Tracking t-storms late Sunday and Monday, multi-day severe threat

Yahoo18-05-2025

A sunny and warm Saturday afternoon and evening will give way to returning rain and t-storm chances by Sunday evening, as a low pressure system moves into the region. Storms will pose a severe risk late Sunday with damaging winds and hail being the primary threats locally, mainly after 7 PM and into the overnight hours. Multiple rounds of thunderstorm activity are likely once again on Monday, posing a secondary severe threat with all hazards possible, including damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes through Monday night. Heavy rainfall could also result in localized flooding, with 2 - 4 inches of rain forecast across Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas through Tuesday. Stay weather aware Sunday and Monday as storms fire and track across the region. Lingering rain and t-storm chances early Tuesday will give way to a cool and dry spell, with below average temperatures likely by the middle of next week.

NEXT Weather Alert this weekend in Minnesota for dangerous heat, humidity

Saturday and Sunday are both NEXT Weather Alert days in Minnesota due to dangerous heat and humidity. An extreme heat warning is in effect for most of Minnesota and Wisconsin from noon Saturday through 9 p.m. Sunday. Highs will reach the mid 90s on Saturday with sunshine and breezy winds. With the humidity, it'll feel like the 100s. This will likely be the Twin Cities' hottest day since September 2023 — and could potentially set a daily record high. Expect more of the same on Sunday with highs back in the mid 90s and heat index values up to 110 degrees in the metro. A cold front will drop through on Sunday night into Monday, bringing another round of showers and storms, along with more comfortable weather as highs return to the 70s for the rest of the week. It looks like the front will stall across southern Minnesota, bringing more showers and storms Tuesday through Thursday. Click here for more information on how to stay safe amid this heat wave.

Extreme Heat Warning in effect from Sunday through Wednesday for the Pittsburgh area

After a few scattered showers and storms Friday evening, conditions begin dry with mostly cloudy skies across Western Pennsylvania and Northern West Virginia. A thunderstorm complex moving around the periphery of our developing heat ridge will likely bypass us to the northeast today, with a low chance of a shower or storm northeast of Pittsburgh up to the I-80 corridor. The rest of our area should see mostly cloudy skies this morning with decreasing clouds and temperatures heating up by late afternoon with highs in the upper 80s. High temperatures and rain chances on Saturday in Western Pennsylvania KDKA Weather Center Our first bout of excessive heat of the summer builds in starting Sunday as a strong ridge of high pressure aloft in the atmosphere, a.k.a. a "heat dome," shifts from the Central US to the Eastern US. WEATHER LINKS: Current Conditions | School Closings & Delays | Submit Your Weather Photos Humidity levels will start to increase Saturday afternoon, but will become most noticeable on Sunday. Sunday will likely feature our first 90-degree day of the year, with plenty of opportunities into next week as well. Most models agree that the core of the heat dome will peak in intensity and park directly over the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic states Monday and Tuesday next week. Watches and warnings in place for the region KDKA Weather Center The saving grace for the Pittsburgh metro is that our soils are very moist, and the evaporation of this moisture should keep afternoon air temperatures in check, mostly reaching the low to mid-90s. Despite this, it will be VERY humid, and this will lead to heat indices around 100 degrees and hotter from Monday through Wednesday during the afternoon. High temperatures and heat index over the next week KDKA Weather Center As far as records go, the days Pittsburgh will be closest to record highs will be Monday (95F set in 1894) and Tuesday (96F set in 1882). DuBois and Morgantown, West Virginia, which are other sites in our coverage area that keep long-term climate records, may also break record highs during the Monday to Wednesday stretch. While we may stay just shy of record highs, record warm low temperatures are very likely to be met in Pittsburgh, along with Morgantown and DuBois. Air temperatures will struggle to drop below 70°F at night, which makes this heat very dangerous for those who don't have air conditioning. Extreme heat is the leading killer of all weather-related hazards, so individuals should take precautions in this upcoming stretch. We'll be approaching near-record warm low temperatures this week KDKA Weather Center As far as rain chances go for this week, we may see a stray shower or storm pop up in the heat of the day on Tuesday because of how hot temperatures will be near the ground. Slightly better chances of showers and storms look plausible on Wednesday and Thursday as the core of the heat ridge breaks down and a weak front moves into the area. Rain chances over the next week KDKA Weather Center This front does not look as potent as in earlier model runs, so it is possible the stretch of 90-degree weather may continue all the way through the end of the week. 7-day forecast: June 21, 2025 KDKA Weather Center Stay up to date with the KDKA Mobile App – which you can download here!

Dangerous, potentially record breaking, heat building in

Welcome to the weekend! Heat is building in and will be reaching potentially dangerous and record-breaking levels starting on Sunday. The WJZ First Alert Weather Team has issued a string of Alert Days for the extreme heat starting Sunday into the middle of the upcoming week. Saturday, however, will still be hot but not as much as we'll see starting Sunday. High temperatures will reach the low to mid-90s. Feels like temperatures peak in the mid to upper 90s this afternoon. The second day of AFRAM will be the first of a string of Alert Days. High temperatures peak closer to 100° for the first time this year. This will be very similar to what we felt during AFRAM last year. When you factor in the humidity, it'll feel like the low to mid-100s. Monday and Tuesday look to be slightly hotter (and most likely the worst days of the stretch). Wednesday will be a couple of degrees 'cooler' - back into the upper 90s but the high humidity will push the feels like temperature/heat index over 100° again. The heat wave will continue into the late week as highs continue to surpass 90° Thursday and Friday. Storm chances return later this week and that could provide some slight relief. Heat tips: Wear loose fitting, light colored clothing Take frequent breaks if you plan to be outdoors Drink lots of water, even if you don't feel thirsty Remember pets and the elderly in the heat Forecast highs vs records for June 22-25, 2025
