Cat Deeley shares real name on This Morning as she reunites with school teacher
This Morning host Cat Deeley was left stunned when her former primary school teacher appeared via video link and referred to her by her real name
Cat Deeley left her fans utterly astonished after revealing her actual name live on air. The 48-year-old This Morning presenter shed light on her unexpected alias during an endearing segment with her former teacher as part of Thank a Teacher Day celebrations.
Amid interviews with children discussing their school in Surrey, Cat was caught off guard by a surprise video call from Mrs Cotterill, her primary school mentor, who addressed the television personality by her birth name, stating: "Her name is Katie."
Ben Shepherd clarified to viewers: "Because you, of course, know her as Katie."
Taking the opportunity to elaborate on her name history, Cat, who received high praise from Mrs Cotterill, disclosed that while her official name is Catherine, she was affectionately referred to as Katie in her youth, reports the Mirror.
Explaining the personal significance, she mentioned: "Well my real name is Catherine, but my grandad always used to call me Katie and my mum and dad and stuff," and humorously noted, "Unless I was in trouble, then I was sometimes Catherine!"
Mrs Cotterill offered kind words about Cat, expressing delight at seeing her past pupil: "She was very enthusiastic, a very kind child. Always wanting to help, always wanting to be involved, just actually, an all round super person."
Raised in Birmingham, Cat attended Grove Vale Junior School and moved on to Dartmouth High School. At the age of 14, her flair for fashion propelled her to the national finals of a modelling competition hosted by BBC's The Clothes Show.
She was later scouted by a modelling agency, and it was at this juncture that her name was changed to Cat.
Last year, Cat and Ben were unveiled as the fresh faces of the renowned ITV morning programme, stepping into the shoes of long-standing presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.
At the time, an insider lavished compliments on Cat while speaking to the Mirror, remarking on her "very recognisable face, thanks to her long stint of working on kids' TV".
Further commendations came in from them: "Back in the 90s and early 2000s, when she worked with Ant and Dec on SMTV Live, she was very warm and funny so it's hoped they can recreate some of that magic together."
Following her tenure presenting a myriad of shows, including So You Think You Can Dance? across the pond, Cat became settled in family life, marrying Irish comedian Patrick Kielty and having two sons, James and Milo.
Initially basing their family life in Los Angeles, they were driven to reconsider their location following a harrowing incident at a mall shooting which involved Patrick and Milo.
Prompted by this distressing event, during which Patrick received an active shooter alert from the FBI while shopping, in 2020, Cat and Patrick relocated back to England, opting for North London as their new abode.

'My Egyptian toyboy husband swore me off sex at 86 - but I won't divorce him'
Iris Jones, 86 shocked This Morning viewers with details of her sex life with Egyptian toyboy, but now she says she is "agony aunt" to other women who have heart their broken by much younger men A pensioner who boasted on TV about romps with her Egyptian toyboy says she has sworn off sex for good after their acrimonious split. Iris Jones, 86, stunned This Morning viewers when she spilled the beans about her steamy antics with Mohamed Ibrahim, 40. She was open about their use of K-Y Jelly and said their nights of passion left her feeling 'saddle-sore'. She married Mohamed, 46 years her junior, in 2020 in Cairo after meeting him on social media the year before. Her new husband moved to the UK in 2021, but they split in 2023. And now she says: 'The idea of sex now makes my stomach turn. I'm not interested in men at all, not in companionship with them and certainly not sex with them. 'My experience with Mohamed has put me off relationships for life. I wish I'd never met him.' Iris, a former legal secretary, wed Mohamed on her third visit to Cairo in a civil ceremony, with only his dad in attendance as a witness. Iris, who has two sons, Stephen, 59, and Darren, 58, says before she got married Stephen begged her not to do anything rash. Even the wedding reception being a meal in McDonald's did not put her off, she says, adding: 'I didn't care. I thought I was madly in love, so I would have married him anywhere.' But her desire turned to disdain and she kicked Mohamed out following 'non-stop arguing'. She says: 'I finally realised I had enough. I was so tired from all the housework and cleaning up after him that the physical side dwindled to nothing. 'Mohamed was only with me for my money. I can see that now, and I look back and think, 'How could I have been so stupid?' The Mohamed I met in Egypt was Prince Charming, but living in my bungalow he was like the Prince of Darkness.' Bank statements show Iris transferred Mohamed thousands over the course of a year, which she claims were loans he has not repaid – which Mohamed disputes. The last time she had any contact with her husband, she says, was when she emailed him last year asking for his address so she could speak to the Home Office about his stay in the UK. She says: 'All I got back was him telling me his solicitor's details. I did see him in my local Tesco a few months after I chucked him out. 'When he saw me he tried to run away and hide. I have asked for the money back but I've now made peace with the fact I will never see it again. I don't want to see him again either, but I don't hate him. 'He hasn't ruined my life. I have two lovely sons, two lovely daughters-in-law – a great family life. 'But I feel so much regret for the pain I caused them. They begged me not to marry him. But I didn't listen.' Despite the acrimony, divorce is not on the cards, Iris – who has been divorced before – reveals. She insists: 'I'm not paying out for a divorce. I'm not spending any more money on him. It would cost me more to divorce him than to stay married and I don't want to lose any more money.' Since her split, Iris says women who tell her they have been conned by romantic partners have contacted her asking for advice. She says: 'I feel like an agony aunt to them. It's very sad that what's happened to me is so common. Some age gap relationships can work. But I would urge women to be careful of relationships with much younger men. They can be genuine but mine wasn't.' These days Iris, who lives in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, has replaced her passion for sex with a new hobby. She reveals: 'I like drawing caricatures. I find it really therapeutic. I do it every day and post my pictures on social media. 'I do draw Mohamed all the time – one drawing shows him as a wolf in sheep's clothing.' When the couple appeared on This Morning, Mohamed told hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby: 'I love Iris to the point of madness.' He is still in the UK, and says: 'I have been employed legally in England as a welder in construction and as a security guard. 'I have worked hard I have paid tax and have never claimed any benefits since being here in this country. I have been accused of taking [thousands], where is the evidence? I never asked [Iris] for money. I was no scammer. I paid her housekeeping every month.'

Alison Hammond lost for words after being told she's 'repulsive'
Alison Hammond was rendered speechless after receiving an abusive message online. The This Morning presenter, 50, is beloved for her bubbly personality, infectious laugh, and always keeping it real on daytime telly. But while the nation has happily bestowed her with British icon status – which has been truly earned – it appears not everyone agrees. Taking to X last week, one critic simply had to let Alison know what they thought of her, much to everyone's shock. Sadly, the post from 77-year-old @PETER46760847 appeared to make its way to Alison's feed several days later, as she decided to respond last night. His original message read: 'Any time we see you are on TV we switch channels as you turn our stomachs being so fat and repulsive with a huge mouth.' Understandably astounded by the comment, all Alison could write back was: 'Wow !' It didn't take long for Alison's 400,000+ followers to leap to her defence, branding the remarks 'extremely mean and rude'. 'I'd just laugh at them babe, you're beautiful and they obviously are ugly on the inside', wrote @darloviper. 'What a horrible nasty person. How he can say that about you is beyond me, you never fail to make me smile even when I'm feeling low so thank you and keep being you xxx', added @DonnaRa01238683. @icon1_will implored her: 'keep on flooding his TV, WE LOVE YOU'. 'Listen Ali….Forget about those haters!!! Nothing better to do', agreed @jacquijdesigns. Others questioned why the individual was even tweeting Alison in the first place, given that his original tweet was replying to her pinned video, posted in 2021. The Big Brother star is, unfortunately, no stranger to calling out trolls. Last year, she clapped back at a derogatory message following her appearance on Channel 4's Celebrity Bake Off. The viewer tagged Alison and wrote: 'I imagine@AlisonHammond is a real nasty piece of work now, started to beleive her own hype [sic]'. Alison later replied with: 'Why is that I'll be having a lovely day and then someone who doesn't know from Adam writes such nasty message. 'Don't @ me keep Your nasty comment to yourself #bekind always.' When Alison became a This Morning regular alongside Dermot O'Leary in 2020, it's believed she had duty of care meetings with ITV bosses after being bombarded with hate online. Co-presenter Josie Gibson showed support for her after witnessing the barrage of abuse, saying: 'I can't believe some sad little sadsacks can be so vile to one of the most talented, infectious, caring, insanely hard-working, and one of the most beautiful souls on the planet.' She's also been forced to address backlash to her For the Love of Dogs signing, having taken over presenting duties of the much-loved ITV dog show following Paul O'Grady's death. Alison was admittedly 'surprised' by the criticism, telling Heat magazine: 'I could understand in the sense that Paul was so loved, but people were saying, 'How can she do it when she doesn't have a dog? How can she love dogs when she doesn't have one?'' 'It's like saying, 'How can you love children when you haven't got kids?' It's such a flawed argument for me, and all I would say is, if you don't want to watch it, don't watch it.' Trolling has likely only been made more upsetting for Alison over the years when her appearance has been attacked. Speaking on Lorraine Kelly and daughter Rosie's What If? podcast in 2022, she said of weight-shaming trolling: 'Oh my gosh, like every day. Literally, I'm sure there's a tweet or a message. I think I saw a message yesterday from someone, something along the lines of, '[You] need to lose 40 stone,' I'm thinking, 'I'm not even 40 stone!'' More Trending Alison added: 'That would mean I'd be nothing. I'd be dead. Stupid woman. She said that, and I get it all the time, and I know I'm overweight; everyone can see I'm overweight; it's not a surprise to know I'm overweight.' She declared that she likes 'taking up a little bit of space' and is 'OK with it' as she isn't 'hurting anyone.' Over the past year, Alison has been working with a personal trainer after having an 'adult' realisation about her health and lifestyle, opting for dietary changes rather than weight loss medication. Lucy Spraggan has to go through close pal Simon Cowell's partner to speak to him
X Factor star Lucy Spraggan, who has enjoyed a successful career since appearing on the talent show in 2012, has kept a close friendship with music mogul Simon Cowell Lucy Spraggan has said that she has to "go through" Lauren to speak to Simon Cowell, despite him walking her down the aisle. Simon and Lucy have been close ever since she competed on The X Factor back in 2012, but she still doesn't have direct contact with him. Lucy has said that Simon never gets in touch first and when she wants to speak to him, she has to go through his partner Lauren. However, this is due to the fact that Simon doesn't have his own personal mobile phone. Simon is only contactable through his fiancée Lauren Silverman due to this. Despite not having regular contact over the phone, Lucy said that she and her wife Emilia Smith often stay with Simon and Lauren at their homes in LA and the Cotswolds as well as going on holiday to Barbados. Lucy told The Sun: "I speak to Lauren all the time. But Simon hasn't got a phone so I speak to him when she's on the phone!" Simon played a big role at Lucy's wedding last year. He walked the singer down the aisle as well as reading a poem at the ceremony. It was during a holiday when Simon was asked by Lucy to do the honour. Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, the singer-songwriter said: "It's as nice to have a close bond with anyone. He's just a really remarkable guy, really individual person. "I speak about this a lot, there's a lot of people that have a lot of things to say about him, there's a bit of a mass perception that a lot of people can have and I can only go off the person that I've interacted with and I'll judge someone on their merit and how they've been with me. "I've had nothing but great times with Simon and had a lot of really important conversations, I think he's a great guy." Lucy was previously married to Georgina Gordon before they went their separate ways in 2019. The two of them talked about wanting to start a family together and they fostered 12 children during their six year marriage. However, Lucy has said now that she doesn't see children being in her future. She said: "I don't want kids. All of my friends that had kids are like, 'Luce - don't do it. I love them, but don't!' "Em has some health issues herself. And, like, I do music and I do my job so that I can experience peace in between. I feel like I couldn't give what I need to give to my career if I had a child, and I wouldn't have any f*****g peace If I had a child. It's dogs, dogs for me."
