Hakim Danish wins another podium at Aragon MotoGP
KUALA LUMPUR: National rider Muhammad Hakim Danish Ramli maintained his position at the head of the MotoGP Rookies Cup riders' standings after securing yet another second-placed finish in Race 5 of the competition at the Aragon Circuit, Spain yesterday.
The 17-year-old started the first race of the third round in sixth place and managed to catch up with the leading group, only to bet thwarted by Spaniard Brian Uriarte, who won with a time of 26:38.204 seconds (s).
'Second place is still an important result. I will try to do better in Race Six tomorrow (Sunday),' he said after the race.
Hakim Danish, who won the round last season, finished 0.007s behind Uriarte while third place went to another Spanish rider David Gonzalez (+0.068s).
Even with the second place finish, the Malaysian remains at the top of the overall standings with 100 points ahead of Uriarte (75 points) and Gonzalez (35 points).

Alcaraz sets up Queen's final clash with Lehecka
LONDON: Carlos Alcaraz reached the Queen's Club final for the second time as the world number two eased to a 6-4, 6-4 win over Roberto Bautista Agut on Saturday. Alcaraz extended his career-best winning streak to 17 matches in a semi-final played in sweltering conditions at the Wimbledon warm-up event in west London. The five-time Grand Slam champion hit 36 winners and 15 aces to dispatch his fellow Spaniard in 90 minutes. Top seeded Alcaraz will face Jiri Lehecka in Sunday's final after the Czech world number 30's shock 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 win against British star Jack Draper in the other semi-final. Playing his first tournament since his epic French Open victory against Jannik Sinner two weeks ago, the 22-year-old is through to his fifth successive final after lifting titles on clay in Paris, Rome, Barcelona and Monte Carlo. Alcaraz signalled his emergence as a grass-court force by winning Queen's in 2023, clinching the Wimbledon title for the first time just weeks later and defending his All England Club crown last year. The 23-year-old said: "It means a lot. You don't meet a player like Jack every day, he's an amazing competitor." Draper was hoping to become the first British singles champion at Queen's since five-time winner Andy Murray's most recent victory in 2016. But the world number six will have to wait at least another year to get his hands on the silverware after claiming a bout of tonsillitis played a role in his defeat. "I haven't felt good all week. I'm proud of the way I went about things, considering, but it's tough," he said. "You're an entertainer, an athlete, and you have no choice. No one cares, you know. So you've just got to go out there and do the best you can. "Today's probably the worst I've felt. Did I think about withdrawing? No, not at all. I'm in the semi-finals at Queen's. Lehecka ruins script to beat Draper in Queen's semi-final
LONDON: Jiri Lehecka downed Britain's Jack Draper to ruin the script at Queen's Club on Saturday, winning a gripping semi-final 6-4 4-6 7-5 to become the first Czech man to reach an ATP grasscourt final for 15 years. Fans packed into the Andy Murray Arena at the west London club had arrived expecting to cheer Draper, ranked sixth in the world, into a likely final against Spain's Carlos Alcaraz. But Lehecka, the world number 30, had other ideas as he produced a stunning display in stifling heat. Second seed Draper, bidding to follow in the footsteps of five-time Queen's champion Murray, dropped his opening service game and Lehecka barely a put a foot wrong as he took the first set in clinical fashion. Left-hander Draper saved a break point early in the second set and then broke fellow 23-year-old Lehecka's serve for the first time in the 10th game to level the match. Both players were rock solid on serve in the decider with Lehecka having the first chance of a break at 4-4 but Draper survived to pile the pressure on his opponent. Lehecka did not flinch though and broke serve at 5-5 with two stunning passing shots, one a forehand and then a backhand, to leave Draper smashing his racket in anger against a court-side electronic advertising board. There was still the small matter of holding serve to reach the final but Lehecka did that in style, roaring his delight after clinching his first victory against a top-10 player since beating Alcaraz in Doha in February. The last Czech man to reach a top-level grass-court final was Tomas Berdych at Wimbledon in 2010. Alcaraz faces fellow Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut in the day's second semi-final.
