Largest, most luxurious BMW lives on for a second generation
BMW has started testing the next iteration of the X7, weeks after confirming the luxury SUV would live on for a second generation.
A heavily camouflaged prototype has been spotted on public roads for the first time, revealing key details. For example, it wears a set of functional exhaust pipes, confirming it will stick with combustion power – although an EV is also on the cards.
It also appears to share key hardpoints such as its C-pillar with the current X7, suggesting that it will be a major update for the current car (launched in 2019) rather than an all-new car.
Autocar understands that it will be underpinned by an upgraded version of the Cluster Architecture (CLAR) structure that is used for the existing X7, as well as the 7 Series and i7 saloons.
It also appears to retain the current split-headlight design of the current iteration, but adopts the same gloss-black front fascia that will become a signature of the brand's upcoming Neue Klasse cars. These include the 3 Series, X3 and 5 Series.
BMW has yet to indicate when the new X7 will arrive, but documents sent to US dealers previously suggested it would launch in 2027, a year after the new X5.
'We are in a phase where flexibility is required,' BMW R&D boss Frank Weber previously told Autocar. 'We have to detach ourselves from how we have perceived platforms up to now.
'There is an increasing realisation that the art of mastering diversity in your portfolio lies in how you use and network major components – engines, motors, battery cells, on-board computers, control units, app functions, and software upgrades.

'We're shooting for the 4th of July,' he told members of Congress. 'I think it's going to be the most important piece of legislation that our country has passed in many, many years.' The bill passed the House with a slim Republican majority vote of 215-214 and now is working its way through the Senate. Despite pressure from the president, some Republican senators are opposed to the measure, warning that it spends too much money and adds to the deficit. Sen. Rand Paul signaled his opposition to the bill telling Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo in a recent he would need more negotiations before he was willing to vote for it. 'Right now they are not negotiating with me, because they don't think they need me, so I will not be the deciding vote. The bill will not fail because of me,' he said. Senate Majority Leader John Thune can lose four Republican votes to pass the bill, provided that Vice President JD Vance can help it pass by breaking a tie. After Paul vocally criticized the bill he said he was 'uninvited' from the White House picnic, telling reporters he felt the move was 'incredibly petty.' Trump re-extended the invitation to the Senator and his family on social media. 'Of course Senator Rand Paul and his beautiful wife and family are invited to the BIG White House Party tonight,' Trump wrote, describing Paul as 'the toughest vote in the history of the U.S. Senate.' The president's signature bill struggled out of the gate to win support, especially after billionaire Elon Musk criticized the bill as a 'massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill' that was 'a disgusting abomination.' Republicans defended the measure, arguing that the tax cuts in the bill would help boost revenues for the treasury through economic growth. Congressional Democrats remain universally opposed to the legislation.

FCC orders review of 'Cyber Trust Mark' program over China ties

Florian Wirtz: Liverpool sign Bayer Leverkusen star on five-year deal
Florian Wirtz has revealed how Arne Slot's vision for Liverpool persuaded him to join the club for what could become a British-record transfer fee of £116million. The Germany playmaker admitted there was a time when he 'didn't expect Liverpool to be his next club', only for the power of the club's sales pitch to convince him to leave Bayer Leverkusen and reject interest from Manchester City and Bayern Munich. Wirtz also spoke of the profound effect that losing 4-0 at Anfield with Leverkusen in the Champions League last November had upon him as he described Liverpool as 'machines'. Liverpool have paid £100million for the attacking midfielder, with a further £16million dependent on bonuses, and their summer outlay will continue as they have agreed to sign the Bournemouth left back Milos Kerkez in a £40million deal. That will take the spending beyond £200million, of which Wirtz is the undoubted centrepiece, with the 22-year-old confident he will continue to develop under the tutelage of Slot. 'I just thought that it was the right point in my career to make the next step and, of course, I wanted to get to a club that is from the top three in the world, and Liverpool was one of them,' he said. 'The people say I'm a creative player and I hope I can bring this creativity to the team and also the joy on the pitch. I try to make assists, goals and run for the team and defend. I hope I can just make the team one step better. 'I just saw myself in the best hands in Liverpool. Liverpool will look to finalise Kerkez's transfer next week and have already spent £29.5million on signing Jeremie Frimpong, who was Wirtz's team-mate at Leverkusen and taught him to speak English. Bournemouth want at least £65m for PSG target Zabarnyi Bournemouth have valued Illia Zabarnyi at more than £65million in talks to sell the centre back to Paris Saint-Germain (Gary Jacob writes).
