Abu Dhabi launches integrated system for inspecting and monitoring waste management activities

ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has launched an integrated system for managing and monitoring waste management activities across the emirate. This system ensures compliance with the emirate's environmental standards and waste management laws, helping to fulfil its vision of environmental sustainability and the protection of natural resources.The implemented system seamlessly integrates three main waste monitoring and management systems: the Waste Management Activities Inspection and Patrolling System, the Occupational Health and Safety System for Waste Management Sector Workers, and the Electronic System for Tracking and Monitoring Waste Transfer Operations. By developing and integrating sustainable waste management practices, the new system will ensure improved operational efficiency for facilities operating in this sector as well as for inspection and patrolling system.Developed through a series of processes and procedures designed to evaluate all activities related to the collection, transportation, treatment and storage of waste, the system helps facilitate inspection and monitoring procedures for waste sector stakeholders. The system also examines current gaps in the waste sector and identifies lessons learned, enabling EAD to achieve its future initiatives.Eng Salem Mubarak Al Breiki, Director of Waste Management Division at EAD, said: 'The launch of this integrated system marks a pivotal step in achieving our strategic waste management objectives and reinforcing the agency's role in addressing challenges. It fosters stronger partnerships with various entities, enabling the exchange of expertise and the evaluation of our procedural and regulatory frameworks."This collaborative approach is instrumental in the ongoing development of laws and legislation. In addition, the system empowers our employees with enhanced capabilities and efficiency in carrying out field tasks, while increasing the scope of inspection and monitoring activities across the emirate. By integrating artificial intelligence-driven technology and tools, we optimise the process of collecting and processing data to implement the best sustainable solutions.'The implementation of this integrated system is further supported by key legislative and operational tools, including the Integrated Waste Management Regulation and the Waste Classification System, strengthening the enforcement of sector laws and work regulations. The system also includes the preparation of field inspection plans and periodic monitoring that target licensed and operating sectors and facilities in the field of waste trade, transportation, and treatment.
The scope of control has also been expanded to include rural areas, aiming to regulate random waste dumping and other incorrect practices, while longer-term plans will also include dealing with challenges created by waste-producing sectors.

Sultan of Oman issues Royal Decree on Personal Income Tax Law
22 June 2025 19:13 MUSCAT (ALETIHAD)His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik on Sunday issued Royal Decree No. (56/2025) promulgating the Personal Income Tax Law, after the same was presented before the Council of (1) states that the 'Personal Income Tax Law', attached to this decree, shall be (2) stipulates that the Chairman of the Tax Authority shall issue the Executive Regulation of the law attached to this decree within one year of the date of publication of the same in the Official Gazette. The Chairman of the Tax Authority shall also issue the decisions necessary for the implementation of the Law's provisions. Article (3) cancels the clause (1) of the article (18-bis) of the Income Tax Law issued by Royal Decree No. (28/2009). It also cancels all that contradicts the attached law or contravenes its provisions. Article (4) says that this decree shall be published in the Official Gazette and enforced from January 1, 2028. Know the law The Personal Income Tax Law consists of 76 articles distributed across 16 chapters. The law will impose a 5% tax on the taxable income of natural persons whose gross annual income exceeds 42,000 Omani Rial, derived from specific income types as defined by the law. The law will come into effect at the beginning of Tax Authority said that the Personal Income Tax Law complements the tax system in line with Oman's economic and social conditions and aligns with the role assigned to the Tax also contributes to the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 by diversifying income sources and reducing reliance on oil revenues, with targets of 15% of GDP by 2030 and 18% by 2040. The executive regulations of the law will be issued within one year of its publication in the Official told Oman News Agency (ONA) that an electronic system has been developed by the Tax Authority to promote voluntary compliance and has been linked with the departments concerned to ensure accurate income calculation and verification of tax declarations. The Tax Authority has also strengthened its workforce through specialized training programs in line with the tax implementation requirements. Additionally, guidance manuals for natural and legal persons will be published according to a predetermined schedule.

UAE: Archer Aviation ties up with Jetex to build infra for its air taxi network

In a statement, Archer said the collaboration would initially focus on Jetex's facilities in the UAE but is expected to expand across Jetex's global network of 40 private aircraft terminals in more than 30 countries. The partnership will involve designing passenger experiences, deploying charging infrastructure, and integrating Archer's Midnight eVTOL aircraft into daily operations at terminals serviced by founded in 2005 and headquartered in Dubai, offers a wide range of private aviation services including fixed-base operations (FBOs), ground handling, fueling, global trip planning, aircraft charter and concierge services. The company caters to corporate, commercial, and personal air travel markets and is known for its high-end service standards. 'eVTOL technology is an instrumental part of our industry, designed to transform urban mobility and shape the future of business aviation,' said Adel Mardini, Founder and CEO of Jetex. Emirates, Etihad, other UAE airlines extend flight suspension after US strikes Iran
[Editor's Note: Follow our live blog for real-time updates on the latest developments in the Israel-Iran conflict.] UAE airlines on Sunday announced an extension of flight suspensions to several regional destinations due to widespread airspace closures, following the United States' decision to join Israel in strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. Aviation experts warn that US involvement could escalate regional tensions, potentially leading to further disruption of air travel to destinations such as Syria, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Jordan, and others. In response, the UAE and other Gulf nations have voiced concern, urging restraint and de-escalation. Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways has suspended its flights to Tel Aviv until July 15 due to the ongoing military conflict. 'Guests transiting through Abu Dhabi on their way to cancelled destinations will not be accepted for travel from their point of origin. Affected passengers are being offered alternative travel arrangements,' said Etihad, the UAE's national airline. 'This remains a highly dynamic situation. Additional changes or disruptions — including sudden airspace closures — may occur at short notice. Etihad is closely monitoring developments in coordination with relevant authorities and is taking all necessary precautions,' the airline added. Separately, Etihad flight EY652 from Kuwait International Airport (KWI) to Abu Dhabi Zayed International Airport (AUH) was cancelled on Sunday due to a technical issue. Flydubai also announced the temporary suspension of flights to and from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Israel, and St. Petersburg until June 30, 2025. 'Passengers connecting through Dubai to any of the affected destinations will not be accepted for travel from their point of origin until further notice,' the airline said. It advised affected passengers to check rebooking options on its website and monitor their flight status regularly. 'Please note that some flights may also face delays or rerouting,' it added. Emirates, Dubai's flagship carrier, has temporarily suspended all flights to Iran (Tehran) and Iraq (Baghdad and Basra) until June 30, 2025. Sharjah-based budget carrier Air Arabia has also halted flights to and from Iran, Iraq, Russia, Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan through the end of the month. Additionally, flights to Jordan are suspended until June 25, 2025, due to the ongoing regional tensions and airspace restrictions. 'Several other flights are being delayed or rerouted as a result. Passengers transiting through Sharjah or Abu Dhabi to any of the affected destinations will not be accepted for travel at their point of origin until further notice,' the airline said.
