Goretzka eyes long-term Bayern stay after impressive comeback
Just a year ago, the German international was considered a potential departure at Bayern. Told he might struggle for minutes, Goretzka was widely seen as a candidate for the transfer list. But under new head coach Vincent Kompany, the 30-year-old turned things around in emphatic fashion.
'I'm not planning to leave. Why would I?' Goretzka told Welt am Sonntag. 'My plan is definitely to play for Bayern next season.'
Goretzka, whose current contract runs until the summer of 2026, played 40 competitive matches this season and reclaimed his spot in the national team setup. He credits Bayern and his surroundings for his resurgence.
'I feel incredibly comfortable at this club and in this city. I love Bayern München, the people here, and my teammates. We have a great group,' he said. 'This club deserves to win titles, and I believe something big is taking shape again. I definitely see myself as part of that.'
Though Goretzka remains committed, a contract extension is not currently on the table, according to Sky Germany. That could leave his future wide open in the 2025 summer transfer window.
The midfielder also spoke candidly about being left out of Germany's squad for the Euro 2024 tournament on home soil, an omission he called 'the biggest disappointment' of his career. Before being recalled by Julian Nagelsmann, the two had a conversation to clear the air.
'We couldn't just move on without addressing things,' Goretzka said. 'It was obvious that we needed to talk.'
He also credited his inner circle, including family and close friends, for helping him stay grounded during a tough stretch, and singled out Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeneß for support.
'Uli always had a good sense of when to reach out. We had many important conversations. He's always been there for me.'

Eagles' Jordan Davis hosting free football clinic with Philly-area violence prevention org
A Philadelphia nonprofit is partnering with an Eagles player to offer more than football drills. It's creating a safe space for young boys to develop character, confidence and a sense of community. Open Door Abuse Awareness and Prevention, founded by coach Valencia "Coach V" Peterson, is hosting a free football clinic on Saturday, June 21, at Mastery Charter from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is open to all 10-year-old boys across Philadelphia. "By age 12, their mindset is already changing," Peterson said. "By 14, they could be caught up in violence. We want to reach them before that happens, before intervention becomes the only option." Between drills, athletes will learn how to process emotions, de-escalate conflict and support each other — on and off the field. "In between drills, we teach a principle about violence prevention. Then we get them right back into the game," Peterson said. "It sticks." Joining the clinic is Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jordan Davis, who hopes to show young boys the power of discipline and teamwork. "I could talk all day about the way that football has helped me in my life, personally, and I feel like it's my duty to give that to someone else," Davis said. "When your mind is the clearest, it's on the football field." Coach V says the field is where boys learn to be men, and brothers. "I've seen the change in boys over my 10 years in this work," Peterson said. "Football is just the tool. We're building something bigger." Select teams will also receive a $3,000 grant to support local neighborhood sports.

Bayern Munich secure qualification after defeating Boca Juniors
Bayern Munich became the first European team to defeat a South American side after a 2-1 win over Boca Juniors. The Bundesliga side were quickly on top against Boca in Miami and thought they had taken the lead in the eighth minute when Michael Olise scored directly for a corner. The goal was initially given but overturned by VAR due to to Sèrge Gnabry very obviously wrestling Agustín Marchesín to the ground. Advertisement Bayern's momentum continued though and they took the lead in the 18th minute when a cross from the right fell to Harry Kane to tuck the ball away. Boca did well to go into the break only one goal down with Bayern missing chances while still dominating possession. The Argentinian team equalised in the 66th minute with an excellent goal. Alan Velasco released Miguel Merentiel down the right hand side and the Uruguyan past Josip Stanisic before firing past Manuel Neuer. Bayern took time to respond to Boca's equaliser with the Argentinian side doing their best to keep Vincent Kompany's side at bay. Advertisement That resistance was broken in the 84th minute with the ball bouncing around the Boca box before Kane was able to lay the ball off to Olise. The former Crystal Palace then curled his effort past Marchesín to restore his side's lead. Bayern almost made it 3-1 soon after a one-two between Konrad Laimer and Thomas Müller but Laimer was just offside when he received the ball. In the end, it was a deserved win for Bayern who have booked their spot into the qualifying round ahead of their final game against Benfica. Boca meanwhile will be looking to bounce back against Auckland City.

Al Hilal to resume talks for Angelino after Club World Cup
Angelino remains an important target for Al Hilal. The negotiations between Roma and Al Hilal for the transfer of the Spanish fullback seemed close to being concluded at the beginning of June, only to then suffer an abrupt slowdown. Advertisement The Saudi club, as reported by Il Tempo, wanted the Spanish full-back available for the Club World Cup, but the timing did not allow them to finalize the operation before the start of the tournament. Now, according to Filippo Biafora, the trail remains hot and contacts between the parties should resume negotiations once the competition in the United States is over.
