Unveiled in 2019, the Bugatti La Voiture Noire is a truly one-of-a-kind bespoke commission. It was designed in tribute to the missing fourth Type 57 SC Atlantic for Bugatti's 110th anniversary and is one of the rarest and most expensive cars ever built.
Its name translates to "the Black Car," which reflects its deep black carbon fiber body, seamlessly sculpted to create a flowing, aerodynamic design. Every aspect of the car is handcrafted, with a monocoque chassis made from high-grade carbon fiber and a deep gloss black finish highlighting its sculpted exterior.
The La Voiture Noire features an 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine that generates a whopping 1,479 horsepower and 1,180 lb-ft of torque, which enables the car to deliver breathtaking acceleration and top-tier performance. The front features Bugatti's signature horseshoe grille integrated seamlessly into the La Voiture Noire's elongated nose, while the headlights stretch along the fenders, adding to its futuristic appeal.
The rear is dominated by a full-length LED taillight strip and the aforementioned six-exhaust-pipe layout. We don't know much about the interior, but given Bugatti's standards, it likely features the highest levels of craftsmanship. The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail takes its inspiration from the legendary 1932 model, which was designed with the luxury J-class yachts of the 1920s in mind. The current Boat Tail marked the automaker's return to coachbuilt customization in 2018, with three similar but not identical examples. The three share a chassis and 563 hp twin-turbo V12 engine with the Rolls-Royce Phantom. It has a top speed of about 155 mph and can reach zero to 60 mph in about 5 seconds.
With over 1,800 bespoke parts, each example features a parasol that extends from the rear deck, cocktail tables with matching seats, a complete set of Christofle tableware, and two refrigerators.

All models appear to have been spoken for. The first Boat Tail to be released is said to belong to Jay-Z and Beyonce and while they haven't confirmed this, there are a few hints to suggest that's the case. The car is blue and features a matching pair of men's and women's luxury watches from Bovet Fleurier, as well as Armand de Brignac champagne in its fridge. Jay-Z had previously invested $600 million in the brand that he co-owns with LM.
The second Boat Tail was commissioned by the son of an anonymous pearling magnate for his father. It features a pearlescent exterior and an accented mother-of-pearl interior. Like the blue Boat Tail, its trunk opens from centrally mounted hatches, revealing walnut trim and a picnic set complete with a parasol. The Rolls-Royce La Rose Noire Droptail is the most expensive new vehicle. Inspired by the Black Baccara rose, the design holds significance for the commissioning couple, who had a hand in its creation but remain anonymous.
This coach-built masterpiece debuted in 2023 as the first of four commissioned Droptails. Its parquetry—a staple in many Rolls—Royce designs—is the most complex to date for the car company, with more than 1,600 hand-finished and hand-placed wood pieces assembled over two years.
Made from steel, aluminum, and carbon fiber, the Droptail is finished in a newly developed color, True Love red, with dark accents of the accompanying Mystery hue to capture the feel of the Baccara's rich, velvet-like petals.
The paint process required over 150 iterations and was layered with a complex technique of transparent lacquers to create a pearlescent shimmer. The front grille, detailed with hand-painted accents, and stunning 22-inch alloy wheels accented in Mystery paint further emphasize the car's striking presence.
The interior of the La Rose Noire Droptail features French-sourced Black Sycamore wood that forms an abstract design of falling rose petals. The interior also features a mix of the aforementioned colors in leather, adding a textured, pearlescent finish. According to the automaker, the craftsmanship is so intricate that the artisan responsible for its creation worked in silence for weeks at a time.The Rose Noire Droptail also incorporates an exclusive, removable Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept timepiece, specially designed to match the car's color scheme. The owners also commissioned a bespoke champagne chest tailored to house their special edition Champagne de Lossy. It, too, has matching rose petal parquetry and features an integrated cooling system, hand-blown crystal glasses, and custom thermal champagne coolers.
The Droptail is about 10 inches shorter than the Rolls Royce Ghost. Its extreme luxury doesn't detract from its considerable power, as its 6.7-liter V-12 engine cranks out 593 horsepower and 620 pound-feet of torque through either an 8-speed automatic or manual transmission. Rolls-Royce claims a top speed of 155 mph and a 0 to 60 mph time of 4.8 seconds.
The La Rose Noire Droptail is the first of four unique commissions. The second, Amethyst, is designed with the birthstone of the owner's son in mind. The third, the Arcadia, is named after the pastoral paradise in Greek mythology. While Rolls-Royce isn't forthcoming about their prices, it's believed they are in the same range, if not more.

Next Monday, June 23, will mark three years since Audi pledged to launch its final gas-powered cars in 2025 and transition to selling only EVs starting in 2026. At the time, the Volkswagen Group's luxury brand also vowed to end production of combustion engine vehicles by 2033. While it left the door open for ICE to continue in China beyond that date depending on demand, Audi was expected to become an electric-only brand in all other regions. That's no longer the case. CEO Gernot Döllner told Autocar magazine that Audi is likely to continue producing gas-powered cars until around 2035 and possibly beyond. He explained that a strong product rollout through 2026 will give the brand the flexibility to continue selling ICE vehicles for at least 'another seven, eight, maybe 10 years.' He didn't rule out extending production past the middle of the next decade, though he emphasized it would depend on customer demand: 'Then we will see how our markets develop. We have already decided to extend the production beyond the communicated end dates of the past.' The previous announcement was made under the then-CEO Markus Duesmann. Gernot Döllner took over in September 2023. While Audi was forced to discontinue the Q8 E-Tron and close a factory due to poor sales, its other EVs are gaining traction. In the first quarter of the year, Audi delivered 30.1% more fully electric vehicles compared to the same period in 2024. California's Driving Law Is Getting a Lot More Strict

Let's be honest, you've probably done something like this before. You are out on a drive to work, going back home, to the grocery store, or wherever, and you hear the notification sound from your phone, which immediately gets your attention. Lo and behold, you're glancing at texts, scrolling through Outlook, or fumbling across tabs on a social media app when you're supposed to have your eyes on the road. Despite in-car software like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto becoming a must-have item in everything from Kias to Rolls-Royces, smartphone-based distracted driving is still a problem out on the road. According to a 2023 survey of US drivers conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), over a fifth of drivers said that they engaged in at least one smartphone-based distracting activity while driving, including "making video calls, watching videos or using social media, on most or all of their trips." Although you may think there may be some situations where it is perfectly okay to hold your phone while driving, like looking at directions on a navigation application, a recent state appeals court decision in California will have you wrong. On June 3, the Court of Appeal of the State of California for the sixth appellate district ruled that a state law prohibiting the use of handheld cellphones while driving also applies when drivers are found to be holding phones running a navigation app like Apple Maps or Google Maps. The court ruled that while the driver doesn't need to be swiping or tapping on the screen, looking at the map with your phone in your hand is enough for a police officer to pull you over for a ticket. The Court of Appeals in the Golden State reached this decision in the case of a defendant named Nathaniel Gabriel Porter, who received a $158 ticket in Santa Clara County for holding his cellphone in one hand and looking at a mapping application while driving. Porter initially lost his ticket challenge in his first court appearance, but appealed the decision with the appellate division of the Santa Clara County Superior Court, which reversed the fine because it was determined then that he was technically not "operating" a wireless telephone as stated in the state law. Court documents state that at the time, it was determined that Porter was holding and looking at the mapping application on the phone without "active manipulation." "The court concluded 'there must be something equated to carrying out a function, actively using or manipulating the phone while holding and driving," court documents read. "This may include talking, listening, emailing, browsing the internet, playing video games, or otherwise engaging with the smartphone. Merely observing GPS directions on the phone does not constitute the kind of active use or manipulation to trigger an infraction under the statute." However, the California Court of Appeal for the Sixth Appellate District reversed that decision on June 3, concluding that the definition of the word "operating" under the above law "prohibits all use of a handheld phone's functions while driving, including looking at an application on the phone" and that "allowing a driver to hold a phone and view a mapping application, even if not touching the phone's screen, would be contrary to the Legislature's intent in enacting [the law]," the court's decision read. Porter is still on the hook for the initial $158 traffic ticket, but this story shows that the state of California is clear in its vision to reduce distracted driving. The data about distracted driving is pretty straightforward. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), over 3,000 people in the U.S. were killed in 2022 due to distracted driving, with phone use being one of the leading culprits. Josef Newgarden's 'trying season' continues with crash at WWTR, leaves with 'only thing to do'

Josef Newgarden was seemingly running toward his first IndyCar win of the season as long as he could avoid an already eventful night on the short-oval track at World Wide Technology Raceway. But as a highlight of Newgarden's blue PPG Paints No. 2 was turning in front of a Midwest sunset, the Fox broadcast quickly cut back to Newgarden's car upside down. It was the result of rookie Louis Foster losing his car into the outer SAFER barrier coming out of Turn 4 and gliding to the front of the track perpendicular to oncoming traffic on Lap 131. Newgarden went inside, but contact was unavoidable. After contact, Newgarden flipped and the back of his car landed on the inside SAFER barrier as he skidded to a stop. Foster and Newgarden were seen and released from the medical center, and Newgarden was shown walking with a team member. He issued a response on social media Monday. "Not sure what to say, other than thank you to the AMR safety team and the safety of the car," he wrote with images of the crash attached to his post. "Seemed like everything was going our way last night, until it wasn't. Not much you can do in a situation like that. This season has been pretty trying for everyone on the 2 crew. Only thing to do is look forward. It will only make the successes even sweeter. "See you in Road America! America!"
