Andaz Apna Apna Producer's Kids On Aamir Khan Announcing Sequel: 'We'll Never Sell Rights To Him'

News1825-04-2025

Vinay Sinha's kids say Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Santoshi don't own rights to Andaz Apna Apna sequel.
Aamir Khan may have left fans buzzing when he revealed that a sequel to Andaz Apna Apna with Salman Khan is in the works, but the late producer Vinay Kumar Sinha's children have now clarified that neither Aamir nor Rajkumar Santoshi owns the rights to the film. In a new interview with Lehren Retro, Priti Sinha, Amod Sinha, and Namrata Sinha—children of the original film's producer—set the record straight, asserting that their father was the sole rights holder of the cult classic and they haven't sold any rights to the actor or the filmmaker.
They pointed out that while Rajkumar Santoshi, who directed the original 1994 film, had often spoken about working on a sequel with their father, it never materialised. They said the script was discussed for years, with promises and meetings, but nothing came of it.
'Aamir was never a producer (of the film), he was just an actor. We will never sell the rights to him or Rajkumar Santoshi," they said. They added that although Aamir recently claimed that Rajkumar Santoshi is working on the sequel, only they as producers could announce it officially. 'Everyone can say they are writing the film. But if the producers don't announce the film, then it's only talk," Priti added.
They further revealed that their father and Santoshi had been close collaborators and had almost formalised a sequel deal, but the project never advanced. They questioned why the sequel didn't happen while their father was still alive, despite so much groundwork.
When asked if they would consider Santoshi to helm the sequel, the siblings said no decision had been made yet. However, they hoped that if a sequel is made with Aamir and Salman, they as producers will be a part of it, as that had always been the understanding between their father and Santoshi.
Interestingly, they also shared how Salman Khan had advised them to re-release the film during the shoot of Ready. Paresh Rawal too encouraged them to promote the re-release on social media. Both Salman and Aamir supported the film's renewed release efforts, but Rajkumar Santoshi was absent from the promotions due to his work on Lahore 1947.
Aamir had recently told the media, 'We would all want Andaz Apna Apna 2. We have told Raj ji to work on the script. As soon as his script is ready, Salman and I would definitely want to work on it."
Andaz Apna Apna, which originally featured Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor, Paresh Rawal and Shakti Kapoor, became a cult comedy over the years. The story revolves around two slackers trying to woo an heiress, only to fall in love with different women after mistaken identities and hilarious mishaps. The film has now re-released in theatres on April 25.

Aamir Khan breaks down recalling his decision to quit films: 'I knew what my directors' dreams and fears were, but not my own children's'

Before the release of Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan broke down in tears while speaking about a deeply personal phase in his life, one where he contemplated walking away from films to make up for the time he felt he lost with his children and family. The superstar, who has been a part of Indian cinema for over three decades, shared that the Covid-19 pandemic was a turning point that made him reassess his priorities. 'I had not given them any time' Aamir recounted how, during the lockdown, he realised just how much he had neglected his personal life in pursuit of his career. 'All these 18 years of my life were filled with passion, magic and a craze for creativity,' he said in an emotional appearance on Aap Ki Adalat. 'But I was 56, and I started thinking — what have I done with my family, my children, my ammi, and my siblings? I had not given them any time.' With tears in his eyes, the Dangal star shared that his children Ira and Junaid were already in their twenties, and he had no idea what their childhood dreams or insecurities were. 'I knew what my directors' (Ashutosh Gowariker) dreams and fears were, but not my own children's. When I realised this, I was depressed for three days.' Aamir's decision to quit and what changed his mind It was during this time that Aamir decided Laal Singh Chaddha would be his last film. He informed his family and even called Sitaare Zameen Par director RS Prasanna to step away from acting in the project. But it was his children, and ex-wife Kiran Rao, who eventually pulled him back. 'Junaid told me, 'Papa, you're being an extremist. Earlier you gave everything to films, and now you want to give everything to us. There's a middle path.'' Ira, too, expressed that he had already spent significant time with them, and they had their own lives to lead. Kiran, visibly moved, told Aamir, 'You are a child of cinema. If you leave films, you'll leave us too. Don't do that.' Their words struck a chord. Box Office Trends: Sitaare Zameen Par explodes with 200 percent jump from Friday to Sunday; Aamir Khan roars back into spotlight

The Aamir Khan led Sitaare Zameen Par has gone on an overdrive on Sunday, with early trends indicating third day business in the range of Rs 28.50 crore to Rs 30.50 crore. While a Rs 28 crore plus dayis assured, there is an outside chance for the film to even hit the Rs 31 crore mark, depending on how the film performs in the late evening and night shows. With this, the 3 day weekend of Sitaare Zameen Par stands at Rs 60.00 crore, and the film will be looking to record a superlative trend in the coming weeks. The film is showing an insane trend at the box-office, as rarely have we seen films jump from the Rs 10 crore mark on Friday to Rs 30 crore (200 percent up) mark on Sunday, more so in the post pandemic world. But again, Aamir Khan too has not arrived with a good content film in the last 5 years, and the master has now scripted his own comeback by going against the tide. Aamir happens to be one of the biggest crowd pullers of Indian Cinema, and it was just a matter of good film for him to re-establish the connect with his audience, which has now happened with Sitaare Zameen Par if the weekend trend is anything to go by. Sitaare Zameen Par is showing a near 60 percent spike in business in the national multiplex chains, as the film has hit Rs 12.10 crore on Sunday at 3 PM in PVRInox and Cinepolis, as compared to Rs 7.90 crore on Saturday at the same time. The film is headed to collect Rs 20.00 crore in the national chains by end of Sunday, growing about 42 percent from Saturday. The hearting sign rests in the fact that the non-national chains and single screens too have come on board Sitaare Zameen Par on Sunday, which is an indication of the film looking to sustain well in the long run. Sitaare Zameen Par had everything going against it prior to the release, being a remake, with not-so-impactful music, a non-action social dramedy devoid of a big star cast, but all it took is positive talk from the audience to turn the tides in its favour. And one must give complete credit to Aamir Khan for sticking to his conviction with this RS Prasanna directorial. These are still estimates based on the very early trends and the actuals will be reported by the end of day. Here's a look at the day wise box office collections of Sitaare Zameen Par Friday: Rs 10.50 crore Saturday: Rs 19.50 crore Sunday: Rs 29.50 crore (Expected) Total: Rs 59.50 crore
