Indiramma housing scheme delayed in Sircilla: Ponguleti
Hyderabad: State Housing and Information and Public Relations Minister P Srinivasa Reddy said that the implementation of the Indiramma housing scheme was delayed in Sircilla Assembly Constituency as the BRS leader and local MLA KT Rama Rao has not submitted a list of beneficiaries to the officials.
The government has brought a new norm giving opposition MLAs to select 40 per cent of the beneficiaries of Indiramma houses and forward the list to the Housing department. The Minister said that KTR defied the orders and as a result, the official process in the selection of the beneficiaries did not take place. After coming to know, the local authorities have been asked to select the names and finalise them immediately.
Stating that 2.10 lakh beneficiaries have been identified across the State till the date, Srinivasa Reddy also took strong exception to the KTR's repeated comments against him saying that ED raided his houses with currency counting machines. He said that no raid was conducted by the central agency in his house.
Srinivasa Reddy said that all the beneficiaries list will be finalised by June 10. Under the pilot project, he said that 42,000 houses were sanctioned and the construction of 20,000 houses was already started.
100 houses are ready for house warming this month. In the ITDA (Integrated Tribal Development Authority) limits, the government sanctioned 9,200 houses for Chenchu tribes. Four storey buildings will be constructed in Hyderabad, Warangal, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Mahbubnagar and Nalgonda municipal corporations in view of lack of availability of government land to build independent houses for the beneficiaries.

ED withdraws summons to senior advocate amid row
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday withdrew its summons to senior advocate Pratap Venugopal, hours after the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA) urged Chief Justice of India (CJI) Bhushan R Gavai to take suo motu cognisance of the agency's move, calling it a grave infringement on the independence of the legal profession and the sanctity of lawyer-client privilege. The summons pertained to the ongoing investigation into the allotment of Employee Stock Option Plans (ESOPs) by Care Health Insurance. (HT photo) Venugopal, summoned on June 19 to appear before the ED on June 24 under Section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, received a text message from the agency on Friday afternoon informing him that the notice 'stands withdrawn with immediate effect.' The summons pertained to the ongoing investigation into the allotment of Employee Stock Option Plans (ESOPs) by Care Health Insurance to former Religare Enterprises Chairperson Rashmi Saluja. Venugopal was the Advocate-on-Record (AoR) for a legal opinion rendered by senior counsel Arvind Datar in the matter. ED had earlier summoned Datar as well, but that notice too was rescinded following backlash from the legal fraternity. In a letter dated June 20, SCAORA President Vipin Nair described the summons to Venugopal as 'a deeply disquieting development,' and warned that coercive measures against lawyers for professional legal opinions strike at the heart of legal privilege and the fundamental tenets of the rule of law. SCAORA asserted that such actions represent an 'impermissible transgression' into the constitutionally protected sphere of legal advice. 'The role of an advocate in offering legal advice is both privileged and protected. Interference by investigative agencies, particularly in respect of opinions rendered in a professional capacity—strikes at the core of the rule of law,' the letter stated. SCAORA urged the Supreme Court to examine the legality and propriety of summoning advocates for professional opinions and called for the framing of clear guidelines to insulate the legal profession from similar overreach in the future. This is the second time in recent days that the Association has stepped in to defend the autonomy of the Bar. On June 16, SCAORA issued a public statement condemning the ED's notice to Datar as 'unwarranted' and a manifestation of growing investigative overreach. Similar concerns have echoed across the legal landscape. On June 17, the Delhi High Court Bar Association passed a resolution criticising the ED's actions, warning of a direct threat to the constitutional right to legal representation and fair trial. The Gujarat High Court Advocates Association also convened an emergency meeting, with its president Brijesh Trivedi calling for urgent government action to protect lawyer-client privilege through amendments to the Indian Evidence Act, 1872, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023. While ED has not formally disclosed reasons for withdrawing the summons to Venugopal, senior members of the Bar see the move as an implicit recognition of the serious constitutional and professional issues flagged by the legal community.

SIT summons BJP leader in T'gana phone-tapping case
The Special Investigation Team of the Telangana police probing the alleged phone tapping during the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi regime, summoned a close aide of Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay for questioning in connection with the case, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) disclosed on Friday. The statement said the SIT, which began its investigation into phone tapping after the Congress came to power, had already confirmed that Bandi Sanjay's phone had been tapped (HT Archive) In a statement, the Telangana BJP said the SIT officials had confirmed on Friday that the phone of Bandi Sanjay's close aide and BJP Karimnagar Parliamentary constituency convenor, Boyinapalli Praveen Rao, was tapped during the previous BRS regime. 'The SIT authorities called up Praveen Rao and informed him that his phone number was also in the list of those which were tapped. They said they would summon him shortly, and he would be required to appear before the investigating authorities for questioning,' the BJP said. Meanwhile, BJP state general secretary Gujjula Premender Reddy, too, confirmed that he had received the information from the investigating authorities that his phone, too, was tapped during the previous regime. The statement said the SIT, which began its investigation into phone tapping after the Congress came to power, had already confirmed that Bandi Sanjay's phone had been tapped. 'Now, the investigation has revealed that the phones of his staff and close associates were also tapped,' it said. The party said Praveen Rao has been a long-time associate of Bandi Sanjay and had managed Sanjay's election campaigns in the past. 'In recent years, Praveen Rao has served as Sanjay's personal assistant and the BJP Karimnagar Parliamentary constituency convenor, coordinating constituency tours and supervising the execution of various programmes,' it said. It said Praveen Rao had taken part in the agitations of Sanjay during the BRS regime against forcible implementation of GO 317 (on employees' transfers), leakage of Class 10 examination paper, communal violence at Bhainsa and other such incidents. 'He was even named as a co-accused in several public agitation-related cases alongside Sanjay,' the party said. Premender Reddy also said the SIT authorities had informed him, too, that his phone was also tapped during the BRS regime. 'I shall hand over all the evidence and other details of my mobile phone to the Jubilee Hills police on Monday,' he said, adding that if the police did not take any action even after gathering all the details, the state government would be held responsible.

Bandi Sanjay dares Congress government to seek CBI inquiry into phone tapping case to bring ‘masterminds' behind it to justice
Alleging that the Congress was having a secret understanding with the BRS, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Saturday dared Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to seek a CBI inquiry into the telephone tapping case. Mr Sanjay was in Karimnagar to participate in the International Yoga Day celebrations held at the Dr BR Ambedkar stadium on Saturday. Later, speaking to the media, he questioned why Mr. Revanth Reddy, who had demanded a CBI probe into the phone tapping issue while he was the TPCC president during the BRS rule, failed to act upon it after coming to power. He alleged that the previous K. Chandrasekhar Rao-led dispensation filed dozens of cases against him. 'I was the first to speak out about the phone tapping. The tapping was conducted from Hyderabad and Sircilla. Everyone knows who is behind this,' he added. Mr. Sanjay Kumar said, 'Former Special Investigation Bureau (SIB) chief T. Prabhakar Rao, who is the prime accused in the phone tapping case, tapped the phone of BJP leaders, including mine. The accused did not just tap phones of BJP leaders but also of Congress and BRS leaders. Even judges were not spared.' The prime accused 'fled' the country after the Congress came to power, he criticised. 'Despite clear evidence that the phone tapping was done at the behest of the persons at the helm in the previous BRS government, why has no notice been issued to the masterminds behind the nefarious crime?' he asked. Stating that he had received a phone call from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the phone tapping case to testify before it, Mr. Sanjay said he will cooperate with the investigation and act as per law.
