900 Agro MADANI Baskets Sold at Perak PMR 2025 Event
LUMUT: A total of 900 Agro MADANI baskets priced at RM15 each are available for visitors at the three-day Perak MADANI Rakyat (PMR) 2025 programme, which ends tomorrow, at the Lumut Waterfront.
Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) officer in Manjung, Mohamad Haspizul Abu Hassan, said 300 baskets containing fresh chicken, cabbage, spices and onions were provided each day.
'We estimate sales of 300 baskets per day for this Agro MADANI basket. Alhamdulillah, the response was overwhelming that we ran out of stock early yesterday.
'The four items in each basket are worth more than RM20, so we are cutting the price by RM5, especially for our customers during the Perak PMR 2025 programme,' he said when met here today.
He said FAMA also brought agricultural produce from various parts of Perak, including Lekir Chokanan mango from the Manjung district, and pomelo from Tambun.
'The Chokanan mango is widely grown in the Lekir area in Manjung district. It has a sweet taste, even though the appearance on the outside may not look appealing.
'Today, the Chokanan mango is sold at RM5 per kilogram (kg), but if you buy three kilograms, you can get them for RM12. Usually, in the market, it is RM7 to RM8 per kilogram,' he said.
The PMR 2025 Perak at Lumut Waterfront is open from 9 am to 10 pm on Friday and Saturday, while on Sunday, the program is scheduled to end at 6 pm. The government service stalls will operate every day until 6 pm.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to close the PMR 2025 in Perak on Sunday.
Perak is the second location for the large-scale PMR, the result of strategic cooperation between the Project Acceleration and Coordination Unit (PACU) of the Prime Minister's Department as the main secretariat and the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) as the lead ministry.

U.S. Action In Iran-Israel Conflict Worsens Situation, Undermines Stability
KUCHING, June 22 (Bernama) -- Interference by major powers such as the United States in the Iran-Israel conflict will only worsen the situation and undermine regional stability as well as the global economy, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today. He said the United States' involvement in the conflict could escalate tensions and have a direct impact on key global trade routes such as the Strait of Hormuz. 'Now, with the involvement of external powers, including the United States, the situation will only become more volatile. If the Strait of Hormuz is blocked, it will pose a major problem to the global economy,' he told reporters after a session with the Sarawak Keadilan Leadership Council here.

48 weekly markets upgraded in Sabah to boost rural economy, food security
Arthur (second from left) after officiating the Pasar Tamu at Rancangan Belia Tiulon in Sook. SOOK (June 22): A total of 48 pasar tamu (weekly markets) across Sabah have been successfully upgraded or newly constructed under a Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) initiative, aimed at strengthening rural economic activity and supporting the National Food Security Policy. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup, said the projects — funded with an allocation of RM15.6 million from the Federal Government — are now fully completed. Speaking to the media after officiating the upgraded Pasar Tamu at Rancangan Belia Tiulon in Sook, Arthur noted the transformation these projects brought to rural trading facilities. 'Previously, traders here used only wooden tables and canvas sheets to shield themselves from the sun and rain. With the upgraded infrastructure, I see great potential for further development,' he said. The Pasar Tamu at Rancangan Belia Sook, established in 2021 with just eight traders, has since expanded to include 40 regular vendors. The market upgrade, which began on 25 September 2024, was completed on 2 April 2025. Arthur, who is also the Member of Parliament for Pensiangan, said the upgrades reflect the government's commitment to empowering rural agro-entrepreneurs by providing more comfortable and conducive business environments. 'These projects were carried out in phases, prioritising markets most in need of repair or those no longer suitable for use. The upgraded markets are expected to boost the competitiveness of local agricultural products and spur local economic activity,' he said. The officiating event drew participation from the local community, including village leaders, government officials, and agro-based entrepreneurs. Also present were FAMA Director-General Abdul Rashid Bahri, FAMA Sabah and Labuan director Sarman Sidno and FAMA Market Institution Division director Mohd Shahrizan Mansor. With the upgraded facilities, the pasar tamu now offers a more systematic and appealing space for local entrepreneurs while serving as a weekly economic and social hub. It is hoped that the initiative will not only foster entrepreneurship but also preserve the traditional market culture that defines Sabah's rural communities.

Don't downplay seriousness of national debt
Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim must cease using selective framing and misrepresenting concepts to downplay the seriousness of the national debt or to claim undue credit. The public deserves transparency, especially amid rising inflation, an increasing cost of living, and growing economic hardship. Urgently needed are concrete, revenue-generating economic policies, not a continued reliance on tax increases and subsidy reductions that add financial pressure on the rakyat. Recently, the Prime Minister stated that Malaysia's new borrowings have decreased annually, from RM100bil in 2022 to RM80bil in 2024. He also claimed that consistent efforts have been made since 2022 to reduce the fiscal deficit from 5.5% to a projected 3.8% this year. However, this narrative attempts to obscure the actual increase in overall national debt by focusing only on the decline in new borrowing. The claim of a RM20bil drop in new debt over three years does not reflect the full picture. According to the latest fiscal and debt data released by Bank Negara Malaysia, the national debt continues to rise. Official reports, such as the Government Finance Statistics and the Economic Outlook Report, show that federal government debt exceeded RM1.17tril at the end of 2023. This figure rose to RM1.6324tril in 2024 and remained high at RM1.2476tril as of the first quarter of 2025. These numbers directly contradict the Prime Minister's claims and reveal a clear attempt to present a misleading version of the national debt status by selectively using statistics. National debt cannot be assessed by focusing solely on new borrowings. The total size of the debt, the debt-to-GDP ratio, refinancing obligations, and interest liabilities are all key structural factors that must be addressed. Suggesting that borrowing slightly less this year indicates meaningful fiscal improvement underestimates the public's understanding and concern. What matters most to the people is the actual debt burden carried by the country, not how the government chooses to interpret the data. If the debt continues to grow and interest payments increase, then the Prime Minister's remarks amount to self-deception and risk eroding public trust. Despite repeated assurances of fiscal reform and financial discipline, the Unity Government has yet to demonstrate genuine progress in reducing national debt or budget deficits over the past two years. Instead, it has expanded the Sales and Services Tax (SST) and reduced subsidies, effectively shifting the fiscal burden onto the public while failing to rein in government expenditure. Balancing the national budget should not come at the expense of ordinary Malaysians. The real crisis today lies in inflation and the rising cost of living. Yet the government has failed to introduce any substantial, revenue-boosting economic policy or reform plan. What the country truly needs are forward-looking policies that raise incomes, encourage investment, and create employment opportunities. Fiscal reforms must not be used as an excuse to add to the public's burden. Malaysians do not need more political packaging. What is urgently required are real, effective solutions that provide relief and restore confidence. Saw Yee Fung MCA Youth Secretary General
