World's Largest Container Ship MSC IRINA To Dock At Vizhinjam Seaport

The MSC IRINA, recognised as the world's largest container ship by TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit) capacity, is set to dock at the Adani Group's Vizhinjam International Seaport on Monday and will be berthed till Tuesday.
The monumental arrival marks a significant milestone for the seaport, which was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 2.
The MSC IRINA boasts an impressive capacity of 24,346 TEUs, making it a formidable player in global shipping.
With a length of 399.9 metres and a width of 61.3 metres, the vessel is approximately four times longer than a standard FIFA-designated football field.
Designed specifically to facilitate the transportation of large volumes of containers between Asia and Europe, the MSC IRINA is pivotal in enhancing trade routes and logistics efficiency.
This vessel will be making its maiden visit to a South Asian port, highlighting Vizhinjam's capabilities in handling Ultra-Large Container Vessels (ULCVs).
The port, developed and operated by Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd, has recently welcomed other icon-class vessels, including MSC Turkiye and MSC Michel Cappellini, further establishing its reputation as a key hub in maritime trade.
The MSC IRINA was launched in March 2023 and embarked on its maiden voyage in April of the same year. It sails under the Liberian flag and is engineered to stack containers up to 26 tiers high, offering unparalleled capacity in container stacking.
Notably, the MSC IRINA surpasses its predecessor, OOCL Spain, by a margin of 150 TEUs.
In alignment with contemporary environmental standards, the vessel is equipped with energy-saving features that contribute to a reduction in carbon emissions by up to 4 per cent, significantly lowering its carbon footprint while maintaining operational efficiency.
The docking of the MSC IRINA at Vizhinjam International Seaport not only underscores the port's strategic importance in global shipping but also represents a leap forward in sustainable maritime practices, setting a benchmark for future developments in the industry.

Gujarat CM Patel announces Gujarat Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 22 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has announced the Gujarat Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy-2025 (GECMS-2025), further strengthening Gujarat's identity as a policy-driven state under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Aimed at transforming Gujarat into a global hub for electronics manufacturing, this new policy brings a significant advantage: projects approved and supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, will be eligible for 100 per cent central assistance when established in Gujarat. Hence, MeitY-approved projects set up in the state will receive dual incentive benefits, one from the Central Government and another from the State Government according to a press release. Thoroughly aligned with the Central Government's Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), Gujarat's GECMS-2025 ensures a 100 per cent top-up on central support and guarantees timely disbursement of assistance. Also, once a project receives approval under the ECMS from MeitY, it will automatically become eligible for the same grant-in-aid in Gujarat. The State Government will disburse its incentive within 30 days of the Central Government releasing its assistance. Gujarat has established itself as a leading manufacturing and automobile hub in India's industrial landscape. With four semiconductor plants now operational in the state, the newly announced policy will further strengthen the upstream industries. This development will reduce import dependency and improve technological resilience. The policy aims to attract over Rs 35,000 crore in new investments and create substantial high-skilled employment opportunities within the state's electronics component manufacturing sector. Unveiled by the Chief Minister, the policy will boost investment in key segments such as multi-layer and HDI printed circuit boards, lithium-ion cells, SMD passive components, display and camera modules, electronic parts, and the additional required machinery essential for their production. A core focus of the policy is to bridge the talent gap, promote innovation and offer support for Research and development initiatives. Recognised institutions based in Gujarat will be eligible for assistance of up to Rs 12.5 crore from the state government to establish Centres of Excellence, Finishing Schools, or Applied Research Laboratories. Additionally, under the GECMS, turnover-linked incentives will be provided for six years. (ANI)

Air India flights avoid Persian Gulf airspace amidst Israel-Iran conflict
New Delhi [India], June 22 (ANI): Air India on Sunday said that all its flights are currently avoiding certain airspaces over the Persian Gulf, amidst escalating tensions between Israel and Iran. An Air India spokesperson, in a statement, said the adjustment in route may lead to extended flight durations for services to destinations including the UAE, Qatar, Oman, and Kuwait, besides some flights to/from Europe and North America. 'Amid escalating tensions in the Gulf region, Air India group confirms that our flights currently do not operate over the airspaces of Iran, Iraq and Israel,' the Air India spokesperson said. As a proactive measure, Air India said it will be progressively avoiding the use of certain airspace over the Persian Gulf in the coming days, opting instead for alternative paths for flights to destinations including the UAE, Qatar, Oman, and Kuwait. 'This adjustment may lead to extended flight durations for these services, as well as for select flights to/from Europe and North America. Air India is in continuous consultation with our external security advisors and is vigilantly monitoring the evolving situation, ready to implement additional measures, if required, to uphold the safety and integrity of our operations. We will keep our passengers informed of any updates. The safety and security of our passengers, staff, and aircraft remain our number one priority,' the Air India spokesperson added in the brief statement. The conflict between Israel and Iran entered tenth day on Saturday, with the US now joining in support of Israel. India continues its evacuation efforts for Indian nationals in Iran. Multiple flights have been operated to bring back citizens from the conflict-hit region, and some more are in the offing. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday spoke with the President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, expressing deep concern at the recent escalations and calling for 'immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy.' New Delhi: After the US attacked three nuclear sites in Iran, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and expressed deep concern over the escalation in the Israel-Iran conflict. Taking to social media platform X, the prime minister said he reiterated India's call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy to restore peace. 'Spoke with President of Iran @drpezeshkian. We discussed in detail about the current situation. Expressed deep concern at the recent escalations. Reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability,' Modi said. The US on Saturday launched air strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities — Natanz, Fordo and Isfahan — sharply escalating tensions in West Asia. In a televised address on Sunday (India time), US President Donald Trump confirmed the direct assault on Iran's nuclear programme, ending days of speculation over Washington's entry into the Israel-Iran conflict. He warned that further strikes could follow. 'Remember, there are many targets left. Tonight was the most difficult of them all by far, and perhaps the most lethal. But if peace doesn't come quickly we will go to those other targets with precision, speed and skill," Trump said. Iran had earlier issued strong warnings against US involvement. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had cautioned that any American attack would cause 'irreparable damage.' India has deep strategic and economic ties with Iran, including its involvement in the development of Chabahar Port. A further escalation risks turmoil in global energy markets and could disrupt India's crude imports. The US intervention has also heightened fears of a wider regional war, as Iran has repeatedly threatened to block the Strait of Hormuz and target US bases and assets in the Gulf region. Several countries have called for de-escalation. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Sunday urged Iran to return to diplomacy following the US strikes. Meanwhile, media reports citing Washington-based group Human Rights Activists said Israeli strikes on Iran have killed at least 865 people and wounded 3,396 others.
