Court allows Justin Baldoni to access Blake Lively and Taylor Swift's messages over film dispute

Express Tribune2 days ago

A US federal judge has ruled that actor and director Justin Baldoni is permitted to seek messages exchanged between Blake Lively and Taylor Swift that pertain to the production of the film It Ends With Us.
The decision comes as part of an ongoing legal dispute involving Lively's claims of harassment and retaliation. In court, Lively had identified Swift as someone who may have relevant knowledge about events that occurred during the film's development. US District Judge Lewis Liman determined that this connection justifies discovery of relevant communications between the two.
In response to the ruling, the court rejected Lively's request for a protective order to block the release of the messages. Judge Liman wrote that the messages are 'reasonably tailored to discover information that would prove or disprove Lively's harassment and retaliation claims.' However, the ruling limits the scope of the messages to those directly relating to the film or the ongoing lawsuit.
The case stems in part from Lively's objections to script changes, particularly a rooftop scene. According to Baldoni, he was invited to Lively's New York home in 2023 to discuss the changes and was surprised to find both Ryan Reynolds and Taylor Swift present. He alleges both encouraged him to accept Lively's version of the scene.
As discovery progresses, Lively's team has agreed to hand over all other requested materials, except for the Swift messages. That refusal led to the current dispute and court order.

Judge allows Blake Lively and Taylor Swift texts in Baldoni harassment case

A U.S. judge has ruled that private messages between Blake Lively and Taylor Swift can be included in the ongoing legal battle between Lively and actor-producer Justin Baldoni. According to court documents, U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman determined the communications may be relevant to Lively's claims of sexual harassment and retaliation on the set of It Ends With Us, a film produced by Baldoni's Wayfarer Studios. Lively's legal team previously attempted to block Baldoni from accessing the messages, arguing they were irrelevant. However, the judge stated that because Lively claimed Swift had knowledge of the working environment on set, the messages are 'reasonably tailored' to the case. Baldoni's lawyers had earlier tried to subpoena Swift directly, but dropped the request after her team objected, calling it an 'unwarranted fishing expedition.' Lively's team then sought to prevent access through the normal discovery process but was unsuccessful. Lively originally sued Baldoni in December 2024, accusing him of harassment and a smear campaign. Baldoni countersued for defamation, though that case was dismissed. A spokesperson for Lively criticized the decision, accusing Baldoni's team of exploiting Swift's fame for publicity. They also denied rumors that Lively's representatives threatened Swift regarding public support. Judge Liman rejected the publicity argument, saying it does not override the need for relevant discovery. Taylor Swift's representatives have not commented. The case is scheduled to go to trial in March 2026. This development adds a high-profile twist to an already contentious case involving some of Hollywood's most prominent names.

Bad Bunny tells fans not to expect Taylor Swift-style tour as he prepares for global stadium run

Bad Bunny is preparing to launch his next global stadium tour—but he's urging fans not to expect a Taylor Swift-style retrospective. In a new interview with Variety, the Puerto Rican star—born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio—emphasized that the tour will focus on his latest album, DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, rather than offering a career-spanning showcase. 'First of all, I'm not Taylor Swift,' he said. 'I want to clarify now so that they don't get so excited: It's not going to be organized that way. It's still very much a tour for DeBÍ, with some older songs sprinkled in.' Produced by Live Nation, the tour kicks off November 21 in the Dominican Republic. He will perform in Costa Rica and Mexico before continuing in January through Colombia and other Latin American countries. In late February, he will head to Brazil and Australia for the first time, followed by a debut in Japan. From May to July, he'll visit European cities including Madrid, Lisbon, Berlin, and Paris. Ahead of the global run, Bad Bunny will also headline a 30-date residency at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot this summer. The concerts are expected to draw approximately 250,000 fans to his home island. Even as he downplays expectations, demand tells a different story. According to figures shared with Billboard by Live Nation, the tour has already sold 2.6 million tickets and is on track to generate hundreds of millions in revenue. He will also become the first Spanish-language artist to perform stadium shows in seven of the countries on his itinerary. The record-breaking numbers confirm Bad Bunny's continued rise as a global force—on his own terms.
