Mohamed Salah leads nominations for PFA Men's Player of the Year award
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah leads a six-player shortlist for the Professional Footballers' Association Men's Player of the Year award.
The Egyptian was instrumental in the Reds' Premier League title success last season, scoring 29 goals and adding 18 assists.
Earlier this year he was voted footballer of the year by the Football Writers' Association, and will now be favourite to win the vote of his peers.
He is joined on the shortlist by team-mate Alexis Mac Allister, Arsenal's Declan Rice, Cole Palmer of Chelsea, Newcastle striker Alexander Isak and Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
Mac Allister was a key part of Liverpool's midfield, playing 35 times and contributing five goals and five assists.
Palmer won the PFA Men's Young Player of the Year award for 2023-24 and while he arguably did not hit the same heights for the Blues last season, he still hit 15 goals and helped Chelsea win the Conference League.
Rice starred in midfield for Arsenal, hitting a career-high nine goals while adding 10 assists in 52 appearances in all competitions.
Isak was a key part of Newcastle's success in qualifying for the Champions League and winning the Carabao Cup, hitting 23 goals for the Magpies.
Fernandes was a shining light in a largely disappointing campaign for Manchester United. He provided eight league goals and 10 assists for the Red Devils.

England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton hopes to ‘live up to the legacy' of Mary Earps

London City Lionesses make statement signing of Daniëlle van de Donk
London City Lionesses have made a statement of intent following promotion to the Women's Super League by completing the signing of Netherlands midfielder Daniëlle van de Donk. The independently-run club, who will play in the WSL for the first time next season after winning the Women's Championship title in May, have acquired the 33-year-old on a free transfer from record eight-time European champions Lyon, recently renamed as OL Lyonnes, following the conclusion of her contract. OL Lyonnes are, like London City Lionesses, owned by the American businesswoman, Michele Kang. Van de Donk won the WSL title winner with Arsenal in 2019 and was also part of the Netherlands squad that won the 2017 Women's European Championship and reached the final of the 2019 World Cup. She has signed a two-year contract with London City, who have made no secret of their ambitions to disrupt the established big-name of women's football in England. 'I'm feeling really good,' said Van de Donk, who is London City's first signing of the transfer window. 'It's such a nice environment to be in, the club really appeals to me, it reminds me of a little family, and I want to be a part of it. The project that London City have, it's different but in a good way. London City have to battle for everything and that's my style.' News of Van de Donk's return to the WSL came as the Football Association formally approved the expansion of the division from 12 to 14 clubs from the 2026-27 season.
