Big boost to India's defence sector as India signs major Indo-French Defence deal, Safran Likely to Power Tejas Mk-2 with...
Tejas Light Combat Aircraft
New Delhi: The Modi government is making relentless efforts to upgrade and strengthen the country's military capabilities. In a major development, India has now taken a significant step toward manufacturing its own fighter jet engines. According to a Moneycontrol report quoting sources, India is considering a partnership with French aerospace and defense company Safran.
This collaboration aims to develop modern engines for the Indian Air Force (IAF) and to create engines for next-generation indigenous fighter aircraft such as the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mk-2.
It is important to note that GE Aerospace, an American defense company, is supplying the F404-IN20 engine for the Tejas Mk-1 fighter jet. However, delays in the supply are affecting the Indian Air Force's planning. In such a scenario, India is now actively exploring all possibilities to rapidly increase indigenous production.
After Operation Sindoor, India is working tirelessly to increase the number of fighter jets. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently reiterated that if there is a terrorist attack on the Indian border, the response will be strong — whether the attacker is a state or a non-state element.
The Indian Air Force has a target of 42 squadrons, but currently, only 31 squadrons are available. Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh had expressed concern over the delay in the delivery of Tejas Mk-1 during the Aero India 2025 show held in Bengaluru in February. In response, HAL stated that the delay was due to technical reasons and would be resolved soon. The Story of the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft
It was around 2009-10 when the program for the Indian Air Force's (IAF) Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) began and the first order for 40 units of the Tejas Mk-1 (32 fighter variants and 8 trainer variants) was placed.
These aircraft were expected to be delivered by 2016. Later, in February 2021, the Ministry of Defence and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) signed a deal worth ₹48,000 crore for a second order of 83 more Tejas Mk-1A aircraft (73 fighters and 10 trainers).
According to the reports, the delivery of this batch was supposed to begin in mid-2024. However, it has been delayed. One of the major reasons for this delay is the late supply of the F404-IN20 engines from the American company GE Aerospace, which are to be installed in these aircraft.
The initial discussions around the deal also included a proposal for up to 80 percent technology transfer.
In March, GE informed that it had delivered 99 F404-IN20 engines to HAL under the 2021 order. Before this, GE had already delivered 65 engines for the Mk-1 version by 2016. Another engine by GE — the F414-GE-INS6 — has been selected for the Tejas Mk-2 and the upcoming fifth-generation fighter aircraft, AMCA (Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft).

Major US cities on high alert after airstrikes on Iran's nuclear facilities
Major United States cities, including New York and Washington, have been placed on high alert after American airstrikes hit three Iranian nuclear sites — a dramatic turn in the rapidly escalating Middle East enforcement agencies have stated there are no specific or credible threats so far, but additional patrols and precautions are being taken around religious, diplomatic, and cultural New York Police Department (NYPD), in a post on X, said it is "tracking the situation unfolding in Iran, and has deployed additional resources across the city out of an abundance of caution". The department also said it was working in coordination with federal partners and would continue monitoring for any potential impact to New York City. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) in Washington, DC, released a similar advisory, noting increased coordination with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to share intelligence and ensure the safety of residents, visitors, and businesses. While MPD reported no known threats, it confirmed an increased police presence around religious Los Angeles, Mayor Karen Bass also weighed in, stating that city authorities are 'closely monitoring any threats to public safety' in the aftermath of the US military are no known credible threats at this time and out of an abundance of caution, LAPD is stepping up patrols near places of worship, community gathering spaces and other sensitive sites. We will remain vigilant in protecting our communities," Bass wrote in a Mauro, a former NYPD Inspector, told Fox News that law enforcement is likely giving "special attention" to locations tied to communities potentially impacted by the strike. "You never know what's going to develop," he said, referring to patrols at both Israeli-linked sites and Shia mosques, given Iran's Shia AVOID MIDDLE EASTSeveral international airlines diverted flights away from large swathes of the Middle East on Sunday, following U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. 'No Military In World Could Have Done This': Trump As US Strikes Iranian Nuclear Sites
President Trump announced a successful US military attack on three Iranian nuclear sites, including Fordo. 'We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform. 'A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow." Trump added that 'all planes are safely on their way home. Congratulations to our great American Warriors." Trump's announcement came just two days after he said he would decide 'within two weeks" whether to join key ally Israel in attacking Iran. Earlier on Saturday, there were reports that US B-2 bombers — which carry so-called 'bunker buster" bombs — were headed out of the United States. Trump did not say what kind of US planes or munitions were involved. Tehran had threatened reprisals on US forces in the Middle East if Trump attacked, but the US president called for 'peace." 'There is not another military in the World that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!" he said.

Iran-Israel war: US joins Israel's strikes on Iran, hits nuclear sites; Tehran warns of ‘legitimate response in self-defence'
A short time ago, the US military carried out massive precision strikes on the three key nuclear facilities in the Iranian regime, Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Everybody heard those names for years as they built this horribly destructive enterprise. Our objective was the destruction of Iran's nuclear enrichment capacity and a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world's number one state sponsor of terror. Tonight, I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success. Iran's key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated. Iran, the bully of the Middle East, must now make peace. If they do not, future attacks will be far greater and a lot easier. For 40 years, Iran has been saying, death to America, death to Israel. They have been killing our people, blowing off their arms, blowing off their legs with roadside bombs – that was their speciality. We lost over a thousand people, and hundreds of thousands throughout the Middle East and around the world have died as a direct result of their hate, in particular, so many were killed by their general, Qassem Soleiman. I decided a long time ago that I would not let this happen. It will not continue. I want to thank and congratulate Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu. We worked as a team like perhaps no team has ever worked before, and we've gone a long way to erasing this horrible threat to Israel. I want to thank the Israeli military for the wonderful job they've done, and most importantly, I want to congratulate the great American patriots who flew those magnificent machines tonight, and all of the United States military on an operation the likes of which the world has not seen in many, many decades. Hopefully, we will no longer need their services in this capacity. I hope that's so. I also want to congratulate the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan 'Razin' Caine – spectacular general – and all of the brilliant military minds involved in this attack. With all of that being said, this cannot continue. There will be either peace or there will be tragedy for Iran far greater than we have witnessed over the last eight days. Remember, there are many targets left. Tonight's was the most difficult of them all by far, and perhaps the most lethal, but if peace does not come quickly, we will go after those other targets with precision, speed, and skill. Most of them can be taken out in a matter of minutes. There's no military in the world that could have done what we did tonight, not even close. There has never been a military that could do what took place just a little while ago. Tomorrow, General Caine, Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth, will have a press conference at 8 am at the Pentagon, and I want to just thank everybody, and in particular, God. I want to just say we love you, God, and we love our great military. Protect them. God bless the Middle East. God bless Israel, and God bless America. Thank you very much. Thank you.
