Mindef to digitalise all 38 camp schools nationwide
KLUANG: The Ministry of Defence (Mindef) aims to digitalise all 38 schools in camps nationwide as part of efforts to cultivate the use of creative technology among children of defence personnel.
Deputy Minister Adly Zahari said the initiative is aligned with the Ministry of Education's Digital Education Policy launched in 2023, which seeks to produce digitally fluent students capable of navigating the demands of today's technological landscape.
'This initiative will also empower educators and education leaders to integrate digital technology into the education ecosystem, strengthen digital infrastructure and content, as well as optimise strategic partnerships to advance digital education,' he said after launching the Affin Digital Space at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sultan Sir Ibrahim here today.
SK Sultan Sir Ibrahim is among the three schools that were selected for this year's pilot project, through a collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Affin Bank Berhad, with an allocation of RM94,000.
The first two schools to implement the initiative were SK Kementah and SK TUDM Subang.
'All 38 schools in camps, including those in Sabah and Sarawak, will be digitalised in phases, subject to feedback and the effectiveness of the pilot project,' said Adly.
He stressed that digitalisation is not only aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of teaching and learning but also supports the national well-being ecosystem through the MADANI nation-building agenda and the National Fourth Industrial Revolution policy.
At SK Sultan Sir Ibrahim, a green screen technology studio has been set up to enable students and teachers to produce creative, media-based educational content.
'During the launch, the school media crew also demonstrated the use of green screen facilities, video editing techniques and lighting setups. A short video presentation titled Bicara Pemimpin was also screened, highlighting the students' talents, especially members of the school resource centre's TV team,' he added.

UTM trio develops 24-hour self-service printing solution
JOHOR BAHRU: What began as a trivial issue - printing assignments outside regular hours - became the driving force behind an innovative venture by three Universiti Teknologi Malaysia students, who developed PrintTEX, a self-service kiosk offering round-the-clock printing access. Through their startup, Uninet Teknologi Enterprise, the trio from the Faculty of Computing and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering – Fikri Akmal Aizuddin Bahrim, 23, as Chief Executive Officer; Iqmal Aizat Mohd Zamri, 23, as Chief Technology Officer; and Low Lie Xin, 25, as Chief Operating Officer – began operating the kiosk in December 2023. Fikri Akmal Aizuddin, a final-year computer science student, said the kiosk is complemented by the PrintTEX mobile app, which offers on-demand printing services with rates as low as RM0.20 for black and white and RM0.45 for colour prints. 'The PrintTEX app comes with several handy features, such as users being able to find the nearest kiosk, upload documents and make payments online. 'Users just need to install the app, upload their documents, make a minimum payment of RM3, and then head to the kiosk to scan the QR code and print straight away,' he said when met by Bernama here.\ Fikri Akmal Aizuddin said they first developed a basic prototype or minimum viable product (MVP) in August 2023 using their own funds, which covered development costs, hardware such as printers, storage systems and other electronic components. He shared that with full support from the UTM Centre for Student Innovation and Technology Entrepreneurship, his team successfully secured RM30,000 from the Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) to assist with system development, documentation, and company registration. 'We developed the entire system ourselves, from the mobile app and integration platform to printer configuration and payment management. It took us around six months for the research and development and another month or two to build the first unit,' he said. Currently, two PrintTEX kiosks are available at the UTM Skudai campus – one in the 24-hour Study Room at the Sultanah Zanariah Library and another at Arked Lestari – while a third unit is operating outside Johor at UNISEL Bestari Jaya in Selangor. The company has also been approached by two higher education institutions under MARA that have expressed interest in allocating space for the installation of the Internet of Things (IoT)-based kiosk at their campuses.

CoolThink@JC × Cambodia Sharing and Exchange Programme MoU Signed to Advance Computational Thinking in Country's Schools
HONG KONG SAR - Media OutReach Newswire - 20 June 2025 - The CoolThink@JC programme, initiated and funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cambodia's Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport at Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong on 18 June. Under the MoU, titled 'CoolThink@JC × Cambodia Sharing and Exchange Programme', the ministry will adopt and adapt CoolThink@JC's internationally recognised curriculum and innovative education model in Cambodian primary schools. It will also foster collaboration through experience sharing between the educational systems of Hong Kong and Cambodia. The aim is to ensure that students from diverse backgrounds have equitable access to quality computational thinking education, thus nurturing future-ready talent for the digital age. The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport plans to introduce CoolThink@JC's curricular materials and successful experiences in 100 public schools in Cambodia, benefiting approximately 30,000 students and 500 teachers, from 2025 to 2028. By enhancing students' computational thinking and problem-solving skills, the initiative can help to bridge the digital divide and open a new chapter in the development of Cambodia's education system. As an ASEAN member state participating in the Belt and Road Initiative, Cambodia plans to share this development at international platforms such as the 2026 Global Smart Education Conference in Beijing, further amplifying the programme's impact. By exploring both local and global educational perspectives and exchanging knowledge, educators from Hong Kong and Cambodia will collaborate to create better learning environments for Asian students. CoolThink@JC created the International Conference on Computational Thinking Education (CTE) in 2016.
