israeli warplanes reportedly flew over the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala, continuing southward.' Bahr Al-Uloom stressed that the infringement 'not only undermines Iraq's sovereignty but also poses a direct threat to civil aviation safety,' particularly over Basra International Airport, which is currently the primary air gateway for returning stranded Iraqi citizens and outbound travelers. 'This is a matter of national security and the safety of civilian air traffic,' he emphasized. He also urged the US to 'take all necessary measures to halt these violations and enhance Iraq's capacity to deter threats to its sovereignty, territory, and airspace,' citing the 2008 US-Iraq Strategic Framework Agreement as the foundation for cooperation on such matters.

Reports: Israel kills Nasrallah's aide and Iraqi commander in Tehran

Shafaq News/ Hussein Khalil, a longtime aide to former Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Tehran along with a senior Iraqi commander, according to media reports on Saturday. Widely known as 'Abu Ali Khalil,' he had recently relocated from Iraq to Iran prior to the strike. Hezbollah has yet to confirm or deny the assassination. The same strike allegedly killed Haidar al-Moussawi, a senior commander in Iraq's Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada, an Iran-backed faction. A source familiar with the group told Shafaq News that al-Moussawi was in charge of its operations in Syria. Israel has not officially acknowledged the operation. However, it coincides with the ninth straight day of Israeli airstrikes targeting high-value assets inside Iran. In response, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has continued to launch waves of missiles and drones since June 13.
