The Cleveland Browns might have their best quarterback situation in decades. They might also have their worst.

With four quarterbacks battling for the starting job in September, the room is split between two veterans and two rookie draft picks. Of the two rookies, Colorado's Shedeur Sanders, a fifth-round pick, could already be the odd man out through rookie minicamp, voluntary OTAs and mandatory minicamp.
If that's the case, he could be on the move before the season gets underway, so the Browns can recoup some draft capital with him.
Heavy Sports' Owen Crisafulli speculated that Cleveland could move Sanders to ... get this ... the Pittsburgh Steelers, for ... get this ... a third-round pick.
Umm, what?
It's all crazy talk, but I guess nothing at this point is out of the question for the Browns and Steelers this offseason.

'Sanders entered the 2025 draft with expectations of being a first-round pick. Instead, he fell all the way to the fifth round, where the Browns eventually traded up to select him with the No. 144 pick," Crisafulli wrote. "Sanders finds himself in a quarterback room consisting of Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, who was selected by the team in the third round of the draft.
'With Watson re-rupturing his Achilles back in January, Cleveland's starting quarterback job is wide open. Sanders has reportedly impressed Browns coaches early on, and he appears to have as good of a shot as everyone else at becoming the Week 1 starter. However, it's worth noting that there's a bit of a logjam at the position. Given that they selected Gabriel before Sanders, it's clear that Cleveland believes more in the former Oregon Ducks passer to become their quarterback of the future.'
It seems crazy to think that the Steelers would spend a third-round pick on a fifth-round player, especially so soon after the draft. It also seems unthinkable that they'd go get Sanders — or any rookie — so soon after inking Aaron Rodgers.
But here we are.

AFC North News: Ravens strengthen secondary with addition of former Pro Bowl cornerback

The Baltimore Ravens are adding former Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander to their defensive secondary, making the AFC North a bit tougher on the Cleveland Browns. Alexander's contract is reported to be a one-year, $4 million deal where he can earn up to an additional $2 million, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. The free agent signing comes after the cornerback and Green Bay were unable to agree on a restructured contract, thus granting his release. Now, the two-time Pro Bowler and second-team All-Pro brings speed, experience, and something to prove heading into 2025. One knock on Jaire Alexander is that he's struggled to stay on the field for his now former Green Bay Packers. In the last two seasons, Alexander has played in a combined 14 out of a possible 34 regular season games due to injury. When on the field, the cornerback still posted a 75.2 overall PFF grade in 2025, which ranked 25th out of 222 NFL defensive backs. He also managed to post an elite 78.3 coverage grade in his limited time played. The Ravens' secondary was far from needing an upgrade, but the Cleveland Browns will not have to be even more prepared for their Baltimore defense. Along with Kyle Hamilton, Marlon Humphrey, and more, it's fair to say the Ravens have one of the most lethal secondaries in the NFL. Cleveland's unnamed starting quarterback and their receiving core will have to bring their A game in week 2 of the regular season.

PFF: Seahawks have top-5 backfield in NFL

The Seattle Seahawks struggled to run the football last season. The ground game finished 28th in the league, averaging 95.7 yards per contest. It wasn't due to a lack of talent in the backfield, with both Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet being effective in doses. Poor offensive line play and inexperienced play-calling didn't help the Seahawks establish the run. An injury to Walker also left the backfield occasionally shorthanded. New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is hoping to implement a ground-and-pound approach. Pro Football Focus recently ranked every running back room in the NFL. Somewhat surprisingly given last season's results, the Seahawks' backfield placed fifth. "Seattle quietly possesses one of the NFL's deepest running back rooms," Dalton Wasserman wrote. "That unit includes Kenneth Walker III, Zach Charbonnet, Kenny McIntosh and seventh-round rookie Damien Martinez. Walker tied for fourth in the NFL with a 91.3 PFF rushing grade last season, though he appeared in only 11 games. Charbonnet also placed among the top 20 with his 78.8 PFF rushing grade. Martinez could be an interesting addition to the unit after ranking third in the FBS with a 94.4 PFF rushing grade at Miami last season." Adding Damien Martinez to the room improved the overall standing. The Seahawks also have terrific depth, with Kenny McIntosh giving the Seahawks four NFL-caliber options. The Seahawks desperately need to improve their rushing attack in 2025.

Browns WR Diontae Johnson predicts Kenny Pickett to win starting QB battle

The Cleveland Browns made small moves at the wide receiver position this offseason, their biggest being the addition of former Pro Bowler Diontae Johnson. And Johnson has a prediction for who will win the Browns' quarterback battle, going with his former and again current teammate Kenny Pickett. Johnson stated, "I think they're going to roll with Kenny for right now,' while speaking with host Stephen Garcia on The Comeback. Johnson and Pickett played two seasons together with the Steelers from 2022-2023. During that time, Johnson racked up 137 catches for nearly 1,600 yards and five touchdowns while catching passes from Pickett. More importantly, Johnson saw a massive 137 targets during Pickett's rookie season in Pittsburgh. The former Toledo Rocket is looking for a fresh start in Cleveland after a forgettable 2024 season where he burned through four different locker rooms. He was traded from the Steelers after a disgruntled offseason, then he was cut by the Carolina Panthers, Baltimore Ravens, and Houston Texans throughout the season. Whether it is Pickett or Joe Flacco or one of the two rookies who starts for the Browns, Johnson has a real opportunity at resurrection in 2025, given the lack of moves made to that room this offseason. We'll see if he can take advantage.
