Here's Why We Think Singapore Exchange (SGX:S68) Might Deserve Your Attention Today

It's common for many investors, especially those who are inexperienced, to buy shares in companies with a good story even if these companies are loss-making. But as Peter Lynch said in One Up On Wall Street, 'Long shots almost never pay off.' Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, so investors in these companies may be taking on more risk than they should.
In contrast to all that, many investors prefer to focus on companies like Singapore Exchange (SGX:S68), which has not only revenues, but also profits. While this doesn't necessarily speak to whether it's undervalued, the profitability of the business is enough to warrant some appreciation - especially if its growing.
We've found 21 US stocks that are forecast to pay a dividend yield of over 6% next year. See the full list for free.
Generally, companies experiencing growth in earnings per share (EPS) should see similar trends in share price. That means EPS growth is considered a real positive by most successful long-term investors. Over the last three years, Singapore Exchange has grown EPS by 16% per year. That's a good rate of growth, if it can be sustained.
It's often helpful to take a look at earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. Singapore Exchange shareholders can take confidence from the fact that EBIT margins are up from 50% to 53%, and revenue is growing. Ticking those two boxes is a good sign of growth, in our book.
The chart below shows how the company's bottom and top lines have progressed over time. Click on the chart to see the exact numbers.

The trick, as an investor, is to find companies that are going to perform well in the future, not just in the past. While crystal balls don't exist, you can check our visualization of consensus analyst forecasts for Singapore Exchange's future EPS 100% free.
Since Singapore Exchange has a market capitalisation of S$15b, we wouldn't expect insiders to hold a large percentage of shares. But we do take comfort from the fact that they are investors in the company. Holding S$126m worth of stock in the company is no laughing matter and insiders will be committed in delivering the best outcomes for shareholders. This would indicate that the goals of shareholders and management are one and the same.
As previously touched on, Singapore Exchange is a growing business, which is encouraging. If that's not enough on its own, there is also the rather notable levels of insider ownership. The combination definitely favoured by investors so consider keeping the company on a watchlist. If you think Singapore Exchange might suit your style as an investor, you could go straight to its annual report, or you could first check our discounted cash flow (DCF) valuation for the company.
While opting for stocks without growing earnings and absent insider buying can yield results, for investors valuing these key metrics, here is a carefully selected list of companies in SG with promising growth potential and insider confidence.

TikTok parent ByteDance is shutting down its short-lived book publisher

TikTok parent ByteDance's book publisher 8th Note Press is closing up shop, according to a report from The Bookseller. Through its #BookTok community, TikTok has become an irreplaceable engine for publishers to drive book sales; even self-published authors have found unprecedented success by capturing a viral moment on TikTok. TikTok's parent company took the next logical step in 2023, figuring that if the app was revolutionizing book sales, then it may as well cash in on selling its own books. But ByteDance's foray into publishing is being cut short. While authors were drawn to 8th Note Press because it seemed like its affiliation with TikTok could drive sales, the press is now telling writers that it will shut down and give them their publication rights back. It's not clear why ByteDance has shut down the press after such a short lifespan. The company has not responded to TechCrunch's request for comment, nor has it responded to requests from any other outlets thus far. Sign in to access your portfolio

BofA Reaffirms Buy on MercadoLibre (MELI), Keeps $3,000 Target

BofA Securities reiterated its Buy rating on MercadoLibre (NASDAQ: MELI) on June 6, holding steady with a $3,000 price target. The firm sees the company as well-positioned despite expected short-term impacts from recent changes to its shipping model in Brazil. Analysts estimate that about 20% of MercadoLibre's GMV in Brazil comes from orders priced between R$19 and R$79, a segment tied to slower shipping options like MELI Delivery Day and excluding cross-border or grocery purchases. As the company tweaks its free shipping policies, BofA projects a net hit of roughly $350 million in shipping revenue. Copyright: prykhodov / 123RF Stock Photo However, they argue that a 30% improvement in delivery density could help balance the cost. Additional support could come from stronger earnings in Argentina or even a 1% bump in advertising penetration. The timing of the shift in shipping strategy, according to BofA, reflects a broader push to optimize fulfillment. Meanwhile, rising consumer engagement across new categories and a more focused ad push are seen as reinforcing the long-term plan. Last month we shared a detailed on MELI stock as well. While we acknowledge the potential of MELI as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and have limited downside risk.
