247Sports ranks the four-star prospect as the No. 87 player in the class of 2026, the No. 7 interior offensive lineman and the No. 2 recruit from the state of Pennsylvania.
The recruiting service has yet to issue any predictions for his landing spot. On3's prediction machine, on the other hand, gives Notre Dame a 76.2% chance to land his commitment. Notably, longtime Wisconsin assistant Joe Rudolph currently coaches the Fighting Irish offensive line.
Wisconsin currently has one player committed in the class of 2026: three-star interior offensive lineman Benjamin Novak. That is the case after quarterback Jarin Mock decommitted following changes to Wisconsin's offensive staff.
Luke Fickell and his staff are working to continue a strong run on the recruiting trail. The program finished the 2024 cycle at No. 25 in the nation (with a Blue-Chip Ratio of 50%), then finished 2025 at No. 29.
The Badgers have done well to make Merrill's final schools. They now will face significant competition to land his commitment.

Five-star safety Joey O'Brien commits to Notre Dame football, joining Maryland prep CB Khary Adams

SOUTH BEND — Notre Dame football's 2026 recruiting class continues to fly high in the national rankings. Friday evening, June 20, the latest nonbinding commitment came from five-star safety Joey O'Brien of La Salle College High School in suburban Philadelphia. Rated 30th overall and fourth nationally among safeties, per 247 Sports Composite, O'Brien had the Irish in his top four along with Penn State, Oregon and Clemson. "I'd trust Coach Marcus Freeman with my life," O'Brien said at his announcement, which was carried live on YouTube. "He's the type of dude I want to go to battle for." The 6-foot-3, 185-pound O'Brien, who also stars at wide receiver, took his official visit to Notre Dame last weekend. Flanked by his parents and sisters, O'Brien said he gave the Irish his commitment on Wednesday night, June 18. "It was really a hard choice for me, but that last visit really pushed everything over the top for them," O'Brien said. "I like to win. That's what I'm going to do. I'm going to be fighting for a spot as soon as I get there." Earlier Friday, the Irish secured a commitment from four-star cornerback Khary Adams of Loyola Blakefield in Towson, Md. Rated No. 36 overall, Adams chose the Irish over offers from fellow finalists Michigan, Oregon and Penn State. Adams is taking his official visit this weekend. On Wednesday June 18, Notre Dame added a commitment from O'Brien's prep teammate, Wyndmoor, Pa., offensive tackle Grayson McKeough (6-foot-7, 275 pounds). McKeough is a three-star prospect with significant upside. With first-year general manager Mike Martin leading the recruiting operation, the Irish moved past Texas A&M on Friday and trail only USC in the latest national rankings for the 2026 cycle. Martin's predecessor, Chad Bowden, jumped to the Trojans in January. At 6-foot-3 and 182 pounds, Adams has reportedly flashed 4.4 speed in the 40-yard dash and has been clocked at 10.7 seconds in the 100 meters. Only O'Brien and edge rusher Rodney Dunham (No. 15 overall) of Myers Park High School in Charlotte, N.C., rank higher in the current Irish 2026 signing class. In late April, Notre Dame secured a commitment from four-star safety Ayden Pouncey (No. 139 overall) of Winter Park, Fla. Three-star cornerback Chaston Smith gave his commitment last Dec. 1, and the recent additions have only added to the pipeline of talent flowing into defensive pass-game coordinator Mike Mickens' vaunted secondary. Commitments won't become official until the early signing period opens Dec. 3-5.

North Peace Minor Baseball eyes expansion after quick recovery from shed fire

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The president of North Peace Minor Baseball is feeling 'fantastic' despite a fire which burned its equipment shed to the ground at the start of the season. Scott MacLean said there were no delays in the season beginning, even though the club's shed went up in flames in April , one day before opening the season. At the time, the Fort St. John RCMP said it had received a report about the fire but did not give any more information. Several donors stepped up to give the club a hand, including NorthRiver Midstream, Rig Ratz Safety, Jiffy Lube and United Rentals. 'We were able to replace all the equipment that was inside and erect a small storage shed,' said MacLean. 'It was really quick.' MacLean has been involved with the organization for the past 11 years; he became president in 2024 after the former head, Forrest Liddicoat, retired. Last season, he oversaw the development of a youth umpire program, which he says has 'been fantastic' and for his second year, he wanted to see more player enrollment in the league. '[Player growth has] been continual over the last 10 years,' said MacLean. 'We took a chance on moving people from a waiting list and actually had about 300-plus participants. 'In my second year I concentrated a little bit more on growth. Based on our waiting lists that we currently have, I would like to expand even more next year. We had 40 kids on the waiting list, my goal is to have nobody on the waiting list.' As the season draws to a close, North Peace Minor Baseball will host the Montney League Baseball playoff tournament for competitive teams at the U-13, U-15 and U-18 levels and recreational league playoffs in town will begin on Monday, June 23rd. Headquartered in Beaverlodge, the Montney League Baseball will feature teams from Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, Grande Prairie, High Prairie and Peace River starting on Friday, June 20th at Kin Park. 'We are fortunate Fort St. John has one of the nicer facilities at Kin Park to host large tournaments,' said MacLean. 'We do find that the other communities do like coming here.' More information about North Peace Minor Baseball is available on the club's Facebook page. Error! Sorry, there was an error processing your request. There was a problem with the recaptcha.
