Shahbaz murder: Five accused granted Plus One admission
Kozhikode: Five of the six students accused in the Shahbaz murder case were granted Plus One admission following the directions of the high court.
Three students were admitted to the Thamarassery govt vocational higher secondary school while the two others secured admission to two schools in Kozhikode.
The high court had directed the superintendent of the observation home in Kozhikode where the students are staying to take necessary steps to facilitate the admission of the students, observing that right to admission of students should not be curtailed.
Student organisations including KSU and MSF staged protest before the Thamarassery GHSS over the admission of the accused students. They were arrested and removed before the students were brought to the school for seat allotment process.
The court heard the bail application of the six accused students and has reserved the judgement.
Mohammmad Shahbaz, a student of the MJ higher secondary school, was assaulted using a nunchaku (a martial arts weapon) during an altercation at a farewell function at a tuition centre on Feb 28. He succumbed to the injuries the next day at the Kozhikode govt medical college hospital. Thamarassery Police had booked the students under murder charges. The accused students were allowed to write the SSLC examination while they were at the Vellimadukunnu observational home.
Father of Shahbaz said that granting of Plus One admission to the accused students gives a wrong message.

Plus One students brutally assaulted in ‘ragging' incident at Thiruvananthapuram school
T'puram: Three Plus One students were allegedly brutally assaulted by senior students in a suspected ragging incident at a school in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday. A video of the incident, which allegedly took place inside a classroom at Alamcode Govt VHSS in Attingal, went viral on social media platforms on Friday. The three students suffered grievous injuries in their eyes and face. However, Nagaroor Police have not registered any case over the incident yet, claiming that no one has come forward with a formal complaint. The school management suspended at least seven Plus Two students for 15 days, pending disciplinary actions against them. According to reports, the senior students reached the class of the Plus One students during lunch break on Wednesday. They then allegedly asked the juniors to introduce themselves. While doing so, one of the junior students was asked to be louder, which led to an argument. Two other students argued on his behalf, leading to a group clash. The senior students then brutally attacked their juniors in front of teachers and escaped. Following the incident, police convened a meeting of parents, students, and school management to discuss the issue. "In the meeting, the affected parties were not willing to file complaints as the issue was settled by them. The Plus Two students were warned not to repeat such offences in future to avoid facing strict actions," said police.

National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test candidate alleges OMR manipulation, plans legal action
Bengaluru: A National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) candidate from the city has claimed that the OMR sheet displayed on the NTA (National Testing Agency) website under her name was manipulated and didn't match the responses she had given during the exam. At a press conference, Spurthy S, a student of Soundarya PU College, said she found a stark mismatch between the responses she had given and those in the OMR sheet provided on the website. In a letter written to NTA, she said: "Upon attempting to download my OMR sheet, I encountered initial technical errors. When it became accessible, I observed that the shaded bubbles for the register number were correct, but the handwritten number appeared overwritten. I also remember writing the time under my signature, as instructed by the invigilator during the exam. However, the time written on the OMR sheet isn't visible in the scanned copy. This raised concerns about possible technical misread or mismatch during evaluation." "Several answers I attempted and marked are left unshaded. Some questions I didn't attempt are marked. This has led to a discrepancy of nearly 174 marks, inconsistent with my performance and expectations," she alleged. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo According to her, while currently her rank is around 93,000, it should have been around 200, based on the answers she claimed to have marked. While she wrote to NTA on June 3, the agency replied on June 12 stating that the OMR sheet was indeed hers. "We'd like to assure you that the OMR sheet displayed on the portal is the same as the one submitted by you at the exam centre. The sheet includes the details filled in by you, such as your roll number (both in figures and bubbled format), the question paper booklet number and series code, and bears both your signature and that of the invigilator. The image visible to you is a scanned copy of the original OMR sheet received from the centre under due process. The responses shown are those marked by you during the exam. We hope this clarifies your concern," the response read. The student said she intends to approach Karnataka high court over the matter. "I secured 625 out of 625 in SSLC and 99% in II PU. In CET, I have a rank of 1,386," she added.

KSU urges collector to act on rising violence at Maharaja's College men's hostel
Kochi: KSU has written to district collector NSK Umesh, seeking urgent intervention into alleged rising incidents of violence and ragging at Maharaja's College men's hostel. KSU has requested collector to check drug abuse within the hostel and its premises. According to KSU, violence became routine in the hostel, with past complaints, FIRs and student protests failing to prompt action. "The culture of impunity that took root in the hostel poses a grave threat not only to the safety of individual students but to the integrity of the institution itself. We are concerned that if left unaddressed, this environment will continue to breed lawlessness, fear and irreparable harm to young lives," said a letter written by KSU Ernakulam assembly president Muhammad Ajmal K K. In the letter, the student outfit cited Kerala Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1998, highlighting that many of the acts within the hostel constitute clear cases of ragging, including physical assault, intimidation and psychological abuse. KSU has demanded a time-bound inquiry, installation of CCTV cameras, regular police inspections and strict implementation of anti-ragging guidelines. "We seek justice for victims and a safe, dignified space for all students," stated the letter.
