Foreign investors infuse Rs 1209 cr in Indian equities this week, net outflow in June stands at Rs 4192 cr: NSDL
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 21 (ANI): Foreign investment in the Indian equity market remained positive during the week from June 16 to June 20, though the net inflows declined compared to the previous week, as per the latest data released by the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL). According to the data, foreign investors made net inflows worth Rs 1,209 crore in Indian equities this week. The inflows were largely supported by significant buying activity on Wednesday and Friday. Market experts attributed this trend to foreign participation in several block deals offered during the week, along with notable inflows on Friday due to the FTSE rebalancing. Siddhartha Khemka, Head Research, Wealth Management, Motilal Oswal Financial Services told ANI 'FPI inflows this week has been driven by buying seen in several blocks offered during the week as well as large inflows on Friday due to FTSE rebalancing. Overall Indian economy stands strong driven by healthy economic growth multi year low inflation, rate cut by RBI as well as prospects of a above normal monsoon'. Despite the positive movement this week, foreign portfolio investment (FPI) flows for the month of June so far continue to remain in the negative. As of June 20, the net outflows by foreign investors stood at Rs 4,192 crore. However, this is an improvement from the previous week (ending June 13), when net outflows were higher at Rs 5,402 crore. This reduction in outflows reflects some signs of stabilization in FPI sentiment. Khemka added that the recent inflows are being driven by India's strong economic fundamentals. These factors are collectively boosting investor confidence and encouraging selective foreign investment, even amid global uncertainties. Looking ahead, he suggested that both global and domestic factors will influence FPI trends in the coming week. Key global triggers include geopolitical developments, fluctuations in crude oil prices amid tensions in middle east, and the approaching deadline for the imposition of US reciprocal tariffs. On the domestic front, important drivers will be macroeconomic indicators, institutional buying support, and sector-specific triggers such as monsoon progress, consumption trends, and infrastructure push. These elements are expected to determine stock specific movements and FPI behaviour in the short term. Earlier in May, the net foreign portfolio investment (FPI) inflows remained in positive and stood at Rs 19,860 crore, making May the best-performing month so far this year in terms of foreign investment. The previous months' data also showed that FPIs had sold stocks worth Rs 3,973 crore in March. In January and February, they had sold equities worth Rs 78,027 crore and Rs 34,574 crore, respectively. Union Minister Piyush Goyal welcoms safe return of Indian nationals evacuated from Iran under Op Sindhu
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 21 (ANI): Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday welcomed the safe return of Indian nationals evacuated from Iran under Operation Sindhu, a rescue mission launched by the Indian government amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel. 'Through Operation Sindhu, our Indian brothers and sisters stranded in Iran are being brought back. More than a thousand people have come back, I welcome all of them,' the Union Minister told reporters here. Goyal emphasised the importance of resolving issues through dialogue but warned that terrorist acts would be met with a strong response, leaving 'no stone unturned'. 'Also, as the Prime Minister says all the time, issues should be resolved through dialogue. But if someone does something wrong, if someone commits a terrorist act, no stone will be left unturned to give them a befitting reply. This is a warning to anyone who looks.' Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that so far, 517 Indian nationals have returned to India from Iran under Operation Sindhu. In a post on X, Jaiswal stated, 'Operation Sindhu continues. A special evacuation flight from Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, landed in New Delhi at 0300 hrs on 21st June, bringing Indians from Iran home. With this, so far 517 Indian nationals from Iran have returned home under Operation Sindhu.' The first batch of 110 Indian students, including 90 from Kashmir, was safely evacuated from northern Iran and transported to Armenia before being flown to New Delhi. These students were primarily from Urmia Medical University. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) coordinated the evacuation, setting up emergency helplines and a 24x7 control room to assist Indian citizens in Iran. The MEA spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, thanked the governments of Iran and Armenia for their cooperation. The rescued students expressed deep gratitude to the Narendra Modi-led government and Indian embassies in Iran and Armenia for their swift and safe evacuation. Goyal's remarks comes right after participating in the program organised to celebrate 11th International Yoga Day, highlighting how Yoga has reached so many corners of the world under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 'Today, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, yoga has reached every home, every city of the world. India has become an engine of development to take the whole world to new heights. Today, the whole world is looking towards Prime Minister Modi and India... I congratulate Prime Minister Modi on the 11th International Yoga Day,' Goyal said. Earlier today, a fresh batch of Indian nationals landed safely in Delhi after taking off from Iran under Operation Sindhu as part of the Centre's ongoing efforts to bring back its citizens from conflict-hit regions. The Indian Embassy in Tehran coordinated the safe movement of students, while the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) ensured their safe return. An Indian national who was evacuated from Iran, Zaffar Abbas Naqvi, recounted how he and his family stayed indoors initially after hearing about the attack on Iran. They later moved to Mashhad, which also came under attack, prompting them to contact the Indian government. Naqvi praised the swift action taken by the government and thanked Prime Minister Modi and UP CM Yogi Adityanath for their support. (ANI)

Yoga asanas and music: Nepal marks 11th International Yoga Day with zeal
Kathmandu [Nepal], June 21 (ANI): Marking the 11th edition of International Yoga Day, yoga practitioners of Nepal performed asanas followed by music to mark the day with fanfare and zeal. Hundreds of yoga practitioners, following their instructors, converged in Narayanchaur, marking the day. Celebrated globally on June 21 each year, the day aims to promote the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of yoga. 'On the 11th edition of the International Yoga Day, 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health' is this year's slogan for the day. The importance of Yoga is spreading far and wide. Yoga gives peace to the mind and is an exercise which is done in the early morning. As the day startsFrom morning, yoga should be performed and it makes our life prosperous,' Bikram Shakya, a yoga instructor from Lalitpur, told ANI. The United Nations General Assembly officially declared June 21 as International Yoga Day in 2014, following a proposal by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 69th UN General Assembly. He emphasised that yoga is a timeless practice essential for all. The proposal received immediate and widespread support, with Nepal, under the leadership of Nepal's then-Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, being the first country to endorse it. It was later supported by the European Union and other permanent members of the United Nations. Since June 21, 2015, International Yoga Day has been celebrated worldwide. This year marks the 11th International Day of Yoga, with the theme 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health.' This theme echoes a vital truth about the interconnectedness of health, sustainability, and the environment, aligning with India's 'One Earth, One Family, One Future' vision highlighted during its G20 presidency. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the UN General Assembly on September 27, 2014, first proposed the idea of the International Yoga Day. The draft resolution passed by India was endorsed by 175 members. International Day of Yoga is celebrated annually on 21 June since 2015, following its inception in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. 'I have experienced a lot of changes within myself. Before starting Yoga, whenever I felt bad about anything, I would ultimately start crying and screaming but after I started doing yoga, I could control myself. I found solace and peace within,' Ramita Bajracharya, a yoga practitioner, told ANI. However, in Nepal, Yoga Day was first observed on Magh 1, 2036 BS, coinciding with the occasion of Uttarayan, the period when the sun begins its northward journey, considered auspicious for yoga and meditation. Nepal Sanskrit University has also been contributing to this field by offering a six-month course in yoga and naturopathy. Historically, yoga--studied and practised by sages in the Himalayan region during the Vedic period--had nearly disappeared from Nepal. The initiative to revive it by designating a special day has helped increase public interest and awareness. After International Yoga Day was officially adopted globally on June 21, yoga campaigners in Nepal submitted a proposal to the Council of Ministers through the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction to designate Magh 1 as National Yoga Day. Acting on this proposal, the Nepal Government officially declared Magh 1 as National Yoga Day in 2072 BS, during the tenure of then Peace Minister Narahari Acharya. Since Uttarayan, which begins around Magh 1, is considered a spiritually significant time for yoga and meditation, the day holds special importance in Nepal's cultural and spiritual calendar. (ANI)
