Georgia lands second player from transfer portal
The Georgia Bulldogs have started getting aggressive on the transfer portal it has rewarded them. Former Wofford Terriers guard Justin Bailey has transferred to Georgia.
Justin Bailey is transferring to his third team. Bailey originally went to South Carolina Upstate for two years before transferring to Wofford. At both schools, Bailey has established himself as a physical, aggressive defender who enjoys driving in the paint. Georgia could absolutely use that skill set, since Georgia lost departed starting Silas Demary Jr. to the transfer portal.
Bailey averaged 9.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists per games last season with Wofford, who won the Southern Conference (SoCon) tournament. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound guard helped Wofford make an NCAA Tournament appearance, but the No. 15 seed Terrier lost to the Tennessee Volunteers in the opening round.
Bailey joins former California guard Jeremiah Wilkinson as Georgia's incoming transfers. This transfer portal class could be another gem for basketball coach Mike White. Last year, White acquired key depth pieces Tyrin Lawrence, Dakota Leffew, and De'Shayne Montgomery from the transfer portal.
It remains to be seen who else Georgia lands in the portal, but Bailey is in line to compete for the starting point guard. The Bulldogs are still looking to fill out the depth of the team, though. They've lost Demary, Montgomery, Savo Drezgic, and RJ Godfrey to the transfer portal, and Lawrence and Leffew are out of eligibility. Star forward Asa Newell, who was Georgia's leading scorer also entered the NBA draft.

Braves place Chris Sale on injured list with fractured rib cage
ATLANTA — Chris Sale has a fractured left rib cage is out indefinitely, a serious blow to the recently resurgent Atlanta Braves' chances of reeling in teams ahead of them in the NL East and wild-card standings. Sale, the 2024 National League Cy Young Award winner, was injured making a diving defensive play in the ninth inning Wednesday against the New York Mets. He dove for a Juan Soto grounder between the mound and first base and made the stop while landing on the left side of his chest. Advertisement The Braves placed him on the 15-day injured list and recalled left-hander Austin Cox, a journeyman reliever. Sale, 36, is 5-4 with a 2.52 ERA. In his past 10 starts, Sale has been one of the top two or three pitchers in baseball, going 5-2 with a 1.23 ERA while striking out 82 with 19 walks in 66 innings during that torrid stretch. The Braves won't have a timeline for Sale's return, and will wait until symptoms diminish before estimating when he'll be back. It likely will be a significant period, given the nature of the injury, perhaps magnified by his age, his slender physique and the amount of torque that the 6-foot-6 sidearming lefty produces in his delivery. Since losing 14 of 17 games to fall to 15 games out of first place in the NL East, the Braves have won seven of 10 games while posting a 3.13 ERA that's featured starters going deep in games, none more than Sale. With Sale out, the Braves' rotation still features two ace-caliber pitchers in Spencer Schwellenbach and Spencer Strider, who's had back-to-back strong starts as he regains form following a year-long recovery from elbow surgery and a month sidelined by a hamstring strain after his season debut. The rest of the rotation includes Grant Holmes, Bryce Elder and, for now, ascendant prospect Didier Fuentes, who became the youngest player in the majors this season when he made his MLB debut Friday at Miami just three days after turning 20. He gave up six hits, four runs and a walk with three strikeouts in five innings. On the play when Sale got hurt, he dove to make the stop, then got to his knees and threw to first for the first out of the inning. He stayed in and struck out Pete Alonso before giving up a bloop single and coming out of the game just one out shy of a shutout, which would've been his first complete game since 2019. Advertisement Sale threw 116 pitches in that game — one shy of the MLB season-high for any pitcher — and didn't say anything about the injury or soreness afterward, but was sent for tests after the soreness lingered. Sale is in the second year of a contract with the Braves that includes an $18 million club option for 2026. After making only 31 starts in his last four injury-plagued seasons with Boston, the Red Sox traded Sale to the Braves in December 2023 and he rebounded with one of the best seasons of his career to win his first Cy Young Award and the NL Triple Crown, going 18-3 with a majors-best 2.38 ERA and leading the NL in strikeouts with 225 in 177 2/3 innings. Sale stayed healthy last season until back spasms forced him to miss his final regular-season start and also kept him off the postseason roster for the wild-card series at San Diego, where the Braves were swept in two games. This is his first injury in 2025, but it's a big one for the Braves and the veteran bell cow of their starting rotation.

Ravens' Malaki Starks Receives Preseason Honor
Ravens' Malaki Starks Receives Preseason Honor originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Baltimore Ravens had a clear focus on defense in this year's draft, and addressed a subpar secondary from last season with their first-round pick. Advertisement General manager Eric DeCosta spent the No. 27 overall pick on Georgia safety Malaki Starks, and the selection was called "the best defensive fit of the first round" by ESPN. DeCosta said Starks was one of the best Combine interview they had and considered the Georgia defender the best safety in the draft. Starks has been named to All-Rookie Team by Gennaro Filice. "Starks is represented by Nicole Lynn, but the trailblazing agent has a serious competitor when it comes to the dogged promotion of her client: ME! Seeing how my infatuation with the safety approached stalker levels during this draft cycle, his placement here was guaranteed the moment I was handed this assignment," Filice wrote. Advertisement "The fit in Baltimore is perfect, as Starks' center field chops will allow Kyle Hamilton to return to the overhang role that made him a first-team All-Pro in 2023. And Malaki has already endeared himself to his head coach." Ravens coach John Harbaugh has been impressed with Starks since Day 1. 'He was organizing walk-throughs at the hotel for the rookies pretty much the whole camp -- I think that's pretty cool,' Harbaugh said last week. 'He's always on point.' It's likely that Starks can be a Week 1 starter too. The Ravens kept free agent Ar'Darius Washington, who started the final 12 games of the season including the playoffs at safety. But he's struggled to stay healthy and has played more than three games just one time in four seasons. Advertisement "This was a guy that really checked every single box for us in a lot of different ways," DeCosta said. "There were some other players that we coveted it as well, but in the end, he was by far the best guy available for us when we made the pick." The Pro Football Focus has ranked the best position duos in the NFL with four different former Georgia Bulldogs are making the list. Another Philadelphia Eagle is mentioned at linebacker Nakobe Dean. Dean is part of the top linebacker duo with Zack Baun. Dean was a key piece in the Eagles' Super Bowl run last season until his season was cut short by a torn patellar tendon in his left knee. Houston Texans and former Georgia Bulldog cornerback Kamari Lassiter is a apart of the best cornerback duo with teammate Derek Stingley Jr. Lassiter had an amazing rookie season.
