Michigan football loses 4-star CB target to rival school for 2026 recruiting class
Michigan football is set to hold its final official visit weekend of the late spring, early summer, and the Wolverines are hoping that it pays dividends. With three weekends preceding, the maize and blue knocked it out of the park with some prospects, but with others, perhaps they fell a little short.
The Wolverines currently have one cornerback committed to the 2026 class in Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin four-star Brody Jennings, but there are a handful of other corners that the maize and blue have ben in strong contention for. Michigan is hosting Carrollton (Ga.) four-star corner Dorian Barney this weekend, and appears to be in the lead for Frisco (Tx.) Panther Creek four-star Donovan Webb. But perhaps atop the wish list was Towson (Md.) Loyola Blakefield four-star Khary Adams.
Ranked the No. 36 player in the country according to 247Sports, Adams had long appeared to be strongly considering Michigan football, Penn State, and Oregon. But ultimately, Notre Dame ended up winning out, as Adams pledged to the Irish on Friday.
With Adams off the board, the Wolverines will likely work extra hard to keep Jennings in the fold -- which will be a challenge given that he's being highly pursued by the Florida schools and others within the SEC-ACC footprint. Webb could be the second addition, and he's starting to trend towards the Wolverines since his visit.

McCarthy didn't throw for over 3,000 yards in either of his full-time starting seasons, but that's because he didn't need to. He didn't have as many yards as a lot of other top QBs, but he also didn't throw the ball as much. A perfect example to illustrate McCarthy's efficiency is that he completed over 72% of his passes during his final season with the Wolverines. When Michigan needed him to throw the ball, he did. Still, people that just look at his yardage totals aren't sold. 'A lot of [the public doubt] just comes with the stigma of playing at Michigan and not throwing the ball a lot,' McCarthy said, according to an article from ESPN. 'But at the same time, it could be my frame. They don't see a 6-5, 240-[pound] guy, so how can you throw at 61 miles an hour at the combine? But at the end of the day, it's going to show up and the people that know, know.' One thing that JJ McCarthy is definitely not lacking is confidence. He has always known that he has the ability to be successful, and he has never worried about what other people think of him. He just performs and wins. A lot of good things have been said about him so far this offseason, and it sounds like McCarthy is in a good spot. 'It's been awesome,' McCarthy said, 'because they've really pushed the limits on just what I can handle, and that's what I asked for. I'd rather sweat in training and limit the bleeding on the battlefield when we get there.' A new QB era is about to begin in Minnesota. The Vikings selected JJ McCarthy because they thought that he had the potential to be their next franchise QB. Because of last year's injury, the wait has been long as fans are eager to see the first-round pick in action, and McCarthy is ready to show Minnesota that it got a good one. Notre Dame softball commit Ava Zachary named Miss Softball Indiana
Future Fighting Irish infielder hit over .500 en route to award A Notre Dame softball signee has been named Indiana's Miss Softball. Ava Zachary hit .543 with 60 RBI in 32 games for Penn High School in Mishawaka, Ind. She's the first player from Penn to win the state's highest award for a softball player. Mishawaka, of course, is in the South Bend area, so Zachary will be staying close to home when she heads to Notre Dame's campus. The left-handed hitting Zachary plays third base and she helped lead Penn to a 2023 state championship. She's been a four-time First-Team All-Northern Indiana Conference selection. 'It means everything,' Zachary told her school paper, The Pennant. 'It's such a surreal moment. I'm super grateful for this opportunity and the opportunity that Penn softball has given me the past four years. It was an amazing moment to stand up there with all the other amazing talent in Indiana and to hear my name be read. This is so much more than an individual award. It's an award for all the girls at Penn who have ever played Softball, and all the girls who played next to me the last four years and worked so hard and gave such a great effort every day.' 'This award just means I have to get back to work, Zachary said. "I have to work 10 times harder now and work to get better day-in and day-out.' Notre Dame offered Teddy Jarrard and Peyton Houston, the first 2027 QB's to get one
While Notre Dame football is on another one of its recruiting hot streaks in the 2026 cycle, that doesn't mean they aren't looking ahead to future classes. That's exactly what happened on Saturday, as the Irish offered two quarterbacks scholarships, their first one's of the 2027 cycle. The first one went out to Teddy Jarrard, a 6-foot, 3-inch and 190-pound Georgia native. He's currently ranked as the No. 217 overall prospect in the class by the 247Sports Composite, and also has offers from Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State and multiple others. The other quarterback to get an offer was Peyton Houston, a 5-foot, 11-inch and 198-pound prospect out of Louisiana. He's ranked by the 247Sports Composite as the country's No. 85 player, and not surprisingly has an LSU offer among others. The Irish would surely love to stick it to former head coach Brian Kelly, as in just three short years Marcus Freeman has proved that he was wrong about his assessment of the Notre Dame program. You have to like where the Irish are starting off on their 2027 quarterback recruiting, as both of these offers are to high-level players who have tons of ability. More will surely be offered in the coming months, but it has to mean a lot to each of them that Notre Dame first offers to that class for the position were Jarrard and Houston.
