Zach Gowen Reacts To Ricochet Assaulting Him In Front Of His Family

Yahoo14-05-2025

Zach Gowen returns to the ring for the first time in almost a year to face Ricochet this Wednesday on AEW Dynamite.
Thursday night on AEW Collision, Ricochet mocked Zach Gowen in front of his family as they sat at ringside for the event. As Ricochet attacked security who tried to diffuse the situation, Gowen hit the ring but was overwhelmed by Ricochet, who stole his leg in the process. This altercation will lead to a match between the two men in Chicago at the Dynamite: Beach Break special.

Following the attack on Thursday, Zach Gowen spoke to AEW for social media with his children at his side, delivering a very inspiring and powerful message ahead of his match against Ricochet.
'You know, life always seems to put me in impossible situations to overcome. Yet I always overcome,' Zach Gowen said. 'The Gowens always overcome. It's what we do. Overcoming cancer to become the world's first one-legged professional wrestling superstar. Climbing a mountain with 11 other amputees.
'It doesn't matter you put a challenge in front of me, I'm going to overcome. This is what I teach my boys: that life is not about what happens to us. Life is about how we respond to what happens to us. And Ricochet, it's time for me to overcome one more time, because you're going to see me, Zach Gowen, in an AEW ring next Wednesday.'

Tommy Dreamer Compares Recent WWE Signing To Joining The New York Yankees

Recently, WWE signed one of the hottest free agents in town. It was none other than former AEW Women's World Champion Mariah May. The Glamor now goes by the name Blake Monroe in NXT. Following her appearance on the Tuesday Night show, former WWE Hardcore Champion Tommy Dreamer compared her arrival on NXT to a baseball player getting signed by the New York Yankees. While speaking on the latest episode of the Busted Open Radio podcast, Tommy Dreamer shared why professional wrestlers want to sign with WWE. He also compared the signing to athletes wanting to join legendary sports teams such as the New York Yankees. Advertisement 'I think there are those … established franchises that, like in any sport — 'Oh, I want to be a Yankee.' Why? Because they're the oldest, they've been around, it's the 'Pride of the Yankees. They've always been glamorized as the 'it' team.' [H/T WrestlingINC.] Dreamer also mentioned that while both All Elite Wrestling and WWE are airing Live on National Television, professional wrestlers want to compete in a WWE ring. 'They're both on national television, but to become a global WWE superstar is what a lot of men and women aspire to be. It's the allure of what WWE can do for you for the rest of your life,' Tommy Dreamer said. [H/T WrestlingINC.] Advertisement Blake Monroe officially signed her NXT contract last night on NXT. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A recently released WWE star has commented on AEW running a show in his hometown, sparking conversation about his next move. The star in question is Joe Coffey, formerly of NXT's Gallus faction. AEW is scheduled to hold an episode of Dynamite in Glasgow, Scotland, in August. The event will take place at the OVO Hydro arena. Joe Coffey on AEW's Glasgow Show On a recent episode of the "Reffin' It Up" podcast (transcript from Fightful), Joe Coffey noted the significance of the upcoming AEW event. He pointed out that it is taking place in his hometown and in a familiar venue. "AEW have a show in my hometown in Glasgow on August 20th, which is very interesting," Coffey said. "And The Hydro, the same arena that ICW ran so, that's very interesting..." WWE Release and Scrapped Plans Joe Coffey, along with his Gallus stablemates Mark Coffey and Wolfgang, was released from his WWE contract on May 2, 2025. The Scottish faction had been a consistent presence on the NXT brand for several years. Following his release, Coffey revealed there had been discussions about Gallus moving to the main roster. The plan would have seen them working alongside fellow countryman Drew McIntyre. Joe Coffey's Current Status Despite the potential interest in the AEW Glasgow show, Coffey's immediate future has a significant hurdle. He has recently stated that he is "landlocked" in the United States. His work visa was tied to his WWE contract, complicating his ability to travel and wrestle internationally for now. Coffey first appeared in WWE during an NXT event at the Download Festival in 2018. He, his brother Mark, and Wolfgang officially formed Gallus on the January 9, 2019, episode of NXT UK. WWE broke into the United Kingdom wrestling scene, NXT UK, began with a championship tournament in January 2017, won by Tyler Bate. The brand officially launched its weekly show in October 2018, establishing a platform for European talent. NXT UK featured its own set of championships, including the prestigious United Kingdom Championship, famously held by GUNTHER (then WALTER) for a record 870 days. The brand developed future main roster stars like Rhea Ripley and Pete Dunne. In September 2022, the brand held its final event, Worlds Collide, unifying its titles with the NXT championships before going on hiatus. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports.

AEW star Brody King wears ‘Abolish ICE' shirt at show in Mexico

All Elite Wrestling star Brody King wore an 'Abolish ICE' T-shirt as the company held 'Grand Slam Mexico' in Mexico City on Wednesday night. King was a part of a 14-person tag-team match with Adam Cole, Atlantis, Atlantis Jr., Bandido Daniel Garcia and Templario. The pro wrestling stars defeated the team of Dax Harwood, Hechicero, Josh Alexander, Konosuke Takeshita, Kyle Fletcher, Lance Archer and Volador Jr. Advertisement The event took place in Arena México and featured wrestlers from Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) — one of the top promotions in Mexico. King's apparent call to abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) came as he showed support for protestors in Los Angeles who were against the raids that took place in the city. The protesters took a violent turn at several points during the week, with law enforcement officers being injured, autonomous vehicles being set on fire and stores being looted. He shared a post from Mexican makeup artist Jose Corella, which started 'Let me be clear.' Advertisement 'What's happening in Los Angeles right now is not only morally reprehensible — it's legally indefensible. This is a sanctuary city, a designation that was democratically voted on and enacted into law by the residents of this city — not by political opportunists grandstanding from a golf course in Florida,' the message read. 'Let me be clear: being undocumented in the United States is not a criminal offense. It is a civil violation. That means it holds the same legal weight as running a stop sign on a bicycle, setting off a firework after a drink, or selling unlicensed fan merch on Etsy. It is subject to civil penalties — typically a fine — not imprisonment, not detention, and certainly not extrajudicial abduction. Brody King wears an 'Abolish ICE' shirt during his entrance at AEW's 'Grand Slam: Mexico' event on June 18, 2025. AEW Advertisement Brody King Icon Sportswire via Getty Images 'Dragging someone off the street at gunpoint, without a warrant or due process, and forcing them into an unmarked vehicle operated by armed, plainclothed agents is not law enforcement — it is armed kidnapping. And armed kidnapping is a felony — a real one. 'So, if you're going to obsess over who is illegal, start by looking at the heavily armed individuals violating constitutional protections under the guise of enforcing the law. Because what they're doing is criminal, not the people they're targeting.' Advertisement Since then, similar messages have been shared by Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Enrique Hernandez and the National Women's Soccer League's Angel City FC. President Donald Trump has since doubled down on his support of ICE in Los Angeles and called on ICE officers to expand their efforts to other cities.
