Cyber Square hosts region's premier student tech expo at University of Dubai

Cyber Square, a global innovator in AI education, in collaboration with the University of Dubai, successfully hosted the 5th International Digital Fest, which is widely recognized as the largest student technology expo of its kind, on 10 May 2025. Held on the vibrant campus of the University of Dubai, the Fest welcomed over 800 attendees, comprising students, educators, school leaders, and parents from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and India.
Over 330 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 presented pioneering projects in key areas of emerging technology, including Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, the Internet of Things, Web and Mobile Application Development, and Animation. The Fest provided a high-caliber platform for young innovators to display their vision and technical prowess before a global audience.
'At Cyber Square, we believe in igniting curiosity and enabling purpose-driven innovation among the children,' said NP Haris, CEO of Cyber Square. 'This Fest serves as a transformative space where students are inspired to push boundaries, think critically, and create solutions that matter,' he added.
The event was formally inaugurated by Dr. Eesa Mohammed Al Bastaki, President of the University of Dubai, who emphasized the importance of cultivating innovation at an early age. 'This is not merely a competition,' Dr. Al Bastaki remarked, 'but a celebration of the creative intellect and potential that our future leaders possess.'
The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Alavi Kunju Panthakan, Associate Professor at the University of Dubai. A distinguished roster of educators and industry professionals offered keynote insights, including Mubashir Thayyil (Senior Architect, AI & Analytics – Cognizant UK), Dr. Najeeb Mohamed (Director, Ansar English School), Suma Paul, principal of Assisi Vidyaniketan Public School, and NP Haris (CEO, Cyber Square).
Among the numerous accolades awarded, Vygha Praveen Nayana of the International Indian School, Ajman, earned first place in the Tech Talk category. Sayed Muhammed of Sadhbavana World School, Kozhikode, India, secured top honors in the AI/Robotics category. Additional winners included exceptional students from Grace Valley Indian School, Indian Public School, Ras Al Khaimah, and Peace Public School, Kottakal.
To honour outstanding contributions, Cyber Square presented a series of prestigious awards, including the Tech Visionary Award, the School of Tomorrow Award, and the Coding & AI National Pioneer Award, India. These awards recognize schools and educators who are driving excellence in technology integration and digital learning.
The event was made possible through a strategic partnership with the University of Dubai and was supported by a network of committed schools and education leaders across the region. Cyber Square has announced that the next edition of the World Digital Fest will be hosted at MIT, Cambridge, USA, in 2026, with another international event scheduled in the UAE the same year. Both are expected to draw over 1,000 student participants.

The launch aligns with efforts to implement the Arab Index for Artificial Intelligence in Universities, announced in May 2024, and formalised at the 5th Artificial Intelligence Journalism World Forum in Sharjah earlier this year. President of the University of Dubai, Dr Eesa Al Bastaki, explained that AAIR responds to a growing call for universities in Arab states to embed AI into scholarly work and curricula. He noted that the programme reflects the aim of the AIU, which benchmarks integration across six domains: curriculum design, faculty capabilities, smart laboratory infrastructure, student proficiency, research output, and global partnerships. ADVERTISEMENT Dr Saeed Al Dhaheri, Director of the Centre for Futures Studies and President of the AIU, emphasised the initiative's breadth. 'AAIR offers specialised training to integrate AI across all academic tiers,' he said, underscoring the programme's ambition to reach a wide academic audience across the Arab world. That ambition gains momentum in tandem with AIJRF's global training portfolio of more than 120 courses and over 20 active AI initiatives, which includes the annual AIJWF and the GAIJI index. Under the leadership of AIJRF's CEO Dr Mohamed Abdulzaher, AAIR will offer a free, accredited training programme conducted thrice yearly. Each session will involve four days of intensive instruction—totalising 15 practical hours—for approximately 150 participants. Graduates, upon submission of a project, will receive certification jointly from AIJRF, the University of Dubai and cooperating institutions. Dr Abdulzaher emphasised the programme's dual focus: practical AI tool use in research and instruction that covers emerging pedagogical approaches such as smart classrooms, automated assignments and AI‑generated project frameworks, underpinned by ethical guidelines. Experts highlight the significance of AAIR against a backdrop of evolving demand for localised AI capacity in the region's higher education sector. Gulf News records that the Arab Index for AIU initially pioneered this area by evaluating Arab universities on their strategic integration of AI into humanities and theoretical sciences, spanning institutions from Morocco to Qatar. This quantitative benchmarking now finds practical implementation through AAIR. The initiative affords multiple strategic gains. It aims to develop an Arab‑centred community of practice in AI, offer Arabic‑language curricular resources, and foster collaborations among universities, research centres and technology providers. Dubai Electronic Security Centre Launches Student Cybersecurity Training Programme

The Dubai Electronic Security Centre (DESC) has opened registration for its latest Cyberspace Leaders Programme, an immersive summer initiative aimed at equipping school students aged 13 to 18 with essential cybersecurity skills . The programme will run from 30 June to 10 July at the University of Dubai. Held in collaboration with the Dubai Cyber Innovation Park, the University of Dubai, EMT, and Tech Firm, the initiative reflects DESC's commitment to building a digitally aware youth prepared to defend Dubai's cyberspace. The programme will run daily from 9 AM to 1 PM, combining theoretical knowledge with practical workshops. Yousuf Hamad Al Shaibani, Chief Executive of DESC, highlighted the programme's role in nurturing national talent and reinforcing Dubai's digital resilience. 'Empowering future generations with specialized digital expertise is a cornerstone for strengthening Dubai's global competitiveness,' he said. Participants will begin with foundational topics such as cybersecurity basics, password strength, and digital hygiene. They will also engage in interactive challenges to test their understanding in real-time. Advanced sessions will explore antivirus systems, Wi-Fi protection, and home network security, alongside hands-on training in identifying and mitigating cyber threats. CRA launches digital literacy initiative with RIPE NCC, Cisco and Huawei

The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) in Qatar has launched a joint capacity-building initiative aimed at strengthening digital literacy and public awareness of emerging technologies in Qatar, in collaboration with the Réseaux IP Européens Network Coordination Centre (RIPE NCC), Cisco via Qatar Digital Academy which is under the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, and Huawei. This initiative aims to promote capacity development by delivering RIPE NCC, Cisco, and Huawei’s online training and webinars through the CRA platform. The initiative is designed to enhance public digital awareness and facilitate broad access to knowledge in key technological areas, including the Internet of Things (IoT), cybersecurity, IPv6, routing security, 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), Internet governance, and digital infrastructure. The online sessions are delivered by a select group of specialized experts and target various segments of society, including students, professionals, and technology enthusiasts.
