Minister of Tourism Participates in Arabian Travel Market (ATM) Dubai
Her Excellency Fatima bint Jaffar Al-Sairafi, Minister of Tourism, participated in the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2025, which is being held from April 28 to May 1, 2025, at the Dubai World Trade Centre, under the theme of "Global Travel: Transforming the Tourism of the Future through Enhanced Connectivity."
Al-Sairafi explained that the exhibition is one of the largest and most important exhibitions specializing in the travel and tourism sector regionally and globally. This year, it highlights the future aspects of travel and tourism, with a focus on the role of communication in shaping the next phase. She noted the Kingdom of Bahrain's commitment to taking part in such major international events, which contributes to promoting tourism and strengthening communication with stakeholders in the travel and tourism sector from all around the world. It also highlights Bahrain's distinguished tourism infrastructure, in addition to, the qualitative developments achieved in the tourism sector, and creates more opportunities for cooperation with various markets and international partners, in line with the objectives of the 2022-2026 Tourism Strategy.
This year, the Kingdom of Bahrain is participating with a pavilion comprising of 28 entities from the public and private sectors, most notably the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), the national carrier Gulf Air, and the Exhibition World Bahrain Centre (EWB), along with a number of luxury hotels and resorts and tourism DMCs. Bahrain's participation covers a 425 sqm pavilion, showcasing the Kingdom's most prominent tourism assets, while informing visitors and participants of the latest tourism projects and initiatives. Bilateral meetings will also be held with worldwide representatives from the tourism sector to explore opportunities for joint cooperation and exchange best practices in sustainable tourism.
As part of the ATM participation, the Minister met with His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy of the United Arab Emirates, and His Excellency Salim bin Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism of the Sultanate of Oman. They discussed prospects for cooperation with both countries in the tourism sector, emphasizing the importance of strengthening partnerships to serve common interests and tourism development plans in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

All it took for Syria to get back in the global dollar regime was for Al Qaeda to take over. Reuters reports that Syria completed its first international bank transaction through the SWIFT system since the onset of its 14-year civil war, its central bank governor said Thursday, marking a significant step in the country's efforts to reintegrate into the global financial system. Governor Abdelkader Husriyeh said a direct commercial transaction had been carried out from a Syrian to an Italian bank on Sunday, and that transactions with U.S. banks could begin within weeks. 'The door is now open to more such transactions,' he told Reuters in Damascus. Syrian banks were cut off from the world during the civil war after a crackdown by Bashar Assad on anti-government protests in 2011 led Western states to impose sanctions, including on Syria's central bank. After Assad was ousted in a lightning offensive led by 'reformed' Al Qaeda CIA-supported 'opposition forces' last year, Syria has taken steps to re-establish international ties, culminating in a May meeting between interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa and Donald Trump in Riyadh. The US then significantly eased its sanctions and some in Congress are pushing for them to be totally repealed. Meanwhile, Europe announced the end of its economic sanctions regime. Like every post-US intervention state, Syria now needs to make transfers with Western financial institutions – or what the Deep State calls 'laundering money' – in order to bring in huge sums for reconstruction and to kickstart a war-ravaged economy that has left nine out of 10 people poor, according to the United Nations. Husriyeh chaired a high-level virtual meeting on Wednesday, bringing together Syrian banks, several U.S. banks and U.S. officials, including Washington's Syria envoy Thomas Barrack. The aim of the meeting was to accelerate the reconnection of Syria's banking system to the global financial system and Husriyeh extended a formal invitation to U.S. banks to re-establish correspondent banking ties. 'We have two clear targets: have U.S. banks set up representative offices in Syria and have transactions resume between Syrian and American banks. I think the latter can happen in a matter of weeks,' Husriyeh told Reuters. Among the banks invited to Wednesday's conference were JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley and Citibank, though it was not immediately clear who attended.

BTEA signs agreement with Russia's Aeroclub Group
The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) signed a memorandum of understanding with Russia's Aeroclub Group to strengthen cooperation in the tourism sector. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of Bahrain's participation as Guest of Honour at the 28th Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum 2025 (SPIEF), held from June 18 to 21. Sarah Ahmed Buhejji, BTEA Chief Executive, and Denis Matyukhin, Chairman of Aeroclub Group, signed the agreement, which aims to enhance tourism promotion, facilitate knowledge exchange, and develop incentive programmes for business tourism and event management. It also includes cooperation in joint exhibitions and tourism related events, as well as the adoption of innovative travel technologies. Buhijji emphasised Bahrain's commitment to strengthening ties with the Russian Federation and expanding collaboration across the tourism industry. She noted that the agreement supports Bahrain's strategic direction to diversify international partnerships and boost the tourism sector's contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in line with the 2022–2026 Tourism Strategy. The MoU is expected to support tourism innovation, sustainable development, and investment partnerships in related sectors such as hospitality, events, and culture, contributing to stronger economic ties between both countries. First Flight Carrying Stranded Bahrainis From Iran Expected To Arrive Today
The first evacuation flight carrying Bahraini citizens stranded in Iran is expected to arrive in the Kingdom today. The flight, operated by national carrier Gulf Air, is coming from Ashgabat International Airport in Turkmenistan and includes dozens of citizens who departed the Iranian city of Mashhad in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to travel organizers, the flight will make a transit stop at Cairo International Airport before continuing to Bahrain International Airport. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is covering all expenses for the return journeys—both by land and air—for those who registered through the ministry's official evacuation channels. Passengers on the first group of evacuees shared their journey, stating the road trip from Mashhad to Ashgabat took around three hours. They arrived at the busy Turkmen airport on Friday afternoon. Bahrain's Ambassador to Turkey, Bassam Al-Marzouq, along with several embassy staff, was present at the Turkmenistan border to oversee the crossing process and ensure smooth coordination for the travelers. One of the returning citizens, businessman Kazem Al-Saeed, described his experience coming back from Mashhad. He traveled on a FlyDubai flight that landed in Bahrain on Friday evening. Al-Saeed explained that Bahrainis seeking assistance to return from Iran must first visit the Zamzam Hotel in Mashhad to register their names and receive details about the return process. He praised Ambassador Bassam Al-Marzouq and embassy staff for personally overseeing the arrangements at Ashgabat Airport and accompanying passengers from the border to the terminal to ensure everything ran smoothly. Al-Saeed also expressed his gratitude to Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif Al Zayani for his active role in following up on the citizens' situation and for facilitating their safe return. He emphasized that such efforts reflect the leadership's commitment to the well-being of Bahrainis abroad.
