Notre Dame named in two Top 10 non-conference best matchups for 2025
The 2025 college football season is inching closer and closer, and there are a slew of juicy non-conference matchups on tap.
One of those clashes includes Notre Dame hosting Texas A&M, the back end of a home-and-home series that began last year. It's clearly a notable matchup, and ESPN analyst Greg McElroy named it No. 5 on his Top 10 list of non-conference games this fall.
"Coach Mike Elko enters into the second year," McElroy said on his Always College Football podcast. "They get everybody back on the offensive line. The offense in general should be excellent. And their quarterback Marcel Reed should be a lot more advanced than he was last year. He didn't even play against Notre Dame in Week 1. So, now, that should be an incredible matchup when the Aggies head to South Bend there in the middle of September."
Last season, Marcus Freeman's squad scored a 23-13 win in College Station, a game that featured the Irish leaning on their rushing attack. They compiled 198 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, with Jeremiyah Love leading the way with 91 yards and a score. Meanwhile, the Aggies had just 100 passing yards in the loss, though adding playmakers at receiver was a priority this offseason. So this should be a different Aggies offense in the rematch.
The Irish have the fourth-best nonconference game, as well, according to McElroy. ND opens the season at Miami, a team McElroy is high on. Mario Cristobal has the Hurricanes set up to contend for the ACC title with the likes of Clemson.
"Miami has restocked and reloaded," McElroy said. "Carson Beck is now their starting quarterback. They have great personnel on both lines of scrimmage. Mario Cristobal has a legitimate ACC title contender again this year. At least one of the top two teams in the ACC."
The new season can't get here soon enough.

Texas wins over 5-Star edge, but Texas A&M's recruiting momentum holds strong
As the saying goes, 'You can't win them all.' Texas A&M missed out on five-star edge rusher Richard Wesley out of Los Angeles, California, who shut down his recruitment after an official visit to Texas. If we're being honest, the Aggies were never truly in the running for Wesley. He took 10 visits between Oregon and USC, with Texas A&M managing just a single unofficial visit back in January. Wesley had a viral moment jumping into a pool with Oregon head coach Dan Lanning after committing to the Ducks, only to decommit two weeks later, hilariously. While a high-profile out-of-state recruit like Wesley choosing Coach Lanning wouldn't exactly shake things up in Aggieland, it's a different story when that level of talent commits to your in-state rival. That opens the door for serious social media banter and, more importantly, bragging rights in the recruiting rankings. As it stands, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko is on a recruiting heater, with the Aggies soaring to the No. 2 spot in the 2026 class rankings. Meanwhile, the Longhorns have entered the top 10 after two significant commitments. With early signing day just over five months away, every recruiting win—or loss—carries added weight. While missing out on Wesley wasn't a surprise, the momentum Elko is building in College Station is undeniable. The Lone Star rivalry is heating up, and both teams are racing toward December with something to prove. On Sunday, the Spartans were hosting a 7-on-7 tournament, where various teams from within the state, and around the country, made their way to East Lansing looking to show themselves off to the MSU coaching staff. One local prospect, a Detroit native that plays for Martin Luther King High School, earned an offer through his performance on Sunday. Don Spillers was the recipient of the offer. A 6-foot-2, 195 pound wide receiver, he has not been ranked by 247Sports as a member of the 2027 recruiting class. Spillers owns additional notable offers from Maryland and Michigan.
