Jason Momoa Is Done With Peace in Apple's ‘Chief of War' Teaser
Jason Momoa seeks peace. But today, he wants a war.
Apple TV+ released the teaser trailer for its upcoming 'epic historical drama' Chief of War on Wednesday. Momoa is not just a pretty face and burly body in this one — he co-created the series with Thomas Pa'a Sibbett (who also has Hawaiian heritage), writes the show, executive produces and directs the season finale. (Momoa and Pa'a Sibbett wrote the pilot and finale; Doug Jung joined them in writing episodes 2-8, The Hollywood Reporter is told.)

The nine-episode series is 'based on true events,' per Apple. It follows warrior Ka'iana (Momoa) as he tries to unify the islands before Western colonization in the late 18th century. Chief of War will premiere with its first two episodes on Friday, August 1; new episodes will follow every Friday through September 19.
Chief of War features a predominantly Polynesian cast, also starring Luciane Buchanan, Temuera Morrison, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, Cliff Curtis, Kaina Makua, Moses Goods, Siua Ikale'o, Brandon Finn, James Udom, Mainei Kinimaka, Te Kohe Tuhaka and Benjamin Hoetjes.

The series is produced for Apple TV+ by Fifth Season and Chernin Entertainment. Doug Jung serves as showrunner and executive produces along with Sibbett, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Tracey Cook and Brian Mendoza. Justin Chon directed the first two episodes and serves as executive producer. Anders Engstrom, Jim Rowe, Molly Allen, Francis Lawrence and Tim Van Patten also executive produce. Hans Zimmer wrote the theme music and co-produced the score for all nine episodes with composer James Everingham.
Momoa previously starred in Apple TV+ series See, which ran for three seasons.

EXCLUSIVE: Filming has been suspended on Apple TV+'s untitled brothers comedy series from Skydance Television starring and executive produced by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, Deadline has learned. According to sources, production in Austin, TX was paused late last week, with the cast, which includes fellow stars Holland Taylor, Natalie Martinez and Brittany Ishibashi, sent home. The development, which involves the departure of showrunner David West Read, comes as eight of the series' 10 ordered episodes have been shot. Veteran comedy showrunner Lee Eisenberg (Jury Duty, Little America), who most recently created and executive produced Apple TV+'s acclaimed limited series Lessons In Chemistry, is in negotiations to come on board as showrunner for the last two episodes and likely reshoots, I hear. The makeup of the brothers comedy series is unusual — its stars/executive producers McConaughey and Harrelson are real stakeholders as the project is loosely inspired by their real-life longtime friendship. The untitled brothers series stars Harrelson and McConaughey in a heartfelt, odd couple love story revolving around their strange and beautiful bond. Matthew and Woody's friendship is tested when their combined families attempt to live together on Matthew's ranch in Texas. The cast also includes series regulars Oona Yaffe, Highdee Kuan, Nolan Almeida, Ella Grace Helton and Noah Carganilla. Skydance Television is producing the series for Apple TV+. West Read, McConaughey and Harrelson executive produce alongside David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Matt Thunell for Skydance Television and Bill Bost and Jeremy Plager. There is no return to production date set yet as the new showrunner is expected to take some time to tweak the series' creative direction. Reps for Apple TV+ and Skydance TV declined comment. Best Drama Writing Emmy predictions: ‘The Pitt' takes a risk by submitting 3 episodes
Ballots for the 2025 Emmys have officially been released and voting is currently underway in all categories. For Best Drama Series Writing, there are 132 submissions, which means there will be six finalists for the category when nominations are announced July 15. When it comes to writing, there are two strategic approaches when it comes to seeking a slot: submit one showcase episode or flood the zone. This year, as is often the case, practically all of the frontrunners are opting for the former tactic. This includes the incumbent winner Will Smith for Slow Horses, who is the only nominee from last year eligible again. He could win his second consecutive Emmy for the Season 4 finale, a shattering, suspenseful episode surrounding River Cartwright (Jack Lowden). It's just as devastating, with a race against time and multiple story turns, capped by a final twist that has left fans wanting more. The reason most shows shy away from multiple submissions is the threat of vote-splitting, especially when it comes to a debut show that hasn't yet established itself at the Emmys. Nontheless, we expect The Pitt pilot to make the cut. The other notable series to push multiple scripts was The Handmaid's Tale. For its final season, the Emmy-winning series submitted the last three episodes for consideration. Most of the rest of the top contenders put forward either their pilots/premieres or their finales. This include The Day of the Jackal, Black Doves, Paradise, and Squid Game for the former, and The Diplomat for the latter. Two other possibilities for those six slots are Bad Sisters, a previous nominee for last season, for its penultimate episode, and Industry, for its fourth installment, featuring some of the most intense dialogue and high stakes. Brett Goldstein has emerged as one of the many beloved characters in the Apple TV+ hit series Ted Lasso. He portrays the popular player-turned-coach Roy Kent, who has a gritty personality and doesn't love small talk. It seems Goldstein's disinterest in small talk during the show may translate to real life in some ways, specifically when it comes to being asked questions about Ted Lasso's future From the sound of it, Goldstein didn't exactly love fielding the constant questions on the topic of whether Ted Lasso would even return for a Season 4, before the news was officially revealed. He made that much known during a recent interview with Variety. When the topic of Goldstein no longer having to address the questions about the show's future when they arose, it sounds like they were tougher on him than the current queries he gets. "That is such a relief," Goldstein said of no longer having to answer questions about the show's future. Goldstein, who plays Louis on the hit show Shrinking, is also an executive producer and writer for the show. While he's in the same boat as the rest of the Ted Lasso cast, having to remain tight-lipped on Season 4, he did call it "exciting" to be back with the rest of the show's actors. "Obviously, I can't tell you a single thing about it, of course, but we're working on it, and it's good," he says. "It's exciting to have everyone back together." One thing fans can rejoice in is the fact that they'll be treated to more of Roy Kent in the upcoming season.
