Uttarakhand CM Dhami reviews preparations for proposed Central Regional Council meeting

DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday reviewed the preparations for the proposed Central Regional Council meeting chaired by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Varanasi during a meeting held at his official residence.
Dhami in the meeting stated that the Central Regional Council was a strong platform for discussions and experience sharing topics of similar nature, along with strengthening contact and cooperation between Centre and the states, as per a statement.
The chief minister directed officials to prepare such concrete and innovative proposals in accordance with the spirit of "coordination of ecology and economy" which can give new impetus to the overall, sustainable and balanced development of the state.
Earlier, the chief minister approved Rs 1,269 lakh for various infrastructure projects in Nainital and Rudraprayag districts.
The chief minister has approved the sanction of an amount of Rs 505.71 lakh for construction of motor road from Dooni Khal to Rati Ghat (Padli) in Betal Ghat development block of Nainital assembly constituency of Nainital district, a release said on Wednesday.
He approved Rs 444.66 lakh for strengthening and "road safety work by DBM and BC in km 01 to 05 of Khankra Chhatikhal motor road in Augustmuni development block of Rudraprayag assembly constituency of Rudraprayag district", Rs 319.20 lakh for the construction work of 24 m extension RCC bridge on Nihal river in Ramnagar-Kaladhungi-Haldwani-Kathgodag-Chorgaliya-Sitapur-Bijti state highway no.

Varanasi gears up for CZC meeting, final touches underway
1 2 Varanasi: With the Central Zonal Council (CZC) meeting scheduled for June 25, preparations have intensified in Varanasi. To ensure smooth movement and aesthetic appeal, authorities are focusing on key areas including the stretch from Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport to Hotel Taj and the roads leading to both temples. Thematic display boards are being installed along the Varuna bridge, while road dividers are being freshly painted. Work on enhancing street lighting and greenery is also nearing completion, with multiple agencies working in coordination. On the security front, Commissioner Agrawal said a multi-layered deployment plan has been finalised. Security personnel will be stationed at the venue and across the VIP routes. Measures include rooftop surveillance, deployment of officers in plain clothes, drone monitoring, and route diversions. Traffic diversions will remain in effect from Monday evening until the dignitaries' departure on Tuesday. CM Yogi during his visit to the venue on June 16, had reviewed the arrangements and instructed officials to ensure the timely completion of all pending work. With issues from multiple departments expected to be discussed, senior officials from Union ministries and departments of the four participating states have already started arriving in the city.

Totapuri mango farmers in a jam as crisis hits hard

With the pulp industry and jelly manufacturers halting procurement this year, demand for the Totapuri variety — primarily used for juice and not for table consumption — plummeted, pushing farmers into a difficult situation. Farmers are taking the direct sales route to overcome losses and markets in Vijayawada are flooded with Totapuri mango stalls in recent times. Traditionally, the Nuzvid region produces a large quantity of Totapuri mangoes towards the end of the season, along with Banginipalli and small juice varieties. However, unlike the superior Totapuri mangoes from Chittoor, Nuzvid's produce is often labelled inferior due to its lower sweetness levels. This year, pulp factories are offering a meagre ₹6 per kg, while middlemen are pushing prices down to ₹4 per kg. The state govt recently announced a ₹4 subsidy per kg, helping farmers receive up to ₹8. But with harvesting alone costing ₹3 per kg, farmers say they are still unable to recover their investment. ECI launches 23 new reforms to strengthen electoral process
Vijayawada: In a move to bolster the electoral process, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has rolled out 23 new initiatives spanning six key areas — electors, political parties, election staff, legal stakeholders, procedural reforms, and internal enhancements within the commission. During an informal briefing in Velagapudi on Friday, P Pawan, deputy director (media division), said the ECI introduced a first-of-its-kind mobile deposit facility at polling booths. This service, aimed at easing the voting experience, was piloted during the recently held bye-elections for five assembly seats across four states. Among other initiatives, the ECI has increased the number of polling stations and capped the maximum number of voters per station at 1,200. To improve accessibility, additional booths are now being established in high-rise buildings and residential colonies to encourage greater voter participation.
