An Edinburgh marketing director and LGBTQ+ activist was allegedly the subject of shocking homophobic abuse just hours after winning an inclusivity award.
Jamie Love, CEO of marketing agency Monumental and Pride Edinburgh's marketing director, was on the way home from Glasgow on Saturday night when an 'aggressive' passenger boarded.
According to Jamie, the individual immediately began touching his hair and irritating his colleagues on the train to Edinburgh.
Jamie says the man's behaviour soon escalated when he repeatedly called him a "fa**ot". One of his female then confronted the man and has since posted a clip of him on TikTok.
Jamie, while onboard, alerted police to the abuse as the man got off at Falkirk. British Transport Police officers were waiting at Edinburgh Waverley and spoke to Jamie and his colleagues about the incident.
The abuse has since been described as "quite shocking" by Jamie, who added how it was "quite sad" considering hours earlier he won the Impact Award at the Proud Scotland Awards in recognition of its contribution to the LGBTQ+ community.

Jamie claims the attack was unprovoked and he was targeted for his perceived sexuality and presentation.
Jamie said: "The most jarring part is the irony - being recognised for creating safer spaces and driving inclusion, only to be targeted for who I am hours later. It's a sobering reminder of how far we still have to go. No one should have to experience hate for simply existing.
"I've never been in a position where I've had to call the police so it's quite sad. The guy got on as three of us were sat at a table but the train was packed.
"He got on and immediately went to touch my hair. I said please don't touch me and his friend was trying to push him away. He then started getting aggressive, it was chaos.
"That's when the slurs started and he started picking on a colleague of mine. It's weird going from a diversity awards night to that in a matter of hours. It's quite shocking."
British Transport Police were approached for comment.

CCTV footage has been released after a man on Glasgow train assaulted and robbed. An image of a man wearing a blue and yellow Boca Juniors top on a ScotRail train has been published as the British Transport Police wish to speak to the person in connection with an assault. The incident took place on board a train between Glasgow Queen Street and Balloch near Clydebank at around 9pm on April 30 when a man was assaulted by another man who stole his backpack and fled the train at Clydebank. The person cops wish to speak to is described as white, aged in his late 30s or early 40s, around 5ft11, with medium brown hair. He was wearing grey jogging bottoms and a blue football top. Officers would urge the male or any members of the public who recognise him to contact police. Anyone with information is urged to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40 with the reference 745 of 30 April 2025. Remaining calm, the train worker tries to reduce the tension by asking the passenger to sit. The worker can be heard saying: 'I'm just gonna ask you to take a seat - come on, let's take a seat.' The passenger then raised his voice, shouting 'I'm going to break your face. You're lucky' at the worker. Then, he waved his hand towards the managers while appearing to hold his mobile phone. In response, the manager said: 'Don't point that in my face. 'I need to close the café bar. Don't put that in my face please.' However, the passenger continued to be aggressive and shouted 'shut your mouth. Try it now'. The shocking event has been confirmed to have taken place on March 16, though the train's destination remains unknown. The Sun has contacted the British Transport Police and LNER for comment on the incident onboard the train. In a separate incident on board a train bound for King's Cross on July 2, 2024, another man can be seen shouting at a ticket collector. The week is aimed at supporting staff who have been victims of abuse by passengers, while promoting sensible behaviour for train users. The video surfaced just as news came in that a man was arrested in London for allegedly having a gun, whilst on a tube platform. Cops raced to Elm Park Underground station at 7am to arrest the 61-year-old. Investigations into the incident are now underway and police are appealing to witnesses for more information. A spokesperson for the police said: 'Officers were called just after 7am today (June 19) to Elm Park Underground station following reports of a man in possession of a firearm. "Officers attended, and a 61-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and taken into custody. 'Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016, or by calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 109 of 19 June.'

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) has released the clips to highlight how the use of body worn cameras is helping to keep the railway safe. LNER has introduced 180 body worn cameras to provide additional support for colleagues faced with aggressive and threatening behaviour. Over the past year, the cameras have been worn more than 12,000 times by teams on trains and at stations. LNER routes cover stations including Wakefield Westgate, Leeds, York, Doncaster, Peterborough, and at stops between Newcastle and Edinburgh Waverley. Most of the time working onboard is enjoyable and the camera is the last thing on my mind. However, on occasions where I have been confronted with a challenging situation, I find activating the camera very often calms things down, provides reassurance for other customers, and also helps with any instances which may need further investigation.' Warrick Dent, Safety and Operations Director for LNER, said: 'Thousands of customers travel with us each day, and while instances of abusive or threatening behaviour towards our teams are rare, they are never acceptable. Body worn cameras are just one of the ways we support our teams who work hard to help make sure our customers enjoy the best possible journey and feel safe when travelling with us.' Inspector Ben Jones, from the Workplace Violence Coordination Unit in the British Transport Police, said: 'The impact body worn video has had on keeping rail staff safe and prosecuting criminals cannot be understated. Body worn video helps to accelerate the judicial process for victims, provide transparency in cases, and assist rail staff in the many challenging situations they face every single day. Wearing body worn video decreases staff assault rates by nearly 50 percent. We are dedicated to creating a hostile environment for criminals on the railways, and the continued rollout of BWV across rail operators can only further this ambition.'
