A truck from the Burnaby Fire Department is seen on May 26, 2025.
A man who was rescued from a two-alarm fire in Burnaby, B.C., last month has since succumbed to his injuries.
The victim was critically injured when firefighters pulled him from a burning unit at a multi-family complex near Norfolk Street and Esmond Avenue on May 26.
The B.C. Coroners Service confirmed it is now investigating a death related to the incident. A spokesperson told CTV News she could not provide any further details while the investigation is ongoing.
A cat from the same unit was killed during the blaze.
Weeks after the incident, the cause remains unclear. The Burnaby Fire Department said it is still waiting on a final report from investigators.
Firefighters previously said they discovered the flames while responding to a smoke detector activation at the property.
One unit sustained heavy fire damage, and there was smoke and water damage to other homes at the property.
