The Illini are the surprise of the conference so far with their 2026 recruiting class. But it will fall flat if it doesn't land the four-star in-state tight end.

After a magical season in 2025 the Hoosiers need to lock down more four-star talent. The in-state defensive lineman would give a major boost to recruiting efforts.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH INDIANA FANS AT THEHOOSIER.COM
The Hawkeyes already hold a verbal from the California signal-caller. But keeping him committed is huge since he was the top quarterback target of offensive coordinator Tim Lester.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH IOWA FANS AT HAWKEYEBEACON.COM
When the Terps landed an early commitment from Elee it shocked everyone. Holding onto him and getting him to sign would be a signature recruiting win for the program.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH MARYLAND FANS AT TERRAPINSPORTSREPORT.COM
Sadler is the perfect fit for making the Wolverines' offensive attack more dynamic. Keeping him home would send a message about what skill recruits think about the direction of the program.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH MICHIGAN FANS AT MAIZEANDBLUEREVIEW.COM
The four-star offensive lineman has ties to the program and coach Jonathan Smith has been recruiting him hard for a long time. Landing the in-state lineman over Michigan, Penn State and Notre Dame would be massive.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH MICHIGAN STATE FANS AT SPARTANSILLUSTRATED.COM
It feels like the four-star safety is destined to play in the Big Ten. So keeping him away from rivals and landing a talented defensive back would be huge for the Gophers.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH MINNESOTA FANS AT THEGOPHERREPORT.COM
The talented running back has game-breaking ability but is also from a familiar high school to Nebraska fans. The Huskers also need to continue expanding the pipeline in Missouri.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH NEBRASKA FANS AT INSIDENEBRASKA.COM
Jackson is a two-way standout that could play receiver or safety in college. Pulling him out of Nebraska would be a major coup for the Wildcats.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH NORTHWESTERN FANS AT WILDCATREPORT.COM
The one nitpick about the Buckeyes' recruiting efforts is they don't land enough game-changing defensive linemen. Geralds is a contender to join the class and he'd fit the bill.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH OHIO STATE FANS AT DOTTINGTHEEYES.COM
The Ducks are in the hunt with several elite offensive linemen this cycle. But the one who would make the biggest splash on and off the field is Cantwell.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH OREGON FANS AT DUCKSPORTSAUTHORITY.COM
Penn State already has a few receiver commits but needs the cherry on top of a good potential haul. Snagging Brown over Georgia and Michigan would be huge.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH PENN STATE FANS AT HAPPYVALLEYINSIDER.COM
Bardo is one of the top prospects in Indiana this cycle and has a lot of potential upside when he gets to college.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH PURDUE FANS AT BOILERUPLOAD.COM
It's been since the 2012 recruiting cycle since Rutgers landed the top prospect in New Jersey. Wafle would buck that staggering trend.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH RUTGERS FANS AT THEKNIGHTREPORT.COM
It's going to be hard for the Bruins to pass Oregon or Ohio State for the defender but he's exactly what the Bruins need to change perceptions in-state.
The Trojans have been the perceived leader for Lyons for much of his recruitment. Getting him in the class before his religious mission would be massive.
Washington doesn't get a ton of four-stars in the state so the Huskies need to make them count. Colman-Brusa could be a cornerstone of the 2026 class.
SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH WASHINGTON FANS AT DAWGREPORT.COM
The Badgers have made the four-star from Ohio a major priority. Landing him over Ohio State, Michigan and others would show a positive trajectory for the program.

Loaded Iowa football offensive line boasts Big Ten's top returning tackle Gennings Dunker
The 2025 season for the Iowa Hawkeyes may run through the offensive line. The veteran group of linemen is loaded with Logan Jones at center, Connor Colby next to him, and Gennings Dunker as well. The group has experience, talent, and confidence from last season, where they paved the way for more than 2,500 rushing yards and opened up lanes for Kaleb Johnson on his way to an All-American year as the 2024 Big Ten Running Back of the Year. The trio could be the heart and soul of Tim Lester's offense with quarterback transfer Mark Gronowski under center. Fortunately, for Gronowski, he will have the best returning Big Ten offensive tackle protecting him in Genning Dunker. Dunker has topped Pro Football Focus' list of the highest-graded returning offensive tackles in the Big Ten ahead of 2025. Gennings Dunker enters his fourth season with Iowa and has 25 starts to his name after starting each game he was healthy over the last two years. The 2024 season saw him earn Second-Team All-Big Ten Honors from the coaches and Associated Press. A classic case of development, like so many Iowa Hawkeyes' success stories, Dunker was a three-star recruit from Lena Winslow High School in Lena, Illinois. As part of the class of 2021, he was the No. 38 interior offensive lineman, the No. 15 recruit in Illinois, and the No. 535 overall recruit, per 247Sports. How Illinois coach Bret Bielema responded to an SEC quarterback's shots at the Big Ten
College football has seen sweeping changes the last few years. One of them, Illinois coach Bret Bielema believes, is an end to the notion of the Southeastern Conference's supremacy. Appearing at Wrigley Field on Tuesday for Illini Night, Bielema responded to shots that Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia took at the Big Ten on a podcast earlier that day. Pavia, who transferred from New Mexico State last year and led the Commodores to their first winning season in 11 years and an upset of Alabama, joined former NFL players Will Compton and Taylor Lewan on their 'Bussin' With the Boys' podcast. Most of the conversation was about Pavia's journey, but he took a jab at the Big Ten, including specific schools, when asked about potential transfers this offseason. 'You want to play with the best, you don't want to play in the Big Ten,' Pavia told Big Ten alumni Compton (Nebraska) and Lewan (Michigan). 'You ignore those calls. You've got to think about this too: The SEC is like nothing (else). The Big Ten, you have Ohio State, Oregon, Michigan, Penn State. The SEC, you've got all dogs. 'You only have four (tough) games a year (in the Big Ten). In the SEC, it's week after week you're getting beat on. You ain't getting beat on by the Purdues or Nebraskas.' Vanderbilt last faced a Big Ten program in 2019 — losing 42-24 to Purdue. Bielema caught wind of Pavia's comments and defended his conference. 'I understand what he's saying — he's regurgitating what's being said to him,' Bielema said. 'I think any given Saturday, anybody can beat anybody.' Bielema, who has coached in both conferences at Wisconsin, Arkansas and Illinois, pointed out that the SEC has no returning quarterbacks who led their team to 10-plus wins last season, while two of the Big Ten's five 10-plus-win teams return their starter: Penn State with Drew Allar and the Illini with Luke Altmyer. Big Ten teams went 6-4 last season against SEC teams, including a 5-1 mark in the postseason that included Illinois' Citrus Bowl victory over South Carolina. The Big Ten also boasts the last two national champions (Ohio State and Michigan) after SEC teams won 13 of the previous 17 national titles. 'The last three years, the evolution of college football with the portal and NIL has created a leveled playing field never seen before,' Bielema said. 'A lot of people want to live in the past and try to stay by the rules of the past, (but) I don't see any part of (that in) our future.' Bielema also noted that SEC coaches have pushed back against adding a ninth conference game as well as the idea of an annual 'challenge series' of games versus Big Ten teams. 'We voted unanimously as Big Ten coaches to stay at nine (conference games) and maybe have an SEC challenge,' Bielema said. 'I was told that (the SEC) voted unanimously to stay at eight and not play the Big Ten.' While the two conferences might not see eye to eye on who's No. 1, there's no denying the SEC and Big Ten view themselves as the best two conferences. In recent College Football Playoff discussions, they initially proposed that each get four automatic qualifiers for a 16-team playoff beginning in 2026, with two each for the ACC and Big 12, one for the highest-ranked champion from other conferences and three at-large berths. After pushback from the ACC and Big 12 — who proposed five automatic bids for conference champs plus 11 at-large spots — the CFP reportedly will 'start over' in format talks with a Dec. 1 deadline to solidify the 2026 playoff structure. 'These two leagues can beat anybody on any given Saturday,' Bielema said, 'and that's the part I'd like to see. I'd like it to be the best 16 teams. I don't think we can do a 16-team playoff if (the SEC is) not at nine (conference) games. Until you get to nine for everybody, I don't think it can work.' The 2025 season features a Week 1 game between Texas and host Ohio State. The rematch of a CFP semifinal, which the Buckeyes won 28-14 in the Cotton Bowl, is sure to refuel the conference supremacy debate.

Ranking all 18 Big Ten fight songs from worst to first
Nothing captures the environment of a college football Saturday quite like the school band playing the fight song. Whether it's heard pregame at a pep rally, in-game at a stadium, or through the television set, the tones of the winning team's fight song become synonymous with the game itself. For a successful team, the song initiates a celebration after each scoring play. On the other side, fans of the losing team quickly grow tired of the opponent's mic'd-up band performing the same tones after every score. As we've outlined over the last few weeks, the 18-program Big Ten Conference boasts some of college football's oldest and most famous venues, its best uniforms and some of its classic helmets. The conference's fight songs are no exception. Other than Tennessee's "Rocky Top," Notre Dame's "Notre Dame Victory March" and Texas A&M's "Aggie War Hymn," there's an argument that the Big Ten boasts nearly all of the sport's top tunes. For specifics, here is a full ranking of the Big Ten's 18 fight songs, ordered worst to best. 18. Northwestern Wildcats: "Go U, Northwestern" Northwestern begins our ranking with a strong fight song, displaying the conference's depth in this regard. Since the lyrics are mostly similar throughout, this ranking only focuses on the tune. Does it fulfill the criteria of classic and catchy? This one at least does okay with the latter. 17. Indiana Hoosiers: "Indiana, Our Indiana" Indiana's fight song isn't memorable. The football program might be to blame for that reality. While the song has a strong tune, it hasn't been correlated with much success over the last three decades, or ever. 16. Nebraska Cornhuskers: "Hail Varsity" Nebraska's fight song leaves a lot to be desired. It blends in with many others in the conference and across the sport. That doesn't make it a 'bad' song. The song just isn't differentiated from the Big Ten's best. Get more (Nebraska) news, analysis and opinions on Cornhuskers Wire 15. Maryland Terrapins: "Maryland Fight Song" As noted previously, this slot does not argue that Maryland has a 'bad' fight song. It just doesn't compare favorably to others across the conference. It is downgraded for not having a real name, which is an important data point. 14. Iowa Hawkeyes: "Iowa Fight Song" Iowa's fight song is also downgraded due to the lack of a unique name. It is a bit more catchy than Maryland's song, though it isn't as exciting as other top songs in the conference. Get more (Iowa) news, analysis and opinions on Hawkeyes Wire 13. Washington Huskies: "Bow Down To Washington" Washington's song is unique -- its pacing differs from the large group of songs in this ranking that all sound similar. The Huskies deserve credit in that regard. Still, it has a ways to go before it becomes a Big Ten classic. Get more (Washington) news, analysis and opinions on Huskies Wire 12. Rutgers Scarlet Knights: "The Bells Must Ring" Rutgers has one of the slower fight songs in the Big Ten. That works well for those trying to learn the words, although it doesn't generate the post-score excitement that some of the conference's other top songs do. 11. Illinois Fighting Illini: "Oskee-Wow-Wow" The song name is certainly unique. While this ranking works to ignore the specific lyrics, these must be mentioned. The song takes jabs at the others throughout the conference, noting that every other fight song uses the same cliché sayings. 10. Oregon Ducks: "Mighty Oregon" Oregon has a solid fight song. However, it faces an uphill battle as a new Big Ten member. A three-syllable 'Oregon' fits well into the song's pacing and tone. Get more (Oregon) news, analysis and opinions on Ducks Wire 9. Penn State Nittany Lions: "Fight On, State" Penn State's song is fast-paced and great for a post-touchdown celebration, which the program is familiar with. The slowed middle and quick finish are both big positives. This is a really strong fight song. Get more (Penn State) news, analysis and opinions on Nittany Lions Wire 8. Minnesota Golden Gophers: "Minnesota Rouser" Minnesota's song fits its name. The tune is quick, catchy and upbeat. It's a song that fans can easily sing along to, even if they don't know every word. 7. UCLA Bruins: "Sons of Westwood" UCLA's fight song has a simple and catchy tune that is easy to catch on to. All the song is missing is placement on a national stage, where a College Football Playoff or big-game broadcast ensures the band is mic'd up for every score. Get more (UCLA) news, analysis and opinions on UCLA Wire 6. Purdue Boilermakers: "Hail Purdue" Purdue has a fantastic fight song. The problem is that the program hasn't been able to play it much over the last few seasons. The slower middle section gives the song a strong pace, complementing a rousing chorus. 5. Michigan State Spartans: "Victory For MSU" Michigan State starts the Big Ten's elite tier of fight songs. The song's unique start blends well into the steady tune, giving fans a second or two before joining along. Like with some other top songs, a slow middle verse is a strong complement to the fast-paced chorus. Get more (Michigan State) news, analysis and opinions on Spartans Wire 4. Ohio State Buckeyes: "Buckeye Battle Cry" Ohio State's fight song is hard to forget, due to the program's annual place atop both the conference and the entire sport. The song itself falls far behind the conference's top three. It doesn't pick up until the chorus starts at the 0:40 mark. Get more (Ohio State) news, analysis and opinions on Buckeyes Wire 3. USC Trojans: "Fight On" Some others may put USC's fight song at the top of this list, partially due to its placement with some of the sport's biggest moments. The song itself is a classic. Its unique statement-and-response form is what leads it to this top-tier ranking. However, it still feels more like a Pac-12 song than a Big Ten staple. Get more (USC) news, analysis and opinions on Trojans Wire 2. Wisconsin Badgers: "On, Wisconsin!" Wisconsin's fight song is only No. 2 due to the top-end success of the top program on this list, which makes its fight song one of the sport's classics. 'On, Wisconsin!' is not far behind, however. The song is unique, catchy and upbeat. It represents what a great college fight song should sound like. 1. Michigan Wolverines: "The Victors" Michigan's fight song will likely hold the No. 1 spot on any sport-wide ranking. It's unique, catchy and, due to the program's success, an absolute classic.
