Kuwait Enforces Health Standards: 5 Clinics Shut, 23 Under Scrutiny
KUWAIT CITY, May 27: Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi issued a decision Monday, referring 23 private healthcare facilities — including hospitals, medical centers, clinics and laboratories — to the Medical Liability Authority; in addition to the closure of five healthcare facilities, for violating rules and regulations on advertising and medical practice.
This decision was taken after the specialized inspection teams uncovered violations of Ministerial Resolution No. 87/ 2023, which regulates advertising in the private medical sector. It was found that some advertisements contradict the principles of the medical profession, promote practices that are not scientifically approved, or have a commercial nature that is inconsistent with professional ethics.
The violations also included transgressions in medical practices as per the provisions of Law No. 70/2020 regulating the practice of medicine and allied professions, the rights of patients, and health facilities; hence, the need to take legal action against the violating facilities.
The Ministry of Health confirmed that close field monitoring of health facilities in the private sector is ongoing, with the aim of raising performance efficiency and ensuring everyone's compliance with professional standards and approved health legislation. It emphasized that patient safety and the quality of health services are priorities without compromise, and that it is continuing to strictly implement the laws to protect public health and promote a safe, high-quality health environment

The meeting was attended by senior figures including Dr Adel Al-Zamil, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity, and Dr Munther Al-Hasawi, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Affairs, alongside Dr Nasser Al-Juwaisri, Director of Radiation Prevention. 'The delegation praised the advancements in the National Guard's chemical defense systems,' the statement noted, adding that further cooperation would strengthen Kuwait's environmental security under the current regional conditions. No abnormal radiation Kuwait's National Guard confirmed Sunday that the country's radiological and chemical situation remains 'normal and stable', despite rising regional tensions. In a joint statement to Al-Akhbar TV, Col Khaled Lami, Chief of Operations and Training at the center, said the Guard operates 29 land monitoring stations across border and urban areas, as well as 15 sea stations in Kuwaiti waters, all capable of detecting chemical and radiological threats in real time. 'The monitoring system has been working nonstop since its launch in 2015, and all measures are routine, not tied to any specific event or development,' Lami explained. Dr Al-Hasawi, who also attended Monday's meeting at the Ministry of Electricity, confirmed that the Ministry of Health operates a parallel nationwide monitoring system involving both fixed and mobile stations. Expats donate blood at drive organized by Indian Embassy in Kuwait

KUWAIT: Expatriate residents in Kuwait took part in a large-scale blood donation campaign organized by the Embassy of India and the Indian Doctors Forum on Saturday at the Cooperative Blood Transfusion Center in Adan, marking World Blood Donor Day. The event was held under the patronage of Minister of Health Dr Ahmad Al-Awadhi, who reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to strengthening Kuwait's national blood transfusion system through infrastructure development, staff training, and expanding the donor base. "We believe that donating blood is not merely a medical procedure, but a noble expression of belonging and compassion. It is also a sign of a society's maturity and solidarity in facing health challenges," Dr Al-Awadhi told reporters at the launch. He noted that June 14 is globally recognized as a day to honor voluntary and unpaid blood donors who contribute to saving lives and improving public health. The campaign was attended by Indian Ambassador Dr Adarsh Swaika, along with senior health officials including Dr Hanan Al-Awadhi, Acting Director of Blood Transfusion Services. Dr Hanan noted that donors from over 75 nationalities living in Kuwait contribute to campaigns year-round. She estimated that up to 200 donors would participate in this drive alone, reinforcing the strategic blood reserve needed for ongoing hospital care. "As long as there are patients in hospitals, the need for blood donations remains constant," she said. This is the second consecutive year that the Indian Embassy, in cooperation with the Indian Doctors Forum, has partnered with the Ministry of Health for such a campaign, she said. Ambassador Swaika said the campaign aimed to encourage a culture of voluntary blood donation. He noted that the Indian community has organized numerous similar initiatives in recent years, and expressed appreciation for the ministry's support in facilitating such efforts. In 2024, various Indian community organizations collectively held over 50 blood donation drives across Kuwait, reflecting a broader trend of community involvement in health-related initiatives.
