
Union Minister Piyush Goyal welcoms safe return of Indian nationals evacuated from Iran under Op Sindhu
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 21 (ANI): Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday welcomed the safe return of Indian nationals evacuated from Iran under Operation Sindhu, a rescue mission launched by the Indian government amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel.
'Through Operation Sindhu, our Indian brothers and sisters stranded in Iran are being brought back. More than a thousand people have come back, I welcome all of them,' the Union Minister told reporters here.
Goyal emphasised the importance of resolving issues through dialogue but warned that terrorist acts would be met with a strong response, leaving 'no stone unturned'.
'Also, as the Prime Minister says all the time, issues should be resolved through dialogue. But if someone does something wrong, if someone commits a terrorist act, no stone will be left unturned to give them a befitting reply. This is a warning to anyone who looks.'
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that so far, 517 Indian nationals have returned to India from Iran under Operation Sindhu.
In a post on X, Jaiswal stated, 'Operation Sindhu continues. A special evacuation flight from Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, landed in New Delhi at 0300 hrs on 21st June, bringing Indians from Iran home. With this, so far 517 Indian nationals from Iran have returned home under Operation Sindhu.'
The first batch of 110 Indian students, including 90 from Kashmir, was safely evacuated from northern Iran and transported to Armenia before being flown to New Delhi. These students were primarily from Urmia Medical University.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) coordinated the evacuation, setting up emergency helplines and a 24x7 control room to assist Indian citizens in Iran. The MEA spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, thanked the governments of Iran and Armenia for their cooperation.
The rescued students expressed deep gratitude to the Narendra Modi-led government and Indian embassies in Iran and Armenia for their swift and safe evacuation.
Goyal's remarks comes right after participating in the program organised to celebrate 11th International Yoga Day, highlighting how Yoga has reached so many corners of the world under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
'Today, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, yoga has reached every home, every city of the world. India has become an engine of development to take the whole world to new heights. Today, the whole world is looking towards Prime Minister Modi and India... I congratulate Prime Minister Modi on the 11th International Yoga Day,' Goyal said.
Earlier today, a fresh batch of Indian nationals landed safely in Delhi after taking off from Iran under Operation Sindhu as part of the Centre's ongoing efforts to bring back its citizens from conflict-hit regions.
The Indian Embassy in Tehran coordinated the safe movement of students, while the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) ensured their safe return.
An Indian national who was evacuated from Iran, Zaffar Abbas Naqvi, recounted how he and his family stayed indoors initially after hearing about the attack on Iran. They later moved to Mashhad, which also came under attack, prompting them to contact the Indian government.
Naqvi praised the swift action taken by the government and thanked Prime Minister Modi and UP CM Yogi Adityanath for their support. (ANI)

New Delhi, June 21 (UNI) The celebration of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) on Saturday witnessed an overwhelming global participation, from India's borders and remote villages to bustling cities and embassies abroad. The day was led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who performed yoga at the iconic Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, addressing a massive gathering of over one lakh yoga enthusiasts. Modi highlighted that yoga is not merely an exercise but a holistic way of life, transcending boundaries, backgrounds, age, and abilities. He further emphasised the unifying power of yoga, noting that it has now been embraced by 175 countries, marking the global acceptance of his proposal for IDY in 2015. Joining the Prime Minister at the venue were Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Konidela Pawan Kalyan, underlining the yoga's cultural significance. To mark the day, President Droupadi Murmu took part in a yoga camp held at the Police Line in Dehradun, highlighting India's pivotal role in promoting yoga on the world stage. In fact, throughout the country, the spirit of unity was palpable as ministers, government officials, organisations both from public and private sectors and people from all walks of life participated. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla led celebrations at Parliament, while Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh took part in a session with 2,500 soldiers in Udhampur, Jammu & Kashmir. 23 Global Records Set On Yoga Day In Visakhapatnam: Chandrababu Naidu
Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday said in Visakhapatnam that the state set 23 global records - two Guinness Records and 21 World Book of Records - on the 11th International Yoga Day on Saturday. Addressing media persons after performing Yoga along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr Naidu said 3.03 lakh people have gathered here to perform the ancient lifestyle art, creating a world record for most people performing Yoga at a single location. The southern state aimed to attract five lakh people for the single location record, but managed to assemble around 3.03 lakh enthusiasts. "A total of 23 global records comprising 21 World Book of Records and two Guinness Records were created," said Naidu, elaborating on the yoga day feats. However, the exact number of participants will be announced by the Guinness World Records authorities, he said. Describing the 11th International Yoga Day celebration as a grand success, Mr Naidu expressed joy over 22,122 tribal students simultaneously performing 108 Surya namaskar for 108 minutes in one location, thus creating the second Guinness World Record. This feat was achieved on Friday at Andhra University. "Today, Visakhapatnam saw two mighty oceans, with Bay of Bengal on one side, and a boundless sea of yoga practitioners on the other. I joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi and lakhs of citizens to celebrate International Yoga Day and mark the success of our Yogandhra campaign," said Mr Naidu in a post on X. He thanked Prime Minister Modi for giving the opportunity to host this event and for his 'inspiring presence'. "This historic gathering shows our commitment to health through the power of yoga. I commend every participant, organiser, and volunteer who made this record-breaking event possible. Let's keep moving forward towards a healthier and happier Andhra Pradesh with regular yoga practice," he said. We have created history. He also said that 1.8 crore people are eligible to receive certificates for participating in yoga activities for one to three days. He noted that over 170 countries have accepted the yoga day and this ancient lifestyle art was performed in 12 lakh locations by 10 crore people globally. In Andhra Pradesh, 26 theme-based yoga sessions were organised in the 26 districts and at 101 tourist spots, he added. Yoga was performed in around 1.3 lakh venues across the state, and 2.17 crore people participated in them, he said. He also added that 1.46 lakh yoga trainers were identified. Offshore, naval ships also hosted yoga activities. The Chief Minister said the NDA alliance government will bring a coffee table book and a video on yoga day to promote it locally, nationally, and internationally. Likewise, he said the Visakhapatnam Declaration will also be brought on Yoga Day. Earlier, he said this declaration would urge people to make yoga part of their everyday life. Similarly, he said the state government will also set up Yoga Adhyayan Parishad and called on the people of the state to set aside one hour a day for yoga. Prime Minister Narendra Modi practices yoga, and this was the secret of his health, and he has never taken leave for the past 11 years, Chandrababu Naid said.
