Minnie Dlamini out as Selbeyonce returns to Gagasi FM

Selbeyonce has officially joined the dynamic afternoon drive show, The Gagasi Fast Lane. From left to right: Minnie Dlamini and Selby 'Selbeyonce' Mkhize. Picture: Instagram Radio personality Selby 'Selbeyonce' Mkhize has returned to Gagasi FM after announcing her departure from Ukhozi FM last week. Selbeyonce officially joined the dynamic afternoon drive show, The Gagasi Fast Lane, on Monday, 23 June, which she will be hosting alongside Sphectacula and DJ Naves. She replaces Minnie Dlamini, who held it down for a week following the departure of Thandi 'Zisto' Mhlongo, who resigned in March this year after eight years with the station. Alex Mthiyane, head of audience experience at Gagasi FM, said they are thrilled to have Selbeyonce on board. 'We started this journey together as young broadcasters. Watching her growth has been inspiring. She's a true example of the Zulu saying: 'Amanzi la ake ama khona aphinde ame' [the water will stop again where it once stopped].' Mthiyane added that the fresh line-up will bring a new dynamic to the show. 'We're thrilled to welcome back Selbeyonce to our team! Her infectious energy and unmistakable on-air charisma will undoubtedly connect with our audience. 'Together with Sphectacula and Naves, this fresh line-up brings a new dynamic to The Fast Lane, and we are confident it will captivate listeners across KZN and beyond.' 'And to be back where it all began—it's surreal. I'm ready to bring joy, insight, and a little Selbeyonce sparkle to your afternoons!' Meanwhile, Minnie bid farewell to Gagasi FM listeners last week. Taking to Instagram, she said she had fun on air with Sphectacula and DJ Naves. 'This week has been pure love. Thank you, Gagasi FM, for letting me have some fun with my besties Sphectacula and DJ Naves on The Gagasi Fast Lane. KZN, I love you. JHB, I'll see you soon for some power moves,' Minnie wrote on Instagram after her final show on the radio station. NOW READ: WATCH: Tyla's big Nickelodeon night — hosting, slime, and a major win

Abigail Kubheka's 68 years in the industry to be honoured in concert

Abigail Kubheka's career started in 1957 when, at the age of 16, Miriam Makeba invited her to join her Skylarks ensemble. Singer and actor Abigail Kubheka will be honoured in concert in July. Picture: @joburgtheatre/X The South African government is often criticised for not honouring artists from Mzansi; it only bestows recognition on them after they are no longer with us. However, legendary singer and actor Abigail Kubheka will be honoured for 68 years in the entertainment industry. 'Mama Abigail Kubheka is more than a performer — she is a living archive of our nation's cultural history,' said Deputy Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Peace Mabe in a statement. A concert in Kubheka's honour will be hosted at the State Theatre in Pretoria in the first weekend of July, where Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Sipho 'Hotstix' Mabuse and Khanyo Maphumulo, among others, 25 are expected to perform on the day. The performing artists are said to have volunteered their time and talent to celebrate Khubeka, whose 'voice, presence, and resilience have helped shape South Africa's cultural identity'. She spent her teenage years in Sophiatown, a bustling cultural hub at the time. However, her career started in 1957 when, at the age of 16, Miriam Makeba invited her to join her Skylarks ensemble, which at that time also comprised the legendary Letta Mbulu and Mary Rabotaba. The following decades saw Khubeka performing on various stages around the world, while also venturing into acting later in her illustrious career. We are honouring Mama Abigail Kubheka: Date: 5 July 2025 Venue: State Theatre Tshwane Time: 18:00 May 27, 2025 'For nearly seven decades, her voice has carried the spirit of resistance, love, and healing. In her music and her presence, generations have found hope,' said Mabe. The series not only acknowledges their legacy but also provides tangible support through platforms such as the Living Legends Legacy Fraternity Trust (LLLFT). 'Honouring her through the Van Toeka Af series is both a duty and a privilege, and a reminder that South Africa's greatest treasure,' said Mabe. WATCH: Tyla's big Nickelodeon night: Hosting, slime and a big win

Tyla became the first African artist to host the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards — the global show that celebrates the biggest stars in television, music, film and digital media, all voted for by children. South Africa's pop superstar Tyla stole the show at this year's Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, delivering a high-energy performance as host, scooping an award, and even braving the slime. The event was held on Saturday, 21 June, at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Los Angeles, in the United States. Tyla was nominated in two categories – Favourite Global Music Star and Favourite Music Collaboration for Show Me Love, her track with WizTheMc and bees & honey. She walked away with the Favourite Global Music Star award, beating nominees from six other regions: Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America, North America and the UK. 'This means the world to me — to represent Africa on a global stage and be recognised by all of you amazing kids out there… wow. Thank you for believing in me and dancing with me. Africa to the world!' she said. The 23-year-old wasn't just an award recipient – she also took on hosting duties. In an interview before the event, Tyla revealed she had always dreamed of being on Nickelodeon. 'When I was younger, I tried to audition for Nickelodeon, but no one answered the call – and now I'm hosting it,' she said, beaming with pride. Tyla also got her slime action, far more than the drizzle she had hoped for. 'When I saw a video of Katy Perry getting slimed, I was like, oh my gosh, please, not that. Just a little cute drizzle. But we'll see – whatever happens, happens,' she said before the show. Tyla wins 'Favourite Global Music Star' and gets Slimed at the Kids' Choice Awards.
