Wrexham's interest in Wales star Ben Davies remains strong despite Tottenham opting to extend the defender's contract, according to reports.
The former Swansea City man's deal was set to conclude at the end of June, which would have allowed the 32-year-old to depart on a free transfer from July 1. However, Spurs have decided to prolong his contract by an additional year.
Wrexham, owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, have been strongly associated with a move for Davies following their promotion to the Championship in April. At first glance, the decision to extend his deal appears to be a setback for the North Wales club's hopes of securing him during the summer transfer window.
However, the Mail suggests that Davies might still be permitted to exit in the coming months, provided a fair fee is agreed upon. It's been claimed that Tottenham's willingness to let him leave could also hinge on their success in acquiring Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.
Davies is currently the longest-serving player at Spurs, having transferred from Swansea in 2014. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson is anticipated to be active in the transfer window as he aims to bolster his squad following the team's third consecutive promotion.
Capable of playing both left-back and centre-back roles, Davies would offer versatility and a wealth of experience for the Red Dragons. He has played in 358 matches for Spurs across all competitions, scoring nine times and leading the team as captain on 13 occasions.

He divulged details about his initial earnings on ESPN's Gab and Juls Show. "It was £400 a week for playing in the Premier League," said Davies. "The Sun did a bit on their Goals pull-out - the front page of it. There was a picture of me with City's Yaya Toure and our salaries - £400 a week against £240,000 a week.
"I was getting messages on Twitter from plumbers saying, 'Come and work for me for a week.' But looking back it was probably a good thing."
Davies is now reportedly pocketing around £80,000 weekly at Spurs. Last season, under the since-sacked Ange Postecoglou, he made 28 appearances and is considered a well-liked figure within the team.

As Wrexham eye a big transfer move by drawing him to North Wales, Welsh compatriot Tony Pulis has advised Davies against the move. The ex-Stoke City boss suggested he should aim to stay at the peak of football for the longest period possible.
Pulis told BoyleSports: "To Ben Davies, I'd say that you should stay as high as you could for as long as you can. He's played quite regularly at Spurs this year and he's still in the national team and doing exceptionally well for them.

"I think Craig Bellamy relies on him quite a bit as well with his experience. So I wouldn't be in too much of a rush to jump out of the Premier League at the moment.
"Maybe one day, but not this year, I'd be very, very keen if I was him to have another year at least in the Premier League."
