ILT20 advance fourth season start to Eid Al Etihad day

KUUMAR SHYAM (ABU DHABI)Cricket fans in the UAE will be treated to a double delight of the country's flagship tournament – the DP World International League T20 (ILT20) season – this year after the dates for the fourth season were announced.In a busy period towards the turn of the calendar year in the cricket world, the private promoters of the ILT20 have decided to start the month-long fourth edition from December 2, the occasion of Eid Al Etihad.The decision to postpone had an added sense of urgency because the ICC Men's T20 World Cup is scheduled to be played in February-March next year, and before that, the premier domestic T20 leagues of South Africa and Australia are held in overlap with the ILT20 as usual.Having held the first three seasons across the January-February window, this means that the year 2025 will go down in the tournament's short history as the one with two tournaments and Dubai Capitals will return again in the same year to defend their title. The fourth season, comprising 34 matches and six teams as usual, will conclude with the final on January 4.Khalid Al Zarooni, the league chairman of ILT20 and Vice Chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board, said through a statement: "We are delighted to confirm that the DP World International League T20 Season 4 will commence on Eid Al Etihad, which is one of the most important days on the UAE calendar."It is the occasion, he said, when "we celebrate the UAE, which is home to people from around the world, including millions of diehard cricket fans. It is a real honour for us to join the nation in the celebrations with the launch of the region's biggest T20 league on the same day."David White, the Chief Executive Officer of the league, added, "Following extensive discussions with all our stakeholders, we believe the tournament window is ideal... as it will allow the players playing both in the DP World ILT20 and the T20 World Cup to prepare for national duty. In addition, we feel that the December-January window will provide the teams' the best opportunity to access a bigger pool of players."
'Season 3 was a big success with outstanding broadcast and digital numbers as the fans enjoyed a step-up in the quality of cricket. We are now fully focused on making an even bigger impact for the next season,' White added.

Mathews bids farewell to Tests, eyes T20 World Cup glory
Former Sri Lankan skipper, Angelo Mathews made his final appearance in royal whites against Bangladesh at Galle, the same venue he made his debut in 2009. Mathews is the second-highest run scorer at the venue with 2253 runs in 34 Test matches. While speaking in the post-match press conference, he spoke on the draw against Bangladesh, his final appearance in the red-ball format for Sri Lanka. 'Once you get a 400 in the first innings, it's really difficult to lose a game. So we had to bat really well in our first innings as well. 'I thought we scrapped our way through and to minimize the lead. And also in the second innings, Shanto batted brilliantly.' Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 148 and 125* in both the innings as he led from the front and secured himself the Player of the Match award. 'It was a tough wicket for the bowlers, to be honest. There were times where it turned a little bit but didn't really have anything for the bowlers,' Mathews said, speaking on the wicket and opportunities for the bowlers. 'We could have pushed for a win, but unfortunately, we couldn't.' While Mathews stepped away from the longest format, he spoke on his World Cup aspirations in the shorter formats of the game. 'I've still got six more months to go. I'll give it my best shot for the (2026) T20 World Cup.' 'I would love to sign off with a World Cup win. I'll just see how my body goes.' Mathews was a part of the side which won the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2014, beating India in the final. The 38-year-old addressed the love he's received since he announced his retirement last month. 'I'm overwhelmed. 'Ever since I announced my retirement, I just can't imagine the love that I have received up to now.' 'It is so special because you feel as a player, once you give your 110% to the country, the amount of appreciation that you receive is unbelievable. 'It feels so special, very heartwarming and I'm so thankful to all of them.' While Mathews has retired from Tests, he will continue to remain available in the white-ball format.

ILT20, KCB enter strategic partnership for growth of the sport in Kuwait
The DP World International League T20 and the Kuwait Cricket Board have entered an exciting partnership for the growth of the sport in Kuwait. Through the partnership the DP World ILT20 will organise cricket matches in the country which will be aimed at identifying and developing the participating players. The agreement between the Kuwait Cricket Board and DP World ILT20 was inked at a signing ceremony organised recently at the Dubai International Stadium. As per the agreement, a domestic event like the DP World ILT20 UAE Development Tournament, will be conducted annually in Kuwait to provide the players from Kuwait an opportunity to get selected by ILT20 franchises for the main DP World ILT20 event. In the coming years, the league will also aim to host DP World ILT2o matches in Kuwait. 'We are very proud to announce our collaboration with Kuwait Cricket Board as they join our league [DP World ILT20]. It is a great honour for us, and we look forward to many more such collaborations in the future. Kuwait is very important to us; it is a great country and keen on promoting and further developing cricket," said Khalid Al Zarooni, Chairman ILT20 and Vice-Chairman Emirates Cricket Board. Positive gains for South African players in ICC Men's Test Rankings
The new ICC World Test Champions, South Africa, are basking in their glory, as multiple members of their team rise in the ICC Men's Test Player Rankings. Leading the charge is Player of the Match from the final at Lord's, Aiden Markram. The batting hero has risen seven places to just outside the top-10 in the ICC Men's Test Batting Rankings, with only two points separating him from New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell (725) in 10th. Markram scored a crucial and match-winning 136 runs off 207 balls in a masterful display of Test batting to help take South Africa across the line in the WTC Final. His equally vital wickets for South Africa have also been rewarded in the Test All-Rounders Rankings, seeing him ascend a whopping 44 places. David Bedingham, who closed the famous win for South Africa, also made a move of note in the Batting Rankings, climbing 17 places to joint 40 alongside Cameron Green. Meanwhile, South Africa fast bowler Lungi Ngidi, who produced an inspirational spell with the ball during Australia's second innings, has also advanced seven slots in the Bowling Rankings. In the ODI Player Rankings, key performers from the Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 action have boasted impressive climbs. Netherlands' top-order batter Michael Levitt, who was also handy with the ball, has soared 22 places in the Batting Rankings to go with a climb of 21 among the bowlers and another 27 in the all-rounders charts. Levitt also leapt 11 places in the T20I batting charts to the 30th spot in the tri-series after League 2 play, just below Pakistan's Mohammad Haris. His teammate Noah Croes also jumped 20 places in the Men's ODI Batting Rankings after making a vital fifty from the four-wicket win against Scotland.
